Post Covid I think there will be even less sympathy for tax payers footing bills. Massive events like what we are living through now make everyone reassess and in that light and with the debt burden we will have I just don’t see how anyone can justify our tax dollars supporting this man-child. At least I hope we pull the plug and leave them happily in LaLa land with their 34£ million to get by on.

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 22:14

I much prefer Barry to Harry!

Wheresthebeach · 27/03/2020 22:24

Barry does fit...

PineappleDanish · 27/03/2020 22:33

And of course things only have to be DISinfected if they're infected in the first place.

Which the strawberries won't be.

PineappleDanish · 27/03/2020 22:35

Whoops. That was supposed to be on the thread about disinfecting your strawberries. Sorry. As you were.

SussexRoyalPenguin · 27/03/2020 22:38

Disinfectant ties in nicely with what I was about to type.

The next venture will be an advert for Cillit Bang.

Hi. I’m Barry Wales.

BANG and the dirt is gone, yah?

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 22:39

I was just about to post @PineappleDanish that I assumed they strawberries’ were red-haired Harry & family and ‘DISinfected’ was a cryptic & cynical reference to them being DISNEYfied now they’re doing voice overs for the company and living in Hollywood.

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 22:50

(I didn’t really)

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 22:59

Cracking up here😁

Just read this-
www.thesun.co.uk/news/11273650/harry-meghan-los-angeles-move-tax/

and I know for a fact it’s BS. MM has to file a US tax return no matter where she lives. The Canada-US Tax Convention is nothing if not thorough. Both she and Harry would get credit for taxes paid on one jurisdiction when reporting income in another.

Income tax rates are similar at their assumed level of income.

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 23:04

Does anyone know where the legal action against the MOS went? It’s not been mentioned at all. Have they just quietly dropped it to avoid Thomas appearing and embarrassing them? Have they settle out of court? What is going on??

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 23:05

Harry was suing the papers for phone hacking too and that’s gone very quiet

@Winterlife I don’t understand how The Sun article is bullshit. Are you saying she wouldn’t also have to pay taxes in Canada?

MrsMGE · 27/03/2020 23:20

I had a lot of warmth and sympathy for them for a long, long time and thought they were attacked by the press and judged unfairly. However, this is such a selfish act, it's wrong. Their behaviour this year has been very poor and calculated. Their social media posts and website content are frankly nauseating. It's becoming pretty clear they are after the spotlight whilst benefitting from their status. Whether that comes from him or from her I don't know, but if it does from him then it's entirely inconsistent with what he's been saying over the years and recently about his attitude and MH. I have no more time for them, they seem very spoilt and entitled.

Winterlife · 27/03/2020 23:27

If MM were resident in Canada and she earned, say, US$1,000,000 in 2020, she would pay tax in Canada from residency (183 days in a calendar year), and she would also be required to pay US tax as she is a US citizen. However, she would be entitled to claim a credit for CDN taxes paid. Furthermore, she would also be entitled to claim a treaty exemption to avoid double taxation. Finally, even if the income earned is not covered by treaty, both Canada and the US provide tax credits for income taxes paid on income in another state. Therefore, the statement that H&M moved to the US to "avoid double taxation" is patently absurd. There would be almost no double taxation, particularly between Canada and the US, because so much business is done across that border, that their taxation systems are very well integrated and the treaty is designed to avoid this problem.

Winterlife · 27/03/2020 23:31

I believe MM loves the titles and the royal lifestyle, but didn't like the "heat" of the press. It's a pity, as I believe with time, that "heat" would have dissipated.

I believe Harry was looking for an escape from the UK, and that any speculation that the decision to leave, and to set up base in LA is MM's idea is wrong. I think he is as much a driving force behind this as she is, perhaps even more so.

I've read a few things Disney executives have said about MM, and one of the recent statements was that she is "polarizing". Disney is not a company that will hire a "polarizing" figure. So, I doubt Disney movies are an option for MM in the future, if she wanted a Hollywood career. TBH, I am not sold on the idea that is her goal.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 27/03/2020 23:40

I don't think MM is after a Hollywood career either. I think she sees herself as something more than an actress. The term "philanthropreneur" from that Craig Brown article keeps jumping into my head.

Andylion · 27/03/2020 23:40

They’re probably pleased to leave Vancouver Island with its one road and Canadian President who won’t pay for their security.

thenightsky · 27/03/2020 23:49

RosesandIris Yes, I was wondering where that went.

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 23:56

She seees herself as an (instagram) influencer. The writing was always on the (Instagram) wall. She started The Tig whilst in Suits. She frequently came to the UK to make connections and to get interviews. She hustled for the high society connections and notoriety.

philanthropreneur Is a good term.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 28/03/2020 00:00

Side note Re Barry. Well Paris of Troy is pronounced Baris in Greek. Anglicised version of Paris is Barry. And any classicists among you will know that the kingdom of Troy was destroyed because Paris had to have Helen....

DandyPenguin · 28/03/2020 00:00

Thank you @Winterlife I understand now. I know she’ll have always had to pay tax in the US including while here (which I suspect was a reason she moved back). I didn’t know about the Canadian and US tax agreements though. Makes perfect sense.

RosesandIris · 28/03/2020 00:01

She has nothing to offer though. Really nothing. She’s just an ordinary woman who was once in a third rate drama. The only thing that marks her out as different is who she married. She’s been hopeless as a Royal wife.

Ritascornershop · 28/03/2020 00:12

@dandypenguin - sorry for teasing. When I lived in England people would often insist Canada was not a sovereign nation and that their president was ours “yes, but really he is”. We do have a fair amount in common with them, but on politics and healthcare we differ quite substantially, so it’s easy to wind me up on those topics. That and the Island having one road 🇨🇦😤😜
