Lady Colin Campbell's book allegedly states that at the garden party, Meghan Markle asked Harry if they could leave after 15 minutes of working the grounds, because she found it "boring".

I can see royal duties being dull, particularly for someone who had a career she enjoyed before taking on those duties. She lost all control over what she did, and when. That may be what she found soul crushing.

FruitPastillesaregood · 19/06/2020 23:36

How do you know what’s in the book calm?

calmcoolandcollected · 19/06/2020 23:40

Parts were released. Not the whole book, just pages.

StartupRepair · 19/06/2020 23:45

Agree that there has been a lot of speculation published about h and M. I try to base my response to them on their actual words and actions, like the engagement interview which was twee and manipulative and their leaving manifesto which was arrogant, entitled and disrespectful to HMQ.

FruitPastillesaregood · 19/06/2020 23:59

If that’s true about the Garden Party, it’s just so RUDE. Imagine what Charles felt! It was his birthday celebration in part.

Who is the man she’s with?

Sittingontheveranda · 20/06/2020 00:08

I can only assume the above is true because LCC's 'book' is not one I'd pick up in a million years. So MM wanted to leave early. Thats a very far cry from the previous claims that she stuck her tongue out, was flirting with Charles, was trying to make Camilla jealous.
Surely this, if true, is further evidence of just how crazy the constant wild accusations about MM are?

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 20/06/2020 00:08

I think I've seen an unphotoshopped version of that pic. It's nonsense.

ARoseInHarlem · 20/06/2020 00:24

IF it’s true that MM said working the crowd was ‘boring’ and wanted to leave (don’t blame her, it probably was, especially just a few days after her wedding - I remember thinking “gawd, what a honeymoon!”) and that got them kicked out, I’d put the blame 50% at Harry’s door for not preparing her for the life, and 50% at hers for not having figured it out herself before she married him and for being immature enough to say the words out loud.

That is, IF it’s true.

calmcoolandcollected · 20/06/2020 00:26

There is a photo of Meghan Markle sticking her tongue out at the garden party, so it did occur. What is unclear is the context. I am not criticizing the action, just noting it did occur.

I don't think one can conclude that just because she found the garden party boring, there was an instant leap to wanting to leave the BRF. I think though, that if she continued to find public duties stultifying, that would explain why she described life in the royal family fishbowl as soul crushing (paraphrasing as I don't recall the exact wording).

Walkingtheplank · 20/06/2020 00:28

The man in the photo is Pixie Lott's boyfriend. Cant remembers his name but should be possible to find original photo.

calmcoolandcollected · 20/06/2020 00:30

and that got them kicked out

The boring comment was mentioned, and that Meghan Markle was discussing politics. I assume Brexit, but that is speculation on my part.

I just googled, and it doesn't look like the the photo was photoshopped. It's just not the best dress style for her.

Sittingontheveranda · 20/06/2020 00:57

and that got them kicked out

But did it? Or perhaps Meghan asked to leave, Harry called his driver and then had a quick word with Charles to say they were leaving.

calmcoolandcollected · 20/06/2020 01:03

Why they were asked to leave is speculation. But Charles had words with Harry, Harry nodded but said little, and they left immediately thereafter. I believe their leaving was instigated by Charles, not Harry.

Sittingontheveranda · 20/06/2020 01:12

Actually I think at these events, it is probably far more likely that if they want to convey a message to one another, they get one of their aides to speak to the other's aides and the actual goodbye would be little more than a formality. I certainly don't think that Charles would summon Harry to his side and say in annoyance that you and your wife must leave immediately, your car is waiting. Charles would be very conscious of how he appears in public. He has spent a long time repairing his image.

True. More likely for us plebs.

I’m just imagining the tabloid headlines, if this claim is true. She’s not going to come across well is she? Meghan Leaves Charles’s “Boring” 70th Birthday Bash Early. But I think she’ll have the broadsheets largely on side, especially the Guardian and Independent who will take the feminist/modernist slant: Meghan Stultified By BP Garden Party, Leaves for Modern World.

calmcoolandcollected · 20/06/2020 03:55

@TheNavigator You failed to answer my question.

Incidentally, this -

you had already started to put a wee negative spin on it when you posted the dubious info.

is inaccurate. I did not post the link about Meghan Markle seeking a political career. I responded to the link. If you're going to attack me, at least do so for what I actually post, rather than something from your imagination.
