Arose are you being sarcastic? Strategic importance to the US?

OVienna · 27/03/2020 19:35

And seriously they do actually apply the very rich. Lots of people are in fact happy to get the green cards or some kind of investor visa as the money they will make long term feels with it. He'd probably be able to get that - he has enough cash and could get help to get a business plan together. But there is not a back door, the way you imply, for people who don't have a real commitment to life in the US. Harry may well have this though!

OVienna · 27/03/2020 19:37

Or - they might own a business there but don't spend several months there. This is the thing for Harry. If his son is growing up there, he will want to be with him. Not with him 90 days in the US and a few months on the UK.

ARoseInHarlem · 27/03/2020 19:52

Not sarcastic. It would be a diplomatic incident out of all proportion if Harry weren’t allowed to settle in the US as he pleases. The UK would extend the same courtesy to any of the Trump children (the US will never oblige Andy to attend anything more than the most anodyne and exculpatory interviews, and the UK will never insist that Harry Dunn’s killer stand trial here). It’s diplomacy.

I’m not saying Barry has strategic VALUE. I’m saying he is of strategic importance to US-UK relations. Nothing to do with the man and his qualities; everything to do with being the Queen’s grandson/ future Kings’ son and brother.

HarryDaylight · 27/03/2020 19:57

Oh Gawd it's so depressingly easy to see that Harry will continue to bill the UK for his security and never pay back any of the millions he owes to the UK because it will always be covered by the "diplomatic" umbrella.

Barry GrinGrinGrin

BarleylemonPenguin · 27/03/2020 20:04

Barry - thanks for the laugh. Needed that.

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 20:07

@Andylion I suspect that was me who wrote Canadian President instead of Prime Minister, I did it before. It’s not ignorance, I do know JT’s a PM; I have dyslexia and sometimes get mixed up when thinking of the right word and then the wrong one gets stuck in my brain, especially when it starts with the same letter and has a similar meaning. Sorry!

5LeafPenguin · 27/03/2020 20:08

Barry. Best typo of the extended threads.Grin

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 20:11

Yes love Barry.

StartupRepair · 27/03/2020 20:15

Didn't take long for the loyalty and support for the Commonwealth to wear off. I suspect Canada will manage just fine without them.
I wonder where they will go and who they will blame if LA does not deliver.

HarryDaylight · 27/03/2020 20:32

Flowers to everyone feeling poorly tonight and hope you feel so much better tomorrow xxx

B as I call him??? Grin

ButteryPuffin · 27/03/2020 20:51

Thing is, even if you accept the idea of Barry Grin having strategic value, Trump doesn't deal with these things in the normal presidential way. He is, to put it mildly, unpredictable. Who knows if he'll do the 'done thing' or not?

He might, because he did fawn over the queen herself (albeit in his usual patronising way where it's actually All About Him) and that might extend to other family members. On the other hand, Meghan's on record criticising him, and no one bears a grudge against anyone who's done that more enthusiastically than Trump. So I'm really not sure.

FannyCann · 27/03/2020 20:54

So did they adopt the latest dog in Canada or in LA? Just wondering about the added practicalities of flying dogs around from one country to the next. (On top of everything else obv).

7Penguins · 27/03/2020 20:55

Trump weighed in on Megxit - he said the Queen has been disrespected IIRC. And as you say, he knows how to hold a grudge.
HAM are not on his good side and will not get any preferential treatment.

Andylion · 27/03/2020 21:03

I’m curious what role this Canadian president plays in our parliamentary system? Is he like Trump, but speaking French?

@Ritascornershop the horror!

@DandyPenguin Understood, Thank you.

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 21:09

They’re probably pleased to leave Vancouver Island with its one road and Canadian President who won’t pay for their security. Wink

Winterlife · 27/03/2020 21:22

I think their plan was LA all along. However, it's irresponsible, if not for themselves, then for their staff, to move staff to LA at this time, given it is experiencing far more COVID-19 cases than Vancouver Island.

Re taxes - anyone who is a "resident alien" will pay taxes on worldwide income. However, if that income is taxed elsewhere (the UK), then a tax convention will reduce the tax so that there is not double taxation.

I can't wait for 'H' to sign up for Real Housewives of Beverley Hills.
