In my opinion they will have trouble distancing themselves from this book because OS co-wrote it. And he has travelled with them and, I believe, has said he is friends with them and he is one of the few journalists H&M said they would liaise with.

Also OS has chosen a career as a royal correspondent, but sided with non royals. That seems a bit weird. So he’s not a royal correspondent as I can’t imagine the rest of the RF will choose for him to be on speed dial. But I could be wrong

EthelMayFergus · 05/05/2020 10:07

Yes, Toasted, if he wants a career as a royal correspondent then picking team H & M was a strange move. Although I doubt any of the royal family would speak to Scobie; he's no Jonathan Dimbleby.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 10:13

Maybe he’s wanting to be more of a Celeb correspondent. More glam I suppose.

SunbathingDragon · 05/05/2020 10:15

Was he really ever a royal correspondent though? I thought he was always just a H&M correspondent.

JamieLeeCurtains · 05/05/2020 10:26

The more I think about that awful Daily Mail 'foot' article, the more I'm thinking it's actually going to backfire for the rag, because it is targeting her in a personal, unnecessary and misogynistic way.

It made me feel sorry for her.

I wonder if the DM believes 100% it will win the court case she's bringing because it knows and can prove that M co-operated with the book? That's a ridiculous article to print otherwise. I agree there's an element of brinkmanship going on now.

M&H are playing with fire. But so is the DailyMail.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/05/2020 10:30

Tom Bradby was dropped like a hot potato after the fallout from the survive/thrive comment. I'd imagine OS will face the same when the book becomes a laughing stock.

SunbathingDragon · 05/05/2020 10:31

I don’t think it will. The DM and many readers dislike Meghan. I think that the paper is doing it in revenge for being told they won’t have stories shared with them - I think they are saying either share stories and we will publish something nice or don’t and it will be awful.

CallmeAngelina · 05/05/2020 10:33

Agree - that "foot" article was mean and unnecessary.
What on earth is the issue with her having had possible bunion surgery? Who wouldn't, if it was unsightly and/or causing her pain?

Jillyhilly · 05/05/2020 10:41

It was absolutely mean and unnecessary article, and I think we can expect to see lots more like it now. They’ve opened the door to this kind of nonsense with their decision not to cooperate with the tabloids. It was a very poor call on their part.

miri1985 · 05/05/2020 10:43

The original articles about it said that they had been interviewed for it

Links? I was wondering what the source/s are for that, and if they are in a position to know.

It was the DM who seemed fairly confident about it

"The Mail on Sunday has been told that before moving to North America, the privacy-obsessed Sussexes gave an interview to the book's authors, both journalists. One of them, Omid Scobie, is an acknowledged Meghan cheerleader and was one of the favoured journalists given details of the couple's video call to the Queen last week in which they wished her a happy 94th birthday."
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8257071/Meghan-Harry-biography-bombshell-Royals.html

But other articles since are saying that they didn't give any interviews

I think you shouldn't catch a tiger by it's tail, and that's what they've done with the Mail.

I honestly dont feel sorry for her, she sounds like a right bloody diva in that article. All she had to say was "do you mind not getting my foot in the shot please". And why on earth would a minor 'actress' need an entourage of 12 people??

Ineedabreak19 · 05/05/2020 11:07

Although mentioning the bunions was unnecessary, the DM highlighted MM's demanding behaviour. The bunions and foot photography ban was part of her wider pattern of behaviour on the shoot. If the details are correct, then it doesn't reflect too well on MM.

Compare and contrast Grin

That's the way to endear yourself to the public.

Ineedabreak19 · 05/05/2020 11:13

Oh I love Joanna Lumley, she certainly is a class act.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 11:19

Joanna Lumley is an absolute star.

She was a 'guest speaker' at a work event (she knew our big boss well), refused to take a fee (it went straight to a charity).

She turned up (looking wonderful) acted very much like we were the boss and she had to please us (shall I stand here? photos over there? would you like me to do XYZ?). She had done her homework and was so charming - as grown men melted in little puddles around her as they stod for photos and chatted. She stayed until the bitter end (much longer than she was supposed to) smiling and being just a lovely person.

She thanked the staff, shook everyone's hand, and made sure that she had done what we wanted and that we were happy with her work.

A class act - and incredibly professional. Not like some of the 'guest speakers'...

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 05/05/2020 11:27

Quite low of the DM to talk about bunion surgery imo. As another pp said it’s a tad vindictive.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 05/05/2020 11:27

Joanna Lumley - what a star.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 11:29

Not as bad as Sarah Fergusson telling the world that borrowing princess Dianas shoes gave her verrucas. Bunions are quite tame in comparison (and not surprising considering the shoes).

CallmeAngelina · 05/05/2020 11:32

I thought that bunions were hereditary? Dh used to have them (before surgery!) but I can guarantee it's not from wearing fancy shoes! Mil and sil had/have them to a degree, but dh has lovely feet now. Fortunately, the kids aren't affected.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/05/2020 11:36

I agree. However much people like to demonise DM readers, they are not all of a type. There will be many who are unimpressed with H&M's conduct without necessarily wanting to buy into a hate campaign. I think it was ill judged.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 11:39

My sister has them - and she has had them from a teenager (true - never wore heels/pointy shoes in her life) but no one else in the family has them. She does have very skinny feet.

I thought the super-skinny sky-high shoes caused them?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 05/05/2020 11:41

I remember that!! Didn’t Diana refuse to speak to Fergie afterwards?

RosesandIris · 05/05/2020 11:41

@Lordfrontpaw

It was the other way round.. Diana caught verrucas from Fergie after she borrowed Diana’s shoes.

I do think the DM went too far. There are limits and making fun of someone’s feet is going beyond the limits.
