Harry has ditched his longstanding legal team. That's quite significant in terms of breaking away from his royal life. They aren't coming back.

Did Charlene not try to do a runner the night before her wedding ?

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 20/06/2020 12:01

I think it signals that they do not intend working under the umbrella of the royal establishment. I regard this very good news. Hopefully they are seeing a way to stay in the US and build an independent life there. The next stage is to separate their finances so that they are no longer funded by Prince Charles.

Viviennemary · 20/06/2020 12:12

I think they are a long long way from being financially independent. Even if they use the money they already have it won't last long once security is taken into account. It will be interesting to see when they will next appear at a royal event or family gathering.

yes , i think she was caught at the airport trying to board a flight and brought back to Albert

all very strange -although she seems ok now - maybe they have a mutual understanding to leave each other be

Surely only giving guest Afternoon Tea after a wedding is very unusual for a high society wedding?

The spinning it out to a whole day with sit down meal and dancing is relatively recent I believe. Champagne, canapés and speeches all done and dusted in a couple of hours used to be the form.

One hopes there was champagne on offer along with the tea...if not I'd definitely have been one of the glums.

There won't be one where their presence would reasonably be expected now for ages. We've had the Queen's birthday and Philip's. Next thing really will be Beatrice's wedding, so at least 2021 and there's no new date for that yet to my knowledge. Christmas is the absolute soonest possibility if they were going to alternate one Christmas in the UK and one in the US or elsewhere, and even that now seems unlikely.

Oldbutstillgotit · 20/06/2020 12:56

Prince Philip will be 100 next year so it would be disappointing if they don’t return for that .

TryAnotherNickname · 20/06/2020 13:05

The very smartest wedding (in terms of old aristo) I’ve been to was afternoon tea only - it felt like a real let down after trekking to the country pile. All stand up for the tea and speeches (give me glitzy new money dinner and dancing at the Dorchester any time!)

How do you undo a bookmark ? I accidentally bookmarked a post on here and I can’t get rid of it.

Have they though? The timing is very convenient and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the other way round. I said on the previous thread that well respected legal companies wouldn’t work with them if they continued in the way they have been.

Like TryAnotherNickname I thought the upper class tradition was for light catering only after a wedding ceremony, before the bride donned her "going away" outfit and the happy couple set off on their honeymoon. I'm sure I've read in one of Deborah Devonshire's book her surprise at the first time she went to a wedding that involved a three course meal.

As for them moving from Harbottle & Lewis, people change lawyers all the time, and generally there's nothing sinister in it. It can sometimes be simply that you don't develop a good relationship because you don't gel. More unusual is for the lawyer to continue to act for their client - either because their fees are unpaid or their client has compromised the lawyer's ethics in some way. There is no suggestion that this has happened here though, so maybe Harry and Meghan met another lawyer they liked better, or fancied dealing with someone younger/more experienced/not so closely connected with Dad/with plusher offices - it could be anything.

Sittingontheveranda · 20/06/2020 13:28

@Ballet1992 Great post.
Add to that the non stop media frenzy created by her father. I imagine she thought it would die down and fizzle out but instead people wanted to believe it and the public started baying for her blood. I remember clicking out of some articles as the comments underneath literally turned my stomach.

They are undoubtedly impulsive. If they settle and live a quieter lifestyle, they have enough money to live extremely comfortably for the rest of their lives. Archie will always be one of the Charles’s four grandchildren and won’t be left wanting for anything.

callmeadoctor · 20/06/2020 13:30

Musing at what Meghan would have thought of Anglesey, Ive been there many times, exciting it certainly isn't .................

Kate was frequently pictured in Bucks and London during the Anglesey years, can't have been much fun for her in Wales with William often gone.

They moved to Frogmore apparently because they didn't want to be near W&K, which is fine in theory Frogmore Cottage was a wedding gift, they were always going to live there (planning per. supports that). Apartment 1 at Kensington would have cost more to renovate.

FannyCann · 20/06/2020 13:47

What no champagne TryAnotherNickname ? Just tea?Confused

I'd be retrieving my wedding present and taking it back for a refund!

These solicitors will have dealt on Harry’s behalf from his birth. They stopped working together 72 hours after the fiasco with Archewell. As discussed before, it’s so unlikely as to be unbelievable that a reputable solicitors would have made much mistakes.

thisenglishlife · 20/06/2020 14:00

Archewell trademark had some 'irregularities', but has not been refused. The latest Cambridge US trademark has been refused.

Errr - what about funerals? I'm the very last to wish anyone gone, but it'll be surprising if one doesn't happen before very long and I'd have thought Harry's presence would more or less be expected

Whether Meghan would wish to accompany him is of course another matter entirely

lifestooshort123 · 20/06/2020 14:17

Harry attending a funeral for a close family member on his own would be unthinkable. It would be shocking if his wife didn't accompany and support him and would prove all the haters right. She is not that sort of person.

Right now though, coronavirus has changed all the etiquette rules regarding funerals. I think it would depend who it was and when. The Palace’s PR should be sensitive to the fact many families are saying goodbye to loved ones via video link because the numbers allowed to be at funerals in person is so restricted.

Unless, knowing how much the press focuses on her, unwarranted attention that is...and she does not want that, in the event of a funeral of one of Harry's GPs. If I were her... in those circumstances... it would be a kind thing to other members of the RF, perhaps not to attend.

Because if the press did focus on her, and she really didn't want that, it would still end up being her fault...
