She was far from perfect, but she had a huge impact on some really important issues. Agreed.

She was actually younger than both of them, having died less than two months after her 36th birthday.

The new book Royals at War is a bit of a hatchet job judging by the bits I have read online .

the last sentence in that post @Myimaginarycathadfleas is awful. hope I read it wrong.

I’m reading it as Harry has spent the last 20+ years affected by the death of his mother, as lots of his comments on mental health confirms. You?
Myimaginarycathadfleas · 30/06/2020 13:59

I'm surprised my post was deleted, I didn't think I said anything controversial, or indeed unsympathetic. Hey ho.

I think some people intentionally try to find alternative meanings and codes in messages in order to be self rigorously indignant and get them removed. Then they use deleted posts to demonstrate that their self imposed moderation (known as trolling in other places) is the well needed.
Myimaginarycathadfleas · 30/06/2020 14:09

For the avoidance of doubt, without repeating anything that people have taken exception to (although I can't fathom why). my point was that H has himself talked about the impact of his loss and there are many ways other than the obvious ones where the presence of his late mother might have spared him further pain.

catinb0oots · 30/06/2020 14:48

Where did the book thread go? Was it deleted?

Samcro · 30/06/2020 14:57

Myimaginarycathadfleas how odd your post was deleted. i didn't think I agreed with it(thats why I asked the question) but did not report it.

ajandjjmum · 30/06/2020 15:25

Gone!

I can only assume because it repeated something said in the final pages of the book, about information given to LCC, regarding the information between MM and her Dad. She was very clear that the information had been offered to her without verification.

I suggest anyone wanting further information reads the book, as it is certainly not a matter for gossip (imo) even on MN!

SunbathingDragon · 30/06/2020 15:44

The book thread was deleted presumably because someone posted at the end some comments about Lady Colin Campbell. I reported that post and that seemed to result in MN removing the entire thread.

ajandjjmum · 30/06/2020 15:48

Oh right - I assumed that the person providing the overview of the book had incorporated a potentially dodgy detail. Sorry!

Viviennemary · 30/06/2020 16:03

It's a sad day when a newly published very popular book can't be discussed on a book topic.

Justanotherpenguin · 30/06/2020 16:14

Sancro I realise it's unwise to discuss an deleted post, but you did say that the last sentence sounded "awful", so I can only imagine you read something into it that I didn't say or imply. I thought my point was a sympathetic one.

thats why I asked the question. as you can see from my post. I remember your post saw it in a different way and may well have been right. but now we will never know.
calmcoolandcollected · 30/06/2020 16:49

No, you weren’t right Samcro. You read one sentence, rather than the post in context. It was about Harry’s mental state, not his choice of wife.

as you didn't write it how would you know?
Myimaginarycathadfleas · 30/06/2020 17:07

Thank you, calmcoolandcollected. It was about the consequences for a child of the loss of a parent who really understands how they tick, and could have been a source of guidance at many important stages of that child's life growing up. I thought that was very clear.

I'm fine with someone not agreeing with that observation (though I struggle to see why they wouldn't ) but why they would choose to put an entirely different interpretation on it baffles me. Perhaps they have not experienced loss themselves.

calmcoolandcollected · 30/06/2020 17:10

@Samcro because I am not brain dead. Please note, I am in no way suggesting you are.

calmcoolandcollected · 30/06/2020 17:12

That was how I understood your post,@Myimaginarycathadfleas.

I think sometimes the deletion of posts here is reflexive. But, it’s a tough job.

HarryDaylight · 30/06/2020 17:14

You were perfectly clear, Myimaginarycathadfleas. I agree that if Princess Diana hadn't died so tragically young, that she would have guided Harry and been a great source of emotional strength to him.

I am struggling to understand why anyone saw something awful in it, and why it was deleted.

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 30/06/2020 17:53

Thank you HarryDaylight. I was clear in what I wanted to say and am relieved that it came across as I intended.

Ilovellamasandpenguins · 30/06/2020 18:33

I am a lurker on these threads and I saw your now deleted post fleas and for the life of me couldn’t see anything wrong with it and I have no idea why it was deleted.
