@ 3cats I think that was published on 1st April ......

cheezy · 20/05/2020 12:39

@3cats I believe the above was from BG and was published on April 1st. (God knows why I know this)

Teddy1970 · 20/05/2020 12:40

3cats if you scrolled down to the bottom of blind item I think they said it was an April fool, fuck me, why Harry and Meghan thought they'd get an easier ride with the US press God only knows.

3cats · 20/05/2020 12:51

Oh, I missed that!! 🤦‍♀️

I agree that the US press is even more bonkers than the UK press.

TimeLady · 20/05/2020 13:02

Job prospects not looking good for The Duchess either

Allflightscancelled · 20/05/2020 13:41

What's the gist of that article, @TimeLady? Can't read any of it (and believe me, I've strained my eyes trying Grin)

TimeLady · 20/05/2020 14:50

Is this any better?

I have free access to some of these US tabloids and can see the Globe article, which I'm not prepared to share here, as it's rather distasteful, but how either of them can think that the US press is in any way less harsh than the DM etc is beyond me.

People may not admit to buying these US supermarket tabloids, but I bet there's plenty sneaking a peak or reading the cover whilst in the store or in the hairdressers.

I do believe that Harry didn’t want the life that was expected of him and would have been very happy spending large amounts of time in Africa. I also think it probably could have been negotiated in a way the RF and Harry were happy with.

I also think the BG article is probably true. It comes down to whether Meghan manipulated him from the start or else didn’t anticipate what being married to Harry would really be like and changed her mind. Either way, they come across badly now.

Inspiralcarpetry · 20/05/2020 15:58

That BG article sounds very feasible...I wonder who leaks the information?

Allflightscancelled · 20/05/2020 16:20

Thanks, @TimeLady, that IS better Grin

GingerScallop · 20/05/2020 17:21

As an African I ask myself, in Africa doing what exactly? We have enough unskilled western expats taking the limelight while locals grind it out. Even if you look at Sentabale frontline, 99% white. Do they have more experience with hiv than locals? And I always bristled at how he looks at Africa, even before MM. A benevolent 35 year old white father pitying a whole continent and sorting all its problems. With all the experience gained in a palace. Arrrgh suka! As they would say in RSA.

@GingerScallop

I agree entirely. Have you seen this?

Jillyhilly · 20/05/2020 17:46

Oh that’s SO well-put, GingerScallop!

And that barbiesaviour link is genius.

TimeLady · 20/05/2020 17:54

Don’t forget- We have been repeatedly advised that MN is not the place for speculation about anyone’s mental health issues.

Re his ‘interest’ in Africa- he’s said he wants to continue his mother’s work but he has no expertise and I agree it comes across as patronising, albeit undoubtedly well-meant.

He’d be far better off finding some genuine passion he could indulge in out of the public eye - but actually being a Commonwealth ambassador, promoter of Invictus etc shows you that he actually likes the limelight and the praise as much as his wife, despite all his protestations to the contrary.

TimeLady · 20/05/2020 18:02

I suspect deep down he resents not being in the starring role like William or his mother, potentially ending up with worthy but second tier gigs like Anne, Andrew and Edward.

mooching · 20/05/2020 18:18

I think he is interested in conservation but I don't think he knows much as in day to day skills so wouldn't be much use, plus as said above plenty of locals more knowledgeable/useful and equally as passionate.

I'm married to an African and we lived there for a long time, I have always wondered about the need for help, mostly it is about making yourself feel better rather than empowering locals.

GingerScallop · 20/05/2020 19:06

Mooching and as you would appreciate, living there is very different from visiting for holidays or for shooting game (H). And the minefields would be more numerous without simply explaining criticism as racism (although there has been a lot of that too). Can you imagine these two telling people to not "just survive but thrive"? Local press would be like "most of us strive, survive, and thrive, all in an hour!". Even losing a parent (and am sorry he lost his mum so young) wouldn't carry that much weight as so many lose both parents, siblings, extended family at very young ages and without the comfort of suffocating wealth.
I think they made the right decision to stay in the West. I think there best bet (and am sure they know this) is to keep calling themselves "young royals" and align themselves to the Instagram generation of the Kardashianistic subspecies. Those subspecies love drama and glamour and self promotion

GingerScallop · 20/05/2020 19:10

wrongsideofhistorymyarse hahaha. Yes, I remember this from the Mrs Mnuchin saga. Well remembered

BarleylemonPenguin · 20/05/2020 19:28

I think there best bet (and am sure they know this) is to keep calling themselves "young royals" and align themselves to the Instagram generation of the Kardashianistic subspecies. Those subspecies love drama and glamour and self promotion

The big problem with this is that the Kardashian-esque self-promoters are an example of a bubble. Only a few people benefit from a bubble before it bursts. For every Kardashian who has made a living out of hot air and nonsense, there are many, many others who haven't. HaM are not the Kardashians or any of the few others who can make a living in this way. HaM are tired, battle-scarred and weary. They are not glitzy, glam, innovative or entrepreneurial, and no-one should expect them to be because they are now part of the older, 'slowing down' crowd. The best thing they could have done was stay within the royal fold.

ajandjjmum · 20/05/2020 19:32

It is unfortunate that due to their ages when they met, it was pretty impossible for them to hang around if they wanted DC. A few years with just the two of them would have been hugely beneficial to their relationship - infact to any relationship. Although I am sure they love Archie to bits.

Wolfgirrl · 20/05/2020 19:45

I think covid has been an absolute disaster for H&M. Any momentum they had from their departure to kickstart their new enterprises has been well and truly squashed. Can anyone else see their A-list friends vanishing soon? Without royal connections or anything high profile in the pipeline, what use are they to anybody? I'm not sure they will be at that mansion for long.

highmarkingsnowbile · 20/05/2020 20:02

I think Covid has totally scuppered their dreams of easy riches just for being them. People just don't care about such useless slebs anymore enough to line their pockets to the tune of millions, the bubble has burst and will completely deflate once the true economic ramifications of C19 and lockdown become apparent. Boohoo, they're still in an incredibly privileged position compared to 99% of those who've suffered financially in this.

Wolfgirrl · 20/05/2020 20:10

Agreed. But theyve cut their cloth according to the money they thought they were going to earn - they presumed they would make enough to splash out on an LA mansion in an exclusive area and live like Oprah, the Cloonets etc. They also didnt expect they would have to pay for their own security bill which cant be cheap. I dont know if private schools are a 'thing' in the states (maybe someone can enlighten me?) But I also presume they would be looking to send Archie to one. I think their money will run dry a lot faster than they thought.
