I have posted this on Royal threads before , I read somewhere that the Queen and PP understand all the crowds and adulation are for the Crown, not the individual. It doesn't matter who is King/Queen, the adoration remains the same. (Charles is criticised now but he won't be anything like as much when he is King, mark my words.)
The problem is (say HMQ & PP) that newcomers - like Diana and Fedgie, and now Meghan - assume it is personal, that the crowds are cheering for them personally because they love them. That's why they take it so badly when there is from time to time a negative backlash.
Once a member of the RF can detach and think "they are not cheering because they love me. They would cheer any eejit in a tiara," they can see it for what it is, detach, get on with the job, and enjoy their private life behind the facade of the Crown.
