Supportive statements re. their Commonwealth patronages are likely to be treated with even more derision, given they've rejected the UK and now Canada in favour of LA.

7Penguins · 30/03/2020 10:00

It also gives them more time in the planning and preparation of what they do next.

I’m not sure they are capable of that. They seem frantic, casting nets in all directions.

They may think they appear like global omnitalented influencers, but that’s not how they come across at all.

LaMarschallin · 30/03/2020 10:01

Ooh, I do go on!

I suppose what I was trying to say was: the point of the royal family isn't glamour and charisma (although nice if a bit is thrown in), it's boring stuff like duty and continuity.

Sadly, those qualities don't give the immediate rewards that people who like instant gratification want/need.

Winterlife

Sure. In your omniscience, you are aware what other posters read. 🙄🙄

Leonardo DiCaprio has been fundraising and donating money to elephant and wildlife charities for years. He donated $625000 to an elephant charity at one event.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 30/03/2020 10:12

Oh dear, oh dear! Apparently "sources" are trying to convince people that Harry and Disney CEO Bob Iger were only joking around when Harry pitched Meghan to him, you see it was a private joke haha!

Oh dear, that's almost more painful than the pitch.

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 10:13

But, I ask you, is Leo a duchess?

LaMarschallin · 30/03/2020 10:13

Excellent!

Really, they've had ages to think*, presumably advice from good PR people and the best they can come up with is that perennial old chestnut: "Hahah! I was only joking!".

My daughters were beyond that from the age of about 13.
Mind you, they were late developers.

*They've had ages, I mean; doesn't mean all that cogitating would actually take ages.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 30/03/2020 10:16

That Hello magazine isn't for the likes of us. It's to reassure the Hollywood moguls they hope to pitch to in the future that they are a valuable commodity worth millions and not a desperate pair of grifters panhandling for coins.

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 10:17

Loving the power of this last sentence. Bam.Grin

And the Kardashians already exist.(LaMarschallin)

ButteryPuffin · 30/03/2020 10:17

Bob Iger's reaction there is absolutely that of a man who is in on the joke. Totally. GrinHmm

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 30/03/2020 10:17

Just to be clear, for the benefit of trigger happy trolls, I'm not saying that that's what they are, but that clumsy pitching might make them look that way.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/03/2020 10:19

The Times article is spot on. My tuppenceworth is that MM had absolutely no intention to stay in the UK. She snared her prince, and had the obligatory quick royal pregnancy. I’m not for a second saying that she doesn’t want or love Archie, but she knows that wherever Archie goes, Barry will follow.

If they later divorced, she will always have that link to the UK crown via Archie, so it keeps her in the spotlight, whereas if they divorced without a child she’d disappear off the radar like snow off a dyke.

She can basically do and go what and where she likes, Barry will follow her because he doesn’t want Archie to have the parental breakup like he had.

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 10:21

Leo? Megs? 🧐

Everyone surely knows who is the real star. She doesn’t come close being as she is an annoying fly buzzing around.

ButteryPuffin · 30/03/2020 10:22

They could do themselves a lot of good now by a show of support for key workers and anyone else fighting coronavirus - i.e. the issue occupying most of the world at the moment. And I don't mean by half hearted 'from across the pond' applause on Instagram. James McAvoy just put a quarter of a million pounds into the fundraiser to buy PPE for health care workers. Camilla has made a statement highlighting the issue of domestic violence during lockdown. It can't be beyond their capabilities to do something to show they are vaguely in touch and able to empathise about the issue.

7Penguins · 30/03/2020 10:23

an annoying fly buzzing around.

Grin

To be fair, a buzzing fly gets a lot of attention. Wink

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 10:24

Leo was Romeo.

Megs ever do Shakespeare - professionally, I mean?
Thought not...

NewBrideToBe · 30/03/2020 10:26

To be fair though Belle neither did Leo.

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 10:28

Didn't several Kardishians donate millions as well to Covid causes?

Yes Bob Igar totally reacts like a man having a joke.

Especially when he says that he'll follow up by email.

And Bob Igar's wife also reacted like a woman hearing a man tell a joke when she asked Bob what he and Harry were talking about and she responded with jokey "surprise". What a hoot they all had!

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 10:32

To be (the narrator of Elephant) or not to be (the narrator of Elephant) that is the question ...

... A question that doesn't take long to answer. Stick on The Duchess tag and Bob Iger's your Disney uncle.

RosesandIris · 30/03/2020 10:33

I am all agog to see what happens with their website before tomorrow. The crown will presumably disappear.

Bob Iger's your Disney uncle.

😂

And The Duchess again. Sounds so daft.

LaMarschallin · 30/03/2020 10:43

BelleharePenguin09

Megs ever do Shakespeare

Can't help imagining....

MM studies text. Sucks pen thoughtfully...
Starts writing additions - beautifully - on text:

"To be royal, or not to be royal, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler...

hmm... "nobler"? Like "The Nobility", right? Means "Royal'. Yeah, that can stay. Needs capitalising though; All Royal Stuff does...

Nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune the British tabloids,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them make our mark felt upon the world stage with our philanthropy, mindfulness and spirituality...

MM looks up. Smiles with satisfaction.

"Hah! Shakespeare Shmakespeare".

(I have far too much time on my hands in lockdown...)

SussexRoyalPenguin · 30/03/2020 11:03

I know a Burbank where the money trees grow.

Where voiceovers and the nodding fawnicators grow.

(Ad nauseum) my Duchess with a monetisation opportunity is in love.

BelleharePenguin09 · 30/03/2020 11:04

Megs could definitely improve the dramatic works.
Lol
