I continue to be furious about the extravagant damn wedding

Are you furious about Andrew's wedding?

Divorced
No longer doing royal duties

Wolf who knows, you may well be right but we'll have to see won't we?
Smile

MissEliza · 08/06/2020 17:49

I think if they came back, the public would accept them. The British public are very forgiving of the royals and it doesn't take much. However, from what I can tell of their personalities, I don't think they'd be able to swallow their pride.

Roussette · 08/06/2020 17:51

Interesting.

I think Harry could come back. I can't imagine MM would be accepted going by what some people think of her. I would, however, like to think so.

Roussette · 08/06/2020 17:52

I meant
I would like to think she could.

continue to be furious about the extravagant damn wedding

Andrew was married eons ago

How is this relevant.

H&M 2 years.and more importantly about 15 months after being married before they spoke negatively to a personal friend in the press whilst on a tour which they requested to do and the taxpayer paid for.

Roussette · 08/06/2020 18:05

How is this relevant

How is it not? An extravagent wedding for a member of the RF who is divorced after that wedding, and has divested himself of all royal duties

1forsorrow · 08/06/2020 18:09

Prince Andrew did royal duties until he was 60 so no the same.

Froq · 08/06/2020 18:09

How is it not?

Because it’s a post about PA on a thread about H&M.

Roussette · 08/06/2020 18:10

Is that not allowed?

Froq · 08/06/2020 18:11

It’s allowed. But you asked how it was irrelevant. I answered.

Roussette · 08/06/2020 18:14

I saw

7Worfs · 08/06/2020 18:36

Andrew was HMQ son, not grandson; second in line to the throne at the time. Also veteran of the Falklands I think?
He may be a terrible person but at the time he was damned more important than Harry.

DulciUke · 08/06/2020 18:37

For those who have read both, is Lady Campbell the equivalent of Kitty Kelly? That is, lots of gossip, but little to back it up? I've read that she claimed that the Queen Mother was really the illegitimate daughter of the cook, or some such nonsense? Just trying to get a feel for whether I should shell out some $$ for the book. I can't read the Omid Scobie one--I greatly fear that it will be written in the same gobbledygook way as the official blurb.

HarryDaylight · 08/06/2020 18:42

Simples. Granny or Daddy keeps them. I need to know none of my hard earned tax is funding them.

^^ THIS

7Worfs · 08/06/2020 18:42

Lady CC is a third rate aristo really, but her previous books contained accurate gossip (confirmed years later).

Wolfgirrl · 08/06/2020 18:44

The British public are very forgiving of the royals

I disagree. Some of them might be, but the media are not, and they have the main away of public opinion. Look at prince andrew, his stepping down was an unprecedented move made due to the pressure of public disapproval.

If they returned the press would have an absolute field day, they would continue to be pariahs among the other royals and they wont have friends to turn to as allegedly they lost them all.

Wolfgirrl · 08/06/2020 18:44

*main sway

This is the currently active Prince Andrew thread for those who wish to discuss him:

Viviennemary · 08/06/2020 18:45

Whether or not they'll come back is anybody's guess. Me I'm not sure. In a year or two quite possibly. The Queen is getting older and its doubtful she will be doing any more tours abroad and then Charles and Camilla and Princess Anne aren't getting any younger. And Prince Andrew cough has taken early retirement. Edward and Sophie are good workers. There was talk of Beatrice and Eugenie taking on royal duties.

MissEliza · 08/06/2020 18:54

Did they request to do that tour?

Lockupyourbiscuits · 08/06/2020 18:57

I think if they come back they will be welcome - there is room for them in the slimmed down monachy
But maybe they need to be less celebrity more royal and maybe they don’t both want the same things
They need to do something that works for both of them

Wolfgirrl · 08/06/2020 19:10

@lockupyourbiscuits

What about what works for us? The taxpayer? We dont owe them a living despite what many people on here seem to think

Lockupyourbiscuits · 08/06/2020 19:17

We can’t force them to be working royals so they do have a choice
The funding should be attached to the role

Wolfgirrl · 08/06/2020 19:21

@lockupyourbiscuits

Yes but you're implying they should get to tailor the role to their own wants.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 08/06/2020 19:29

Sorry I didn’t mean tailor the role - it comes with a job description
I meant chose what you both want and commit to it
I can understand if someone felt trapped by a job for life in the public eye even if there was tremendous wealth and privilege attached
