(Margaret) was not popular but I have to say, she didn't make a lot of effort, she really did what she wanted to do.
Apart from, of course, marrying the man who was the love of her life

I've never been convinced about that one TBH. Margaret could have married him, except that it would have cost her a lot in money and position, and clearly that's not something she wanted to give up for a life as mere Mrs Townsend

It didn't stop her playing up her "poor me" status for the rest of her life though ...

caperberries · 12/06/2020 16:58

Thing is, when it comes to H&M, so many of the rumours turn out to be true.

This emerged in their court case - a royal expert pointed out that the only articles they could cite as proof of the lies and ‘vendetta’ about them were banal things like a piece about the supposed cost of their copper bathtub & an article about the problems with the avocado industry which mentioned Meghan in the headline. There was no mention of the many articles about them sacking staff/being rude/ falling out with various people - because these stories were mostly true.

Roussette · 12/06/2020 17:00

Yes I agree puzzled. It was different times, and she would've had to give up her status, her royal position etc. She chose not to.

And yes it did end up as the love story that never was, which I think shaped her for the rest of her life.

We may think H&M is the real big scandal, but I remember those times after she met Roddy, before she was divorced, and it was always 'oh heck, what is she going to do next....'

The Queen can't say she isn't used to a bit of scandal in the family...

Sousone · 12/06/2020 17:01

Yes we’re quite capable of working out that a post includes rumours or opinions, it’d be great if posters didn’t feel the need to point that out. Thank you.

Would sticking a tongue out be that bad? I can believe Charles not wanting to share the limelight with all cameras focused on the couple.

I enjoy the Margaret history.

Roussette · 12/06/2020 17:02

Rumours are just that... rumours AFAIC

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/06/2020 17:22

Would sticking a tongue out be that bad?

In the context of the bad behaviour that we routinely see among these people, probably not (I read recently about the husband of Margaret's closest lady-in-waiting, who used to lie face down in the gangway of a plane, and have a toddler tantrum because he couldn't go into First Class with Margaret and his wife - the latter being strange in itself Hmm). However, HaM must have done something. The only thing I can think of is that the behaviour of PA, the tantruming Lord, and everyone else who has ever behaved badly within the RF orbit has never directly threatened the RF interests, whereas HaM must have done something that the RF perceive as working against them.

Roussette · 12/06/2020 17:28

I just can't imagine a grown woman sticking her tongue out! I don't suppose I have for decades, can't remember the last time. But maybe people do it, I don't know

The only thing I can think of is maybe taking a picture on her phone? In the wrong circumstances, that would've been frowned upon wouldn't it?

Samcro · 12/06/2020 17:35

Are we just making stuff up now.
In that case i think she tripped kate up and tried to get off with will.

FruitPastillesaregood · 12/06/2020 17:36

I’ve just seen it on the internet. Don’t know the context though.

Viviennemary · 12/06/2020 17:37

My granny told me that she Princess Margaret had raucous parties and if things were getting boring she used to make the band play and everybody sing Roll out the Barrel. Sounds like fun. Grin Don't ask me how my granny was privvy to these things.

FruitPastillesaregood · 12/06/2020 17:38

Sorry doesn’t seem to work

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/06/2020 17:41

I don't think the tongue issue is the event that is driving 'this'. The RF is all about maintaining power (just like every other organisation). Nothing else is important and everything else is tolerated (that's not the RF being 'evil' - it's how organisations/people work). Diana set herself up as working against the RF interests, and I think that HaM did too, hence their exit.

TheNavigator · 12/06/2020 17:51

I'm not going to click on a Sun link - not after their disgraceful treatment of JK Rowling and domestic abuse.

FruitPastillesaregood · 12/06/2020 17:52

Fair enough. It was the only thing that came up when I searched

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/06/2020 18:00

Thing is, when it comes to H&M, so many of the rumours turn out to be true.

And just as many are made-up bullshit, especially ones that come from some of the darker recesses of the web that a few MN posters like to dredge up.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 12/06/2020 18:06

I’m not the Sussexes greatest fan but it all looks perfectly amicable to me. Almost like you’ve shown up, done your bit, so now you can go home & relax

Apologies for the rambling at the beginning - I just pressed skip ad ASAP.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 12/06/2020 18:07

It certainly doesn’t look like they’ve been asked to leave imo.

So true, imo if the source is the DM od sun its most likely rubbish

There you go. The whole fuss is a bit pitiful though

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/06/2020 18:27

And bingo. I knew that someone would post that picture. It's likely just an unlucky shot of her wetting her lips or trying to get something off her teeth.

I'm now waiting for the full card of bingo on this picture. You all can advance search Meghan/tongue to save yourselves the trouble of having to come up with original ideas of why it is an intentional act of disrespect.

MissEliza · 12/06/2020 18:31

I do remember that event because it was flipping hot that day and I thought MM must have been baking in that outfit. I recall it all looked like it was going swimmingly well with smiles all round.

Andylion · 12/06/2020 18:31

To me it looks like she is sticking out her tongue , but in a playful, not insulting, way.

SunbathingDragon · 12/06/2020 19:14

@caperberries

The Jessica Mulroney thing is terrible. It will be interesting to see how Meghan reacts. I wouldn’t associate with someone who did this but then I wouldn’t be friends with them in the first place.

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.

No doubt MM will be wanting to distance herself from JM, but she's in a tricky spot because JM has, by many accounts, played a key part in MM's lofty ascent. And JM doesn't seem like someone I'd want as an enemy.

I think she will have to, publicly at least, distance herself. Prince Andrew saw himself understandably ostracised from the Royal Family due to an inappropriate friendship (although the allegations of underage sex and lack of empathy with the victims were perhaps the true reason).
Samcro · 12/06/2020 19:17

Thats a really bad picture. She looks like she is smiling.
Maybe it was taken by the same person who took the one of the queen and PP
💂‍♀️💂🏽😀
