I'm old and remember Princess Margaret well, she was not popular but I have to say, she didn't make a lot of effort, she really did what she wanted to do.
Apart from, of course, marrying the man who was the love of her life. I think she paid for that dearly, I remember think how sad it all was.

Later in her life there was a lot of scandal, she had a boyfriend who was a gardener 20 years younger than her called Roddy. At the time I remember my parents thinking it wa scandalous!

caperberries · 12/06/2020 13:26

The Jessica Mulroney thing is terrible. It will be interesting to see how Meghan reacts. I wouldn’t associate with someone who did this but then I wouldn’t be friends with them in the first place.

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.

No doubt MM will be wanting to distance herself from JM, but she's in a tricky spot because JM has, by many accounts, played a key part in MM's lofty ascent. And JM doesn't seem like someone I'd want as an enemy.

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/06/2020 13:28

I do think 'this' is more because of social media taking off and because there's been a sea of change about the RF

People have always done 'this' and always will. I have referenced the recent book 'Sapiens' numerous times, which explains that humans need to ''gossip' for survival. It is, literally, a survival mechanism.

We are the only species to have language (others communicate, but we are the only ones with spoken and written language). Therefore, what is said is of key importance to us. 'Language' can't be 'shut down'. Picking apart who does what to and with whom are crucial in aiding our understanding of our world. This means that all 'sides' relating to an issue need to be discussed - not just one side, all sides. 'This' can't be stopped (naturally...).

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/06/2020 13:30

I certainly hope you don’t walk up to strangers discussing H&M in real life and demand evidence for their opinions.

This is a discussion that I am part of. I've been on MN for quite a few years and on these threads since they began. Are you suggesting that I am an interloper in an otherwise private discussion? In the world of MN, you are not a stranger to me, Froq nor are many, if not most, of the other posters on this thread.

By 'this' I meant 'discussion' of MM but yes I get what you say. Interesting post.

Froq · 12/06/2020 13:41

Ah. I see humour isn’t welcome here either. My bad.

Might join that gardening board.

lifestooshort123 · 12/06/2020 13:55

I see JM more as a nasty bully here rather than a racist - she did use her white privilege though in the process. I also remember how the media bashed Fergie, Diana and then Kate when she first appeared on the scene. It has been worse for MM because she has social media to contend with (and all the keyboard warriors) but rumour has it she reads very little of it. Anyway, her thin-skinned reaction coupled with Harry's vulnerable state made them unsuitable for the roles expected of them in the RF. I hope they don't settle in LA as it seems they've jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

MissEliza · 12/06/2020 14:37

I can't get my head around what JM was thinking. I agree that people shouldn't be made to take a stand but why did she get so mad at the woman? It doesn't make any sense.

SunbathingDragon · 12/06/2020 14:42

The logic behind the public paying for the wedding and the house, from their perspective, could have been that it was their due because they would remain part-time Royals.

I can see this being their view and whilst I don’t agree with it, I think that’s because of how they went about leaving the RF. If they had agreed a part time deal which benefited the country as well as pleased them because they had the freedom to travel and spent lots of time in a way they chose, then I think it would have been much more acceptable (especially if it’s true Frogmore Cottage was to be renovated anyway - although considering it was five properties and used for staff, I don’t believe the costs would have been in any way comparable).

Out of interest what was the cost of Eugenie’s wedding compared to Harry’s (excluding wedding dresses)?

SunbathingDragon · 12/06/2020 14:45

I haven’t seen much about JM prior to the recent articles to comment on whether she has been racist, but she has come across to me as being an unpleasant bully based on her messages.

Lady C said the first "warning" something wasn't quite right was four days after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed at Windsor Castle on 19th May 2018.
On May 22nd the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Royal Family in the grounds of Buckingham Palace where the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales gathered for a party for Charles. Prince Charles' joyful occasion was marked, Lady Campbell claims, by Meghan who did something that "astonished" an attendee with "impeccable palace connections".

Samcro · 12/06/2020 15:19

i wonder what they made up.

ARoseInHarlem · 12/06/2020 15:40

That could mean anything! I’m often astonished by things like Britain’s Got Talent, or Love Island, but lots of people seem to think they’re fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lockupyourbiscuits · 12/06/2020 16:02

I can’t believe she did anything that astonishing - unless she pushed the queen over 😂
Sounds like a non story

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/06/2020 16:09

It does sound like hyperbole designed to whip up book sales but then isn't this also the event that they were asked to leave after 20 minutes?

Wolfgirrl · 12/06/2020 16:11

The logic behind the public paying for the wedding and the house, from their perspective, could have been that it was their due because they would remain part-time Royals

Yes I'm sure they agonized over it night after night, whether being part time royals justified a £32 million wedding. They must have done much soul searching before concluding yes, they would have to take the money.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

Even by pro-H&M standards that's pathetic.

Nanasueathome · 12/06/2020 16:11

Yes, I seem to remember they were at a party for PC and they were asked to leave after a very short time
I don’t think any details or confirmation was ever given though so not sure what actually happened (or even if anything did)

Samcro · 12/06/2020 16:22

i don't remember that, not saying it didn't happen. but it does sound a bit odd. maybe they just chose to leave early.

FruitPastillesaregood · 12/06/2020 16:26

I am so curious now as to what this something was. Mind boggling.

MissEliza · 12/06/2020 16:28

I remember seeing the garden party on the news and the reporter saying they were leaving early not to take the spotlight from Prince Charles. It seemed a bit odd but I think Charles is a bit sensitive about his image and popularity.

derxa · 12/06/2020 16:29

I think Meghan Shock stuck her tongue out during the Prince C garden party.

That would be quite something Grin
Roussette · 12/06/2020 16:40

"Lady Campbell claims" is enough for me to be frank.

I wonder if they were strongarmed out the grounds by security Grin
