How is that possible? How can they have a release date for a book that hasn’t been written? Interesting idea though.

@ Myimaginarycathasfleas.
I don’t know , I just thought it was interesting that Dickie Arbiter , who I am sure worked for HM, should raise this .
How can a book have a release date if it hasn’t been written ? Is it not more likely that there is some sort of legal move taking place ?

Allflightscancelled · 06/05/2020 10:59

I think it's possible that it's being written on the fly. I can't remember the term, but in academia they occasionally produce some topical work in a sort of superheated environment, where a group of people all get together and write a bit.

Obviously I don't think this is going to be in any way an academic title Grin

In this case it would probably be loads and loads of Meghan-approved sycophantic photos, with some gushing extended captions, and a few paragraphs to give each chapter context. That might also explain the big price tag, if there's lots of colour pics.

TimeLady · 06/05/2020 11:04

Hardcover edition currently on sale on Amazon.co.uk at £17.60.

How can a book have a release date if it hasn’t been written
This is the case for a surprising amount of non-fiction books. Additionally, I knew several journalists, who received book deals on whatever topic the publisher wanted. They would then publicise the book and have only have months to write it. They kept mentioning how they had nearly written the book, even fairly close to the publishing date.

It sounds strange, but it isn't unusual, especially where the publisher has really wanted the book and believes it will sell well.

7Worfs · 06/05/2020 11:29

Risky, what if the book (any book) is so shit it would require rounds of editing?

JamieLeeCurtains · 06/05/2020 11:53

In that case, 7Worfs, they get sent to sad ex-academics like me for 'final editing' (for a fee)

caperberries · 06/05/2020 11:53

It's quite common for publishers to mock up prospective non-fiction books & advertise them, tout them at the major book fairs (London, Frankfurt etc) to gauge interest, and then either hurriedly write them or abandon the project altogether if there's little interest

7Worfs · 06/05/2020 11:56

Is 'final editing' an euphemism for rewriting the whole wretched thing? Grin

Already got the title for the next thread there! Grin

JamieLeeCurtains · 06/05/2020 11:58

Allflightscancelled · 06/05/2020 12:02

Allflightscancelled · 06/05/2020 12:13

Well we know now she’s is celebrating Archies birthday with a video of her reading a book to him.... so much for wanting privacy

Perhaps they had to run the copy past HM and she put her foot down? Told them to rewrite or delete large sections? They wouldn’t like that at all!

You lot are going to be hard pressed to find something in Archie’s birthday video to criticise, but go on, dare you.

7Worfs · 06/05/2020 12:54

I don’t intend to watch it, MM’s accent and mannerisms are doing my head in.

I reckon the legal read/final edit could take longer than the actual writing of the text.

Unless, of course, there's absolutely nothing in it apart from H&M's carefully dictated 'vision' for their 'legacy', and some lovely photos of them and one of Archie.

EthelMayFergus · 06/05/2020 13:02

Ok Cheezy, I'll bite. We have a video of me reading a book to my first born one year old, do you know who I was showing the pages of the book to? Camera or baby? Have a guess. All you can see of me is the top of my head.
