I loved how Meghan looked at, umm was it the Invictus games before they were engaged. Ripped jeans, white shirt - just very laidback and stylish.

Maybe once there is a new order ahem, then the Royal dress code will be relaxed somewhat.

ButteryPuffin · 16/06/2020 19:39

I liked Meghan's environmentally friendly fashion items. Made sense for her intended profile. There was a pair of really nice, funky black flat shoes made from I think old tyres that she wore in Australia that I remember looking up to see if I could afford them.
Some of the separates have also been nice. I think she may suit separates better than dresses.

2littleguineas · 16/06/2020 19:48

Meghan and Kate look good in anything they wear. I think Kate has found style she likes that's in fitting with her role. Meghan has more leeway and seems to wear different styles and do that quiet well too.

Oldbutstillgotit · 16/06/2020 19:49

@ MoreHippoThanPenguin I am also drinking Pimms as I was watching an old Queens tennis match earlier ( Murray v Blake) . Cheers .

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 16/06/2020 19:52

Samcro, I agree re Kate’s dress. She wore two longer to Ascot recently, but they were quite straight and (I believe) slimming which she doesn’t need. I love the shorter dresses on her, but would also love a dress with a bit more structure as she could carry it off.

I do love MM’s casual look, the invictus look was great, as was the environmentally friendly Smile.

I just thought the Ascot one I linked to shoved another, beautiful style, more unusual for her.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 16/06/2020 19:53

Cheers @Oldbutstillgotit Smile. Pimm’s is so good isn’t it?

Flicking through those pictures of Meghan, you forget what a glow she has - the sort of natural glamour that Diana did so well.

bluebell34567 · 17/06/2020 11:06

Diana had the natural glow but i dont know about MM.

bluebell34567 · 17/06/2020 11:06

she had makeup artists flown from NY.

EthelMayFergus · 17/06/2020 11:25

Yes, I would think the make up artist must be pretty good if he was flown over from America just for the last few engagements.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 17/06/2020 11:37

Personally I think Meghan looked better before the wedding. She has a nice California girl style and perhaps one of the reasons she looked so uncomfortable in her duchess dressing. I remember being excited to see what she was going to wear and being completely underwhelmed despite the hefty price tags. I think she also on occasion wore the wrong outfit to the wrong event. Primarily thinking about that amazing Oscar de la Renta dress she wore when most others were in business wear. I also think that she didn’t really dress for her body shape and her clothes weren’t tailored for her which meant that on occasion they didn’t do her justice.

ajandjjmum · 17/06/2020 11:44

Also the beautiful green 'wedding' outfit to the formal church service. She looked stunning when she returned to the UK in March - but to me they were the planned looks of an actress on a red carpet.

The photograph of her and Harry under the brolly was fantastic.

You can hardly blame her for wanting to look her best when returning to the snakepit of UK press coverage. Which remember will happily make up nasty stories about her if it can't find anything vile enough to report. And it works - some posters can't even bring themselves to admit that she glows from within like Diana, there have to be snarky references to make up artists. It is called charisma and it can't be brought in a bottle or we'd all have it.

I don’t think you can blame anyone from wanting to look their best under media scrutiny. Given the chance, I know I would. 🤷🏻‍♀️
derxa · 17/06/2020 12:24

some posters can't even bring themselves to admit that she glows from within like Diana I loved the way Diana looked. It wasn't just her face but her whole body. So athletic and statuesque. There isn't any point in comparing the two and it will just end in nastiness.

Halo84 · 17/06/2020 12:36

Likely because some posters don’t see an internal glow. Personally, I didn’t think Diana glowed, and I don’t think Meghan Markle glows either.

This may take you by surprise, but not everyone does, or has to, see things the way you do.

Halo84 · 17/06/2020 12:37

Oh, and if Meghan Markle had “charisma”, there wouldn’t be so much criticism of her.

Viviennemary · 17/06/2020 12:38

I really liked Diana. I wouldn't say she had an internal glow though. Whatever that might be.

Sousone · 17/06/2020 12:46

Grin what.

TheNavigator · 17/06/2020 12:48

You think? I actually think her beauty and charisma and being female and being mixed race and being married to a prince are all part of the recipe for the poisonouse hatred she inspires in some.
TheNavigator · 17/06/2020 12:50

If you look at pictures of her, her face does draw your eye. It is the same with some models. I guess it is being photogenic - you light up the room more than the faces of those around you. I see it in Meghan and Diana.
ajandjjmum · 17/06/2020 13:07

Might yours TheNavigator - doesn't mine. Doesn't mean either of us is right and the other wrong, just different perceptions. Like on the S & B threads - some outfits I think are gorgeous, others hate.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 17/06/2020 13:32

Is it perhaps the mysterious X factor. Some people have it. Others don’t. In my opinion Diana had “it” but neither Kate or Meghan does even though they are beautiful women and arguably more aesthetically perfect than Diana.

SunbathingDragon · 17/06/2020 13:51

Unpopular thing to say but I am not a fan of Diana’s. However, there is no denying she was very photogenic, had a great sense of clothing (for the fashion at the time), and did a huge amount of good for many of the charities that she supported.

I don’t think any of the Royal Family glow or have charisma, with the exception of a few of the children but then again children tend to be quite charismatic by nature.
