On it like a bonnet FannyCann Grin

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 19:31

OVienna I’m not sure if that’s possible given where the speakers were placed in the Abbey. Also, MM was grinning the whole time.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 29/03/2020 19:35

I've said it before, maybe I'm oldfashioned, and am not religious in the slightest - but there is a certain form of behaviour which is acceptable in church. That is, you dress for the occasion, you are fairly solemn (unless a wedding or the sign of the peace), you listen to the priest and you generally behave. You do NOT dress overflashily, nor gurn, nor keep an eye on where the cameras are to present your best angle.

It's just about basic respect for the institution. And, perhaps also a lack of understanding the spirituality of the church for other people, and not 'getting' that churches (of whatever denomination) have a special atmosphere that most of us respect.

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 19:40

Apparently the Queen’s dress code for the service was red, white & blue, the colours of the Union Jack, and MM ignored it. I’m not sure if that’s true but the other royal women were in red, white or blue and many of the women in the audience were too.

7Penguins · 29/03/2020 19:42

Imagine a life where you have everything you want (and more) and are brother/SIL to the future king, and somehow that isn't enough. Hmm

lyralalala · 29/03/2020 19:44

I'm going to cut her some slack on that one, I think she wasn't sure of the protocol

There’s no way she hadn’t been given the protocol by the Queen’s staffers. She either didn’t listen to them or didn’t care

7Penguins · 29/03/2020 19:45

Oops, topic has moved on since I started typing my previous post 20min ago.

Well it won't be the first time Megs ignores HMQ's dress code instructions. Really poor show.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 29/03/2020 19:48

Oh, now I'm confused. Are we peng-wins or "pen-gwins" as per Juliet Stevenson's narration?

MissEliza · 29/03/2020 19:49

I really don't know why the Queen insisted they come to that church service. Their presence overshadowed the whole thing and caused even more airing of dirty laundry in public.
Can I just say the video of Sophie glaring at MM was so revealing. MM knew she had been caught in the act.

OVienna · 29/03/2020 19:49

That's interesting about the dress code. The afternoon certainly stood out in the green.

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 19:51

I say “pen-gwins”

But “peng-wins” makes me smile as we are indeed peng, innit.

OVienna · 29/03/2020 19:51

She stood out, that should have said.

HarryDaylight · 29/03/2020 19:52

Tv cameras often bring out the worst in people who don't know how to behave naturally in front of them. The rest of the royals appear to be trained to ignore them, and never look directly at the lens. Apart from Harry who glares at them, and so glares at the viewer.
I noticed from the beginning of her relationship with Harry, that Meghan did the opposite. She actively sought them out and zoned in on them. It was especially obvious in multicamera set ups.
I remember remarking to DH when they were at a theatre in the royal box,, that it was unusual, because she of all people should be camera aware.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 29/03/2020 19:52

misseliza I think the invitation was prior to the whole furore really kicked off?

Pen-gwins, but as dandy said we are all indeed well peng on this thread.

DandyPenguin · 29/03/2020 19:55

I don’t know for a fact the dress code is true. But the men also adhered to it (easy for them obviously!) and it makes sense.

When MM was there last year, when pregnant, she was in white (with some black detailing on the pattern, but that didn’t overshadow the white).

LittleBearPad · 29/03/2020 19:55

I really doubt the queen would have come up with something so naff as a red white and blue dress code. It would hardly work for the Commonwealth event to suggest everyone should wear the colours of the Union Jack. Might be construed as a little Imperial?

ajandjjmum · 29/03/2020 19:55

I remember her at the Royal Variety Show Harry - she spotted the camera to the side of her, and started playing with her hair. So bloody affected! Certainly not an actress who is in any way subtle!

HarryDaylight · 29/03/2020 19:57

That was it! The Royal Variety Show!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 29/03/2020 19:58

This is one of several examples of MM working the camera. It's quite a skill, picking up every lens and slightly adjusting her pose so they have plenty of images to choose from. It looks completely wrong when you try to do it as a royal though.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 29/03/2020 20:01

She's an actress, of course she knows how to work a camera! The trouble is, the more you see it, the more you recognise it, and for me at least, the more I dislike it.

MissEliza · 29/03/2020 20:01

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 29/03/2020 20:04

She is absolutely stunning in that short video. No wonder couldn’t believe his luck.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 29/03/2020 20:06

Re her getting in the car first, it looks to me as if she’s directed to the car & then doesn’t know what to do. Awkward but I’m not certain it’s actually her fault.

Am I actually defending Meghan Shock

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 29/03/2020 20:10

Harry's not the first man to suffer a sudden rush of blood from the head.

It has unfortunately left him dizzy and unable to make a sensible decision

5LeafPenguin · 29/03/2020 20:11

Sky news have just reported a tweet from POTUS that USA will not pay for HaM security.
