That’s the first time I’ve read that account, it was always the other way round when I read it before

Scobie has made his name on the back of being known as their trusted hack ... any statement that they did not cooperate with him will be implausible

I totally agree, but it seems they no longer care about what seems plausible or not; they just expect their narrative to be taken as read, with tantrums to follow if it isn't

All we will see from this student production is a taster, it is a warning to the royals of what they could actually do if they pressed the nuclear button

Agree with this too, but then the extent of what she knows is something I've wondered from the start, especially as it becomes ever clearer she had no intention of staying here
I'd expect the RF to be careful for a while about what they reveal to "newcomers", but if Harry's already spilled the lot there's no knowing where this might lead

callmeadoctor · 05/05/2020 11:53

I bloody love Joanna Lumley, and doesn't she look amazing in that queue!!!

TimeLady · 05/05/2020 12:05

Of course, the US tabloids are SO much kinder and truthful Grin

Although mentioning the bunions was unnecessary, the DM highlighted MM's demanding behaviour. The bunions and foot photography ban was part of her wider pattern of behaviour on the shoot. If the details are correct, then it doesn't reflect too well on MM

I read it that way too. I pretty much instantly forgot about the foot thing - just saw it as being incredibly bossy about a part of her body she doesn't like (and hardly a private area- hands and feet aren't exactly shocking!) She could have just said "Please don't shoot my feet even for b roll". It was the way she did it, the feet themselves are almost an irrelevance. I say almost because her having had surgery on them could explain why she doesn't like them and we have no reason to know that she (probably) did.

SunbathingDragon · 05/05/2020 12:22

The Mail on Sunday has been told that before moving to North America, the privacy-obsessed Sussexes gave an interview to the book's authors, both journalists.

I am reading this as the Daily Mail telling H&M that they know they were involved with the book and making sure everyone else knows it as well, so that H&M cannot backtrack if it’s unkind to the rest of the royals. I think the Daily Mail will be doing what it can to make things as difficult as possible for them now purely because they said they won’t cooperate with them (I don’t think the legal case is the issue).

Winterlife · 05/05/2020 12:27

DM didn't make fun of MM's feet. They just mentioned she didn't want them filmed, and as trolling, they included lots of photos of said feet. I didn't think anything of it, and certainly don't view it as misogynistic. Further, MM can't be too ashamed of her feet, given there are plenty of photos of them, in sandals and in high heeled shoes. If anything, those photos made MM appear more sympathetic to me. It may be one explanation for why she often appears to be walking in heels that look a half size or full size too big (feet sliding to the front in her shoes, suggesting a poor fit). It could also explain why she seems to hold on to Harry for dear life.

Re bunions - they can be hereditary, but they also can be caused, or exacerbated, by closed toe high heeled shoes. There's a reason women suffer from them more than do men.

SunbathingDragon · 05/05/2020 12:41

How can H&M say they want their privacy and cooperate with a book being written about them? That’s the argument that I think DM is making by saying they did interviews. It supports their legal case in saying they sell themselves for publicity.

MrsGrindah · 05/05/2020 12:49

I’ve come on here to announce with a heavy heart that I shall be stepping down from my role as a senior Mumsnetter. I will continue to post on here daily but please respect my privacy and do not read them. Unless they are about me.

Also please don’t reply to my posts as that is a complete breach of my privacy and copyright and you may find yourself in court.

I want you all to completely leave me alone. Unless I decide to PM one of you in which case you have my approval to share the contents with the media. Apart from the Daily Mail.

Namaste

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 05/05/2020 12:50

I suppose, if you are obsessed with self-image and self-promotion above all, and you have a body part you don't like then perhaps you might forensically examine every photo? God, her feet are nicer than about 99.9% of the population!

winter I seem to remember ages ago why did she always wear shoes that are too big?! and yes, I'd have to hold an arm if I was wearing heels like that. Yet another reason I can never aspire to being Royal, I'd be like HMQ with stout heels of no more than 1.5".

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 05/05/2020 12:51

oh FFS why cant I bloody edit?! asking why her shoes were always too big...

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 12:55

I’d be faking on my arse every two minutes if I had to wear heels like that. I’d need a pair or ski poles to keep upright.

ARoseInHarlem · 05/05/2020 12:59

I just saw it reached the top spot on some kind of Amazon list of bestsellers (can’t quite work out what the list is). I’m wondering who is buying it, and it occurs to me that the thinking behind releasing it now has to be “people quarantined, nobody’s going out. Everyone is bored. BEST possible time to release a book about ourselves”. It’s a way to see that your book sells highly, ergo it’s a roaring success, ergo we are a roaring success.

It’s their (her? he’s never shown any inclination towards this type of self-publicity) MO for EVERYTHING.

Winterlife · 05/05/2020 13:16

Rose, I have a friend in the US who has been in publishing (sales) for 35 years. He told me that publishers have moved all their big book releases to 2021, anticipating that sales will be lower this year. I assume this is because publishers anticipate people will have less disposible income.

EthelMayFergus · 05/05/2020 13:32

Winter, I can't remember which thread it was from so apologies if I'm mistaken as I can't go back to look, but was it you who knew a friend of a photographer that pretty much described the latest Mail report of MM being a diva? Do you think it's the same one?

mooching · 05/05/2020 13:49

Is anyone based in America? What do people feel about them over there? I mean you're always going to find some people who are liked / disliked as that is the nature of fame but are they generally popular?

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 05/05/2020 13:50

That Star article (photo above) says MM is going to give up her dreams of returning to give Harry a chance of getting back to royal life. Do you think that’s because she hasn’t gotten the A list roles she wanted?

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 05/05/2020 13:51

Meant to say returning to acting ^

mamansnet · 05/05/2020 14:01

Slightly off topic, but with regard to the bunions...

Maaaany moons ago I studied a bit of media law and from what I remember, there was a funky little rule that said if you're being/have been sued for defamation for A, then you can't also be sued for B if it's not as bad. So for example, if the papers accuse you of being a paedophile and you sue them, then they go on to accuse you of being a petty thief, you can't also do them for the thief bit because the paedophilia is deemed to be far worse (happy to be corrected on any of this as it's been a while). Which means the press can have a field day and say pretty much anything they want if is less serious than the main accusation.

I know H&M aren't suing for defamation yet but it does seem like the DM is just laughing at them in a similar vein. MM cannot come out of the court case smelling of roses because of the Famous Five mess, and the DM knows it, so they'll go after her with every petty little story they can think of. I agree with pps that they're now showing H&M just far they're willing to go, pushing the diva allegations and so on, and above all they're showing that they're not afraid of them. They have far deeper pockets than H&M in any case, as we all know. MM has made herself an extremely dangerous enemy there. I simply don't see how she can ever turn it around.

Oh no! They're not coming back here? PLEASE!

I think it shows The Star and other US tabloids make things up to a far greater extent than the Daily Mail - but HaM aren't taking them to court.
