That's what I thought too @EthelMayFergus

BalloonSlayer · 06/05/2020 13:09

Just to backtrack a bit, someone mentioned the huge number of Henrys and Catherines in the Tudor Court.

This is of course because people gave their children the same names as the King and Queen.

I found it mildly mind-blowing (in an ick way) to read that Catherine Parr was named after Catherine of Aragon, who was Queen when she was born.

An absolutely charming video of Archie being read a story to has been posted online.

He's the image of his dad and as bright as they come.

Just lovely.

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:16

All you can see of me is the top of my head. But this wasn't a video made for family memories, it was for a charity appeal! Therefore, the way it was shot was the best view.

Also daughter is a similar age to Archie and she’s far more excited about books then he appears to be in this video. For whose benefit was this video made?

He looked to be loving being read to and its obvious it's something he's used to.

Your post is horrible.

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:20

For whose benefit was this video made?
Save the Children

My baby nephew loves books/reading too, will he also pay 100% attention all the time? No. Should I make him perform if I had to record a reading?

@thisenglishlife yes but the best view of Meghan not Archie, which is a bit bizarre.

It’s for charity yes, but also clearly to honour his birthday - hence the release date. He’s not even dressed (by that I don’t mean a fancy outfit or anything but even in a nice babygrow).

Mariposa123 · 06/05/2020 13:22

Okay fair enough, I hadn’t seen the reason it was made. Explains the staged nature of it.

I didn’t mean to be nasty, more that the video looks like something that’s been set up than an organic, family moment

TheClootieDumplin · 06/05/2020 13:23

(by that I don’t mean a fancy outfit or anything but even in a nice babygrow).

It's quite common in hot climates for a baby to be dressed the way he is.

C0rdelia · 06/05/2020 13:29

Why isn’t Harry reading it?

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:35

yes but the best view of Meghan not Archie, which is a bit bizarre. It's the same view!

Why isn’t Harry reading it?
Does it matter? You can hear Harry talking in the background and saying "Bravo!" and other things

That picture is lovely, and Archie is gorgeous, but the video is of MM engaging with the camera and then just as it becomes interesting and Archie starts 'chatting' the camera stops rolling as he's 'da da da' ing. It was so cute for a few seconds at the end.

wombandovaries · 06/05/2020 13:37

Oh, If they had engaged with the public like this from the beginning.

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:38

something that’s been set up than an organic... moment
This is literally every royal family moment - from 'working' at desks to schools walks to to visits and to everything else

LaMarschallin · 06/05/2020 13:40

TheClootieDumplin

He looked to be loving being read to

That is something I noticed and is really positive.

I did think the video was equally about Meghan as it was about Archie, but they probably still feel they have a point to prove.

Mariposa123 · 06/05/2020 13:41

Yes but I thought they didn’t want to use Archie in this way, like the royals do?

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:42

just as it becomes interesting and Archie starts 'chatting' the camera stops rolling as he's 'da da da' ing. It was so cute for a few seconds at the end.
Agree, but this is a short Instagram TV format and the point is just to read the story and then flash the donation information (she read the whole story and he happened to begin babbling after that).

caperberries · 06/05/2020 13:44

It's an odd thing to share. It's a very intimate video, the sort of thing you might share with grandparents. I wouldn't even post something like this on Facebook for friends to see.

ArchePenguin · 06/05/2020 13:45

Fergie got there first with the storytelling. She is going to be a brilliant grandmother.

storytime with Fergie and Friends

caperberries · 06/05/2020 13:45

A (much) shorter story may have worked better

thisenglishlife · 06/05/2020 13:45

Yes but I thought they didn’t want to use Archie in this way, like the royals do?
They wanted to bring him up as a private citizen, not in private.

They proved this as they chose not to give him a title:
There was the option of using Prince Harry's subsidiary title of Earl of Dumbarton, as a courtesy, but Meghan and Harry decided instead that he would be styled as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, in accordance with their wish that he grow up as a private citizen.

EthelMayFergus · 06/05/2020 13:45

Mariposa123 Everything they say is at odds with everything they do. It is complete hypocrisy coupled with an arrogant belief that the public are too stupid to notice.

Dandyish · 06/05/2020 13:46

then just as it becomes interesting and Archie starts 'chatting' the camera stops rolling as he's 'da da da' ing. It was so cute for a few seconds at the end.

That’s so funny, I said exactly the same thing on another thread! Great minds think alike... or fools seldom differ.

TheClootieDumplin · 06/05/2020 13:49

That is something I noticed and is really positive

Yes. And as soon as the book was finished he put his hand down the side of the chair to pick up another one.

This is boy who's well used to being read too.
