Ffs it was years ago. Is that all people can do now drag up stuff like that.

Not even two years ago. On a thread specifically about Harry and Meghan, who have themselves only been married for a few weeks over two years, it’s hardly dragging things up.
Sittingontheveranda · 29/06/2020 20:56

Two years is a very long time unless you have absolutely nothing to do in your life. Surely the time spent dissecting whether MM should have opened a coat button or not could be better studying and learning something new and actually interesting?

Nanasueathome · 29/06/2020 21:08

The reason the coat issue was raised is because there’s a new book out and there’s an article in the DM about it today

Personally I've done lots of things in that time, but fortunately my mind is able to think about other things for the odd moment too - and if that involves the lifestyle and decisions of minor royals, so be it.

The problem with your argument is that I have and have had plenty to do with my life yet have still been able to discuss a coat. 🤷🏻‍♀️
calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 21:22

And please don’t bring up her ‘personal fortune’ of $5m - she was earning $400k a year on suits, paying tax in two countries and living in a rented apartment. I’d be surprised if she had $500k in savings at the time she met Harry.

I believe MM was making US$36,000 per episode. She wouldn't pay tax in two countries. Canada charges a flat 23% tax on earnings in Canada, and she would receive a full tax credit for that against US taxes paid, which would have been higher.

Seriously do not believe everything you read.

What, specifically, are you referring to?

Sittingontheveranda · 29/06/2020 21:31

plenty to do with my life yet have still been able to discuss a coat.

Not a coat. Somebody else buttoning or unbuttoning a coat TWO YEARS AGO. Do you realise how ridiculous and frankly weird this sounds to most other people?

calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 21:35

About as ridiculous and frankly weird as someone else admonishing that person for mentioning it?

ButteryPuffin · 29/06/2020 21:43

I thought MN had asked that posters didn't either tell other posters not to post, or discourage them by other means?

Sittingontheveranda · 29/06/2020 21:47

If someone insists on telling the same story of a relationship breakdown that happened years ago, or tell the same story about an incident t that happened years ago, to anyone they meet, years after the event - is it more beneficial to listen and pretend it’s normal? Or is it more beneficial to suggest it isn’t healthy? By not saying anything is it really kinder to feed this obsession? It really isn’t.

thisenglishlife · 29/06/2020 21:49

Charles and William have spoken about environmental issues and various practices and have long used private jets and helicopters. I think that Prince Andrew uses them the most. William has used the Duke of Westminster's (current and former) private jet for many years. Why single Harry out as a hypocrite and get so angry by him only?

William has launched an environmental prize, he will be presenting the awards in a new country every year for nine years. Prince William said the world faces a "stark choice" to continue "irreparably" damaging the planet or "lead, innovate and problem-solve".

A September 2018 train trip by the Prince of Wales from Aberdeen to Euston cost £22,086.

Prince Charles faced claims of hypocrisy in 1991 after making a speech on "monstrous" motorcars only to have his favourite Bentley driven 800 miles to then-Czechoslovakia ahead of a visit.

In 2015, Charles made a 80-mile journey by helicopter just days after urging people to save energy by turning off their lights.

They're not average Joes though. Despite pretending that they are, when it suits them.

calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 21:51

LOL. Right. Because it's perfectly normal to admonish strangers you likely will never meet IRL out of "concern" for their mental health. Plus, is it always the same poster? I couldn't tell you, as I don't follow this closely enough. Is it kind to obsessively stalk particular posters?

If you are watching who is posting particular stories, I think you have an unhealthy obsession with this subject and should stop following these threads.

calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 21:52

^that was for @SittingontheVeranda

calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 21:53

@thisenglishlife So what's your point? That the hypocrisy of other royals somehow cancels out Harry's hypocrisy?

Sittingontheveranda · 29/06/2020 22:20

is it always the same poster Absolutely not. It applies to a few posters on these threads. It is very odd behaviour for adults to constantly rehash events from years ago.

I was hoping they'd announce another pregnancy or something vaguely new and interesting though I'm more interested in the names they choose than the babies themselves.

Kate has reverted to her straight hairstyle. It looks so much better and more natural than the big bouncy blowdry she sported for too long. As she has also started wearing midi dresses, she looks very like Letizia now.

It is the subject of a high profile book that has just been released and the wedding coat incident was reported in a news article today? How on earth is discussing topical news odd?

SunbathingDragon · 29/06/2020 22:45

I didn’t mention whether it was buttoned or unbuttoned; merely that she wore it. As I’ve also pointed out, it wasn’t as long ago as two years.

You sound very overinvested in telling me what is and is not appropriate in your opinion for me to discuss regarding a topic that has been in a national paper today.

calmcoolandcollected · 29/06/2020 23:03

I asked my above post be deleted, as I hit "post" too soon.

@Sittingontheveranda, IMHO, it's equally odd to post on what others post about.

A former friend and her son wore white at my wedding. I’m still pissed off about it 15 years later as they are there, in the wedding photos. I would have gone batshit crazy if she had announced her pregnancy as well.

BalloonSlayer · 30/06/2020 08:11

Did anyone watch the "Diana in her own words" programme the other night? I thought that apart from her infamous interview she rarely spoke but I was pleasantly surprised at some of her speeches.

At one point I eyerolled at her saying that she was a "humanitarian," as like a pp I think that's something people say about you, you shouldn't call yourself that. But it turned out at that point she had already been awarded "Humanitarian of the year," so I guess she had the right to!

I think she said that as she was being attacked for getting involved in 'political issues' by the Govt., re. the landmines campaign, so she used the term to defend herself when journalists (Jennie Bond!) questioned her.

So sad to think that she died at the age Kate and Meghan are now. She was far from perfect, but she had a huge impact on some really important issues.
