If they decide to stay in LA ( or wherever ) I think the Sussex titles need to be removed . H will always be a Prince however the Dukedom was a gift from HM and presumably she never imagined this situation.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/06/2020 14:58

Isn’t there a history of cover ups amongst the Royal staff as well though? I can’t remember the details but one of the staff accused another of male rape I think, amongst other things

I think that might have been George Smith? The Michael Peat report contained criticisms of how that was handled, and Smith himself claimed that fear of further revelations about his case could have been why Paul Burrell's court case was shut down, but anyway it's said that Charles wanted him out so naturally he had to go

@MoreHippoThanPenguin

I just wanted to post about the coat flicking by Meghan (I think this was a massive discussion a while back). Was this deliberate or not? I always scrolled by those posts as I thought they were uninteresting.

However for some weird reason, I saw some videos and pictures of this a few days ago.

I think it was totally deliberate. A deliberate action of a woman, heavily pregnant in a new country. Probably conscious of her big bump, hot, uncomfortable and with aching feet. Who knows that every awful paparazzi in the country will try to get an unflattering picture and who tries her best to look good in the picture. As she was probably told to do by the Royal Family. And then the papers made fun of her.

I think it was totally deliberate, MoreHippoThanPenguin (having seen a few videos, it doesn't look like an unconscious action, and it's noteworthy that she didn't do it while not pregnant). However, I also don't think it's any kind of a deal. Members of the royal family are often in a completely artificial environment where their every move is being captured by (often banks of) photographers, generally when moving from a form of transport to the entrance of a venue, while greeting their hosts. They all of them adopt a performative response - I mean, of course they do! They are normal people who will be just as self-conscious as you or I in that kind of situation. Some (Kate) go for the "plaster on a big smile and and walk briskly towards the person greeting me, while extending my hand". Others (Prince Charles, his sons) will often imply their own habitual gesture, like twisting their cufflinks, or checking their jacket button, while walking to the greeting. Meghan, probably more aware of positioning herself for photos, given her background, appeared to want to make sure that the curve of her bump was visible in the photos of her. And....so what? She's the one having gazillion of photos taken of her, it's definitely her choice as to how she wants to look in them.
ButteryPuffin · 14/06/2020 16:06

I don't know anything about Charles and the bishop but he was friends with Savile, wasn't he? Although he's not alone in that incredibly bad judgement. Thatcher and others also seemed to be taken in.

Do we really think the Sussexes are buying a house in Malibu? What with? I don't see their house-sitting status changing any time soon because I don't see how it could.

Postponing a launch for Archwell till next year is a sensible decision. It's a terrible time to start trying to fundraise under a new brand name that will need to gather momentum. And they seem IMO still not to know what they really want it to do and to be about. However, that raises other questions of what they're going to do with themselves in the meantime. They could do themselves a big favour by announcing that they are going to work on the ground for some specific charity for a while.

caperberries · 14/06/2020 16:19

H&M will surely hate to be dismissed as irrelevant...

Viviennemary · 14/06/2020 16:47

Well they are irrelevant in the UK as far as public persona Royals.

ARoseInHarlem · 14/06/2020 18:14

If they are settling permanently overseas, with a view to being active overseas, earning a living overseas, raising a family there, entering political conversations there, I absolutely think they should not be allowed to retain the Dukedom of Sussex. What service would they be providing to Sussex or the UK? The odd conference call or Instagram post or flying visit isn’t enough to deserve the title. H is a Prince by birth, and whatever his wife and children are entitled to as a consequence is fine. But the Dukedom was gifted on marriage with a view to them setting up a household which would be of service to the UK.

If they continue to call themselves the Duke and Duchess of, while working and making roots elsewhere (and arguably using these titles to do so), they will basically be doing the half-in/half-out that HMQ has denied them.

Charles has had a place and Gstaad, Andrew in Switzerland, Margaret in Mustique etc. But those have all been second (or third or whatever) homes. They have always been based in the UK, and they could always have argued that their hearts lay primarily in the UK. I don’t know how H&M could say the same when so publicly cutting ties with the UK, fleeing, and actively choosing to raise their family in Malibu.

Viviennemary · 14/06/2020 19:18

And now according to the DM Doria has moved in to be Archie's nanny. Not sure how believable that is.

ButteryPuffin · 14/06/2020 19:48

I'd be surprised. Doria has

ButteryPuffin · 14/06/2020 19:50

Oops, hit post by mistake. Doria has been very sensible to date about keeping her own life and independence. I suppose she could move in temporarily but in her position I would not give up my own place for sure.

SunbathingDragon · 14/06/2020 20:56

It seems odd to me if Doria has moved in to look after Archie. I don’t know how close Meghan and Doria are but even when close, it’s still not usual to move your mother in for childcare when you can afford to pay for it. The only reason I can think would be to prevent any outsiders being able to sell stories.

ajandjjmum · 14/06/2020 21:03

Maybe Meghan only has Doria to call on now for support, as she's in effect lost her best friend. I actually feel quite sorry for her - words I never thought I'd say!

Viviennemary · 14/06/2020 21:19

I read that Archie was left with JM when she briefly returned to the UK. So they must have been close. And now Archie won't see her presumably.Sad

I’m sure their friendship will continue away from the public gaze.
FruitPastillesaregood · 14/06/2020 23:37

I bet it’s all complete made up rubbish anyway.

EthelMayFergus · 15/06/2020 07:53

Are they moving again? The DM article that says Doria is moving in with them into their £8m home, their current home is a £15m/$18m mansion. Not that I believe Doria is moving in, she seems to have her own life and lives it privately, and they must already have a nanny for Archie.
If Doria and Meghan are as close as this new narrative (of her moving in with them) is portraying then she must've been heartbroken at Harry's 'The family she never had' bollocks during the engagement interview.

BarleylemonPenguin · 15/06/2020 08:57

then she must've been heartbroken at Harry's 'The family she never had' bollocks during the engagement interview

Ethel - I agree that the 'family she never had' comment was a stunning piece of loaded rhetoric. What on earth did it mean and why was it said? It was bound to upset absolutely everybody, including her mother.

HarryDaylight · 15/06/2020 10:22

Morning Jeff! 👋

Oldbutstillgotit · 15/06/2020 10:25

The Sun published a story saying that H was finding his feet in LA thanks to his friendship with Liza Minnelli. She has tweeted that she wishes H and M well but has never met them ! Strange.

Roussette · 15/06/2020 10:30

Ahhhh... well it is The Sun, only to be expected, horrible rag !

jeffgoldblumlovespenguins · 15/06/2020 10:34
