The plot thickens...

I interpret this article as saying Meghan is the source for the Tatler article. In which case she might have made some money but dear lord she is playing a dangerous game.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 02/06/2020 08:29

Giving MM the benefit of the doubt over the article, you'd still have to say she has some very dodgy friends. Who on earth would think it appropriate to wade in on social media on her behalf? It's not going to help heal any rifts between them all.

MM's finest hour was being one of the Fab Four, if only she knew it. Pity she threw that away.

EthelMayFergus · 02/06/2020 08:29

She is playing a dangerous game Isn't she just, Meghan's 'circle' is now rumoured to be behind both of the big negative stories about W&K. If there's any truth in that then they're absolutely bonkers as William will surely have control over Harry's Duchy income in the future. And what about Archie? Even if you were consumed by jealousy for your sister in law - the future queen - you'd want your child to have a good relationship with them and their cousins.

HarryDaylight · 02/06/2020 08:38

That's interesting, as the first thing that I noticed when I read the poisonous Tatler article was that Pasternak referred to H&M as seeking exile in Northern America.

THey didn't seek exile, which implies that they were victims being punished by the UK by being banished from the country. The rest of the House of Windsor took a pasting, apart from them.

FruitPastillesaregood · 02/06/2020 08:46

Its an assumption though that M wants to heal rifts or wants Archie to have a relationship with his cousins. Perhaps she feels she’s done with them all and wants to cause trouble in order to feel better about what has happened.

EvilPea · 02/06/2020 09:02

My take on it
Kate gave Meghan a pep talk before joining “it’s glamorous but once your in your in, your in and you have to conform”
“God all William does is go on about my mum”

Then the tights argument

And she’s sold out or told a friend about these little throw away remarks / advice.

wufti · 02/06/2020 09:10

WAK seem to have a fairly secure circle of friends who don't leak information to the tabloids. The tattler article was a really poisonous piece of work - the work of someone who really holds a grudge.

If WAK are confident that the source for this really is outside their private circle, I am not surprised that they have asked for the article to be removed. Generally, they and the Palace let nearly all gossip and negatives wash over them - the don't complain, don't explain attitude - but the article is a summary of all the negative points raised about Kate over the years plus rehashing of gossip against Carole and Pippa. The Tatler will of course defend their position for some time - regardless of stating their sources are reliable - and it will be interesting to see if WAK take the matter further.

Per the posts above, it does have the stamp of Meghan all over it.

HarryDaylight · 02/06/2020 09:16

That's what I thought too, Wufti It was a rehash of old negative press stories with an odd contemptuous undertone to it.

It was definitely written by someone with an intense dislike of K.

Viviennemary · 02/06/2020 09:40

I thought from the start Meghan and/or her friends were behind the article.

DateLoaf · 02/06/2020 09:46

Oh dear. Obviously journalists and Meghans friends can’t help who they are related to. Those facts don’t in themselves mean anything untoward or ‘prove‘ anything at all. But with Tatler being publicly bullish about their sources (of course they will be, they are having legal action taken against them!), now this ‘link’ the Sun are pointing to looks worse and harder to rebut.

Well placed sources which Tatler may feel they have access to, don’t always know the truth or tell the truth either. But now there’s going to be lots more awkward questions publicly pressed because legal action creates ‘sides’ who will want to be proven right.

Good that the Sun have explicitly said there is no link back to Meghan, but how awkward has this made things for her close friend Jessica Mulroney who has been put in the frame for gossiping because of who she is married to and friends with.

K or W&K would do better to just have smiled, nodded and ignored this Tatler piece. It has already stirred things up, and it just creates more options for further press comment. Legal action gives a tiny core of fact to hang very tenuous stories around and gives the original assertions in Tatler much more attention and longevity than they deserved.

FruitPastillesaregood · 02/06/2020 09:48

Now M isn’t doing Instagram tit for tat she has to find another way of getting her digs in I suppose.

ArchePenguin · 02/06/2020 09:59

I have had a vision of the future.

The Sussexes are crippled financially and have to return. They are sent to live in a grave and favour apartment in the Tower of London. But in order to earn his keep Harry has to become a beefeater and tell stories to tourists about the good old days when he was a proper Royal.

FruitPastillesaregood · 02/06/2020 10:04

😁😁

ButteryPuffin · 02/06/2020 10:12

EvilPea that sounds plausible. A relatively small amount of family / insider talk that was then repackaged for publication. Would fit with this whole idea of MM keeping a diary of her time there.

DateLoaf I broadly agree with your view about taking action. Presumably they just didn't want to just ignore this one, so there we are. The article doesn't make Tatler look good, though. Makes their snobbishness look even more out of touch than the royals themselves, if that seems possible.

ArchePenguin LOL! Yes, I can see a future for Harry as a kind of ancient mariner set to retell the same story to everyone he meets. Possibly not for the vast corporate speaker sums that were once envisioned.

wufti · 02/06/2020 10:19

WAK very rarely issue legal letters - i get the the impression they have very good PR and legal teams and importantly, listen to them - so there must be something in the Tatler piece that they really object to and feel they have grounds to do so. Kate has taken a lot of abuse - the Hilary Mantel description was very derogatory - but no action was taken.

DateLoaf · 02/06/2020 10:24

We’re on p20!

thisenglishlife · 02/06/2020 10:47

If the Mulroney sister in law who previously worked for Tatler had any influence and was pro-Meghan, then why have Tatler produced various negative Meghan stories and covers? Including the one where she was called social climber of the year.

The Tatler story is rehashed early Kate criticisms and is also negative about Meghan. Let's not say that Meghan or her circle had anything to do with it. In fact, in reading it, the sources seem to be aristos who don't like the young royals.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 02/06/2020 10:57

They are sent to live in a grave

Bit extreme Arch? WinkGrin

derxa · 02/06/2020 11:10

I don't think Tatler like either Meghan or Kate. This is a way of killing two birds with one stone. However Meghan and her circle may well have had something to do with it.

BelarusIsGreat · 02/06/2020 11:13

What if they are suing this time to out the sources? If it does turn out to be MM and friends, they finally have proof of all the "placement" of negative stories.

DateLoaf · 02/06/2020 11:18

I agree with you Englishlife the jibes against Kate in the Tatler seemed to rehash multiple jibes in media articles going back several years predating Meghan ever being on the scene.

thisenglishlife · 02/06/2020 11:18

"If it does turn out to be MM and friends, they finally have proof of all the "placement" of negative stories*
What negative stories have they been linked to?
