How did you come across the comments about Meghan on Quora? I've never encountered them, but then I haven't been looking

They were mentioned on another forum. I think the journalist's comments are interesting - she estimates that Meghan has spent $7m on PR since January. It's no coincidence that Meghan is constantly in the news - that's how PR works.

Firms like Sunshine Sachs spend a lot on 'grass roots' PR, with freelance editors tasked with jobs like cleaning up Wikipedia pages and producing volumes of fake supportive posts on Twitter, Facebook and even on forums like Mumsnet......

TheNavigator · 21/06/2020 15:59

I think the key word in your post is 'estimates' - in other words, she had no idea so plucked a big number out of the air.

MissEliza · 21/06/2020 16:01

$7m in six months for an individual person?! No way! How is that being funded?

ButteryPuffin · 21/06/2020 16:07

Don't believe that $7m thing, if for no other reason that I don't think they have that kind of money to spend right now.

Tippexy · 21/06/2020 16:16

@bluebell34567

i cant get over the picture of her(MM) other pregnancy. she looked like 6 months.
Where was this @bluebell34567?

I think Pippa's access to a man with that level of wealth may have been facilitated by her sister's fortuitous marriage. I don't think so

@TheNavigator

I think Pippa's access to a man with that level of wealth may have been facilitated by her sister's fortuitous marriage.
How wealthy is James Matthews?

His house cost £17 million
He gave James Middleton £100k to help out with his Boomf business

Pippa's ring is estimated to have cost £250k

His parents own estates in Lincolnshire and Scotland, the St Barths Eden Rock hotel and a '£3 million private jet' (so a large inheritance seems likely).

From Financial News London
Mayfair-based Eden Rock Management (his company that he founded with two other) reported a pre-tax profit of £1.2m for 2018, a fall of around 23% year on year
Mayfair-based Eden Rock reported pre-tax profits of £1.6m in 2017, dropping 46%

From the DM
In 2014, Eden Rock Management LLP – which remains its largest British company – made a profit of £1,581,257 but paid just £3,143 in tax at a rate of 0.2 per cent. The previous year it paid £11,684 tax on £1,539,259 of profit, or 0.75 per cent.Such clever accounting is not illegal.

Accounts show the highest earning member of the Eden Rock partnership – likely to be Mr Matthews – took home a £559,310 slice of the profits last year.

Also from the DM www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4415532/Pippa-s-laws-told-t-stay-Middletons.html
He has been forced to slash his own earnings by a wince-making sum of almost £370,000 after profits fell at his hedge fund firm. It left him with just under £200,000 in his annual pay packet.
the hedge fund he launched in 2001 lost £80,000 in 2015 when a Cayman Islands bank where it had deposited money went into liquidation after being accused by the U.S. authorities of being involved in a share scam.

Roussette · 21/06/2020 17:28

Oh my, just realised James Matthews brother is Spencer Matthews, some sort of reality star, Made in Chelsea?

mrscampbellblackagain · 21/06/2020 18:24

Oh yes Roussette!

Imagine the family gatherings ;)

WhatWouldDominicDo · 21/06/2020 18:58

Pippa probably has more disposable wealth than Kate does

calmcoolandcollected · 21/06/2020 19:37

@Samcro the idea of MM going into politics is ludicrous.

I agree. She is far too self serving to be an effective politician.

thisenglishlife · 21/06/2020 19:41

I think Spencer is a very different man these days - marriage, child, another baby on the way, he gave up alcohol, started a low alcohol brand (less than 2%), started exercising in a more healthy way and has a family based show instead.

AnnieCartwright · 21/06/2020 19:43

@Sittingontheveranda

Finding Freebies. It tickled me more than it should have.

You could treat it as an exercise to reflect what has gone so wrong in your life that you derive pleasure from laughing at others being slagged off. It might be very interesting.

No. I'm fine as I am thank you.

Maybe you could try it?

Samcro · 21/06/2020 20:05

I meant as you well lnow that ist no doubt a made up story.

You don't know that as a fact. It is speculation on your part.

www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a32884318/prince-harry-meghan-markle-black-lives-matter-movement/

"But Town & Country understands that over the past few weeks the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have turned their focus toward Black Lives Matter, and plan to do more than just Meghan's recent speech.
The couple have held meeting with leaders involved in the movement at every level: local, national, and international, and equity and justice will continue to be a priority for them in the weeks and months ahead as they prepare to officially launch their new foundation, Archewell. "

Samcro · 21/06/2020 20:36

Lol more than likely true.

C and C included a public prayer of contrition in their wedding service.

Isn't that standard practice in any second wedding/blessing in a chiurch, after a divorce?

No, it isn't. AFAIU, a divorced person or persons can marry in a church at the discretion of the vicar of that church.
When I married Mr LaMar (church wedding ceremony, not a blessing after a civil service), our vicar certainly didn't include any prayers of contrition.
He did have a chat with us and I know he wouldn't have been happy to marry us in church if one of us had been the cause of the breakup of the other's marriage.
Maybe that's why C&C had a prayer of contrition at their wedding?

Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood and Arnie (not going to attempt his surname Smile) did indeed go into politics.
Reminded me of Shirley Temple's diplomatic roles.

Roussette

I think you're right on a lot of that MoreHippo and we have to remember Camilla was 57 when she married Charles. Very different to Meghan at 36.
Of course, Camilla at that age would be all for the quiet life, just supporting Charles, seeing her family and grandchildren, and supporting her favourite charities.

I'm not 57 yet, but am in my 50s.
I wouldn't say no to a slightly more exciting life than supporting Mr LaMar, seeing the family and doing some charity work.
Not that those aren't all pleasant and good things.
(I thought we were similar in age, you and me? Vaguely remember from a conversation about royal wedding dresses.
Apologies if I've I've got that mixed up.)

HarryDaylight · 21/06/2020 20:42

It's not a foundation. Why would anything else be true if the journalist can't even get that basic fact correct?

parrots · 21/06/2020 20:42

Are you honestly saying that you can tell, through their public appearances and press coverage, that Kate married for love and Meghan married for social advancement? You do know the red tops lie

Please read my post again. I said that my impressions were based on Meghan's own comments in the engagement interview and during the 'fab four' event with Will and Kate. Not on the 'red tops', which I never read anyway!

Roussette · 21/06/2020 20:42

miri1985

I think that's great to read. How much better to be trying to make a difference with their contribution towards Black Lives Matter,. I don't think anyone should be criticised for that, not even M&H

parrots · 21/06/2020 20:43

To add, this was my exact comment:

Meghan's comments in her engagement interview and also during that one and only, ill-fated 'fab four' event suggested that she saw her marriage to Harry as presenting an opportunity to massively increase her profile. This may be unfair, but that was the impression I got from the beginning, and nothing that has happened since has served to weaken that impression and it's off-putting

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/06/2020 20:44

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have turned their focus toward Black Lives Matter ... The couple have held meeting with leaders involved in the movement at every level: local, national, and international

I'm just impressed they've managed to find out who the leaders at every level are; after all nobody else seems to have managed it

Roussette · 21/06/2020 20:46

LaMarschallin

We may well be a similar age. I was just comparing the 21 years difference between MM and Camilla on marriage. Smile
