sweet and humble

Oh yeah.

DateLoaf · 29/03/2020 16:01

Personally I would have 100% respect for H&M if they said, there’s a global pandemic on, we’re going to put our amateur philanthropic plans on hold for the foreseeable- like so many people are having to with their future plans. We will come back and gladly support the Q and RF and W&K who are doing a great job of leading the RF’s response to the health crisis so far.

Coronavirus: William and Kate urge nation to look after their mental health

They could absolutely bring Doria to live with them, in fact that sounds like it could be a lovely living arrangement, if understandably they would all prefer to be together at such a time. Harry could restart active military work or support his service personnel charities and HIV charities (who will have a lot to pass on to us about how communities can respond to and survive health emergencies).

They could both support young people via the Princes’ trust. They could also look to support international development and wildlife causes after the dust settles on the immediate emergency.

Meghan could support women via Camilla’s DV work. She could support Kate with her early years work. Harry and Meghan both could be NHS volunteers and do phone bank work like thousands of others have signed up for. There is still a role for them, with some limited autonomy in it, as there always has been if they want to take it. They would also be loved for that, if that is what they both need to feel.

The pandemic has ruined their chance of gaining world attention as philanthropists or oligarchy type celebrities or whatever it is they are aiming for. We will all be in global financial uncharted waters after this crisis stage passes. On the other side of this for a long time we will be focused on just surviving- financially, culturally, and keeping focused on solidarity and community.

Nobody will want to see any hint of anyone in power taking the piss with public money. We won’t be fawning over gross conspicuous celebrity consumption. Nor will we want to be expected to listen to empty cliche platitudes from those who spout them without helping others. None of the mood music coming out from LA at the moment is a good fit with any of that.

The UK’s attention in any national crisis does seem to turn to the RF and it will be interesting to see how as a family they will deal with the current absence of H&M and also the request to question Prince Andrew, as time goes on.

I think W&K are doing a grand job of leading the family response at the moment. if i was advising Andrew and the RF I would suggest that they proactively show cooperation with the US authorities now, they could question him remotely. Whatever the outcome of that investigation turns out to be: it would be less big news than Coronavirus is. and then the RF would know they have done the right thing and cooperated.

Andrew’s daughter’s wedding is postponed anyway, so there won’t be any big set piece media dramas over his cooperation, so in fact there couldn’t be a better time for them to do the right thing.

The pandemic crisis and disruption gives the individual members of the RF the opportunity to create a clean slate, or to make good, or to pay their dues (Andrew), if they wanted to take it as such.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 29/03/2020 16:05

William and Kate haven't insulted the Queen, run away from their life, taken millions of taxpayers pounds and lied about repayment of that money. They haven't expected to be paid by the British taxpayers for doing fuck all.
Your statement that W&K are doing the same as Harry and Meghan and not being criticised is risible.
I can't really see any comparison with Harry and Meghan.

BelleharePenguin09 · 29/03/2020 16:06

The pandemic has scuppered their pathetic aspirations. Ha bloody ha.

wufti · 29/03/2020 16:08

DateLoaf
spot on. the problem is, Meghan didn't want to be in a supporting role, she wanted to be the big star.

HarryDaylight · 29/03/2020 16:10

wufti
That was my first thought as well!

In case of any doubt.
Great post @DateLoaf and all very true.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, nobody is obliged present evidence to back up their opinions. It's a waste of everybody's time demanding that they do. No-one (at least not regular posters) is saying anything for the sake of it. We have arrived at our opinions from what we have seen, heard, read and experienced.

Calm the fuck down.

Great post, DateLoaf

It’s getting almost poetic on here Grin

Wheresthebeach · 29/03/2020 16:33

Agree @wufti MM wanted to be equal in all things to W&K if not bigger. Protocol constantly reminded her that that wasn’t the case. This was the mother of all popularity contests to her.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 29/03/2020 16:40

Excellent DateLoaf

Meghan - humble. That’s not the first word that would come to mind.

Gutted I missed your comment WinterLife

Mummy195 · 29/03/2020 16:46

DateLoaf

That is a considered post.

I was wondering though. H&M under the SR banner already have a lot of their own charities which also need help. I am not sure about what will happen from the 31st onwards, but from current reports, they are still helping those charities as per their duty. They would not have to be in the UK per se to do that, since they would have had to isolate anyway, so no face to face meetings, visits etc.
Doria is an independent woman in her 60s, so not really sure how she would feel about being dragged around everywhere.

No doubt, there is a lot we don't know about what is happening within the RF. I remember in particular that journalist Kevin McGuire saying that on top of the media and troll pile on, something more significant happened within the RF, and that for legal reasons it could not be discussed publicly at this stage. Taking that on with when H said, if you knew what I know.............it all makes me wonder.

Judging by things from since they moved to Canada, my suspicions are that the BM has vilified them so much, they were probably hoping for a low media profile for a few months. I guess that is why the JP Morgan thing was not photographed, why their comings and goings are not really known. Ofcourse they are still SR for now, so a lot of the engagements would have to go on the RR. Except for this farewell weekend, I think MM was only formally seen at Canada House. The SR website would still need to address issues at this point.

So yes, very curious what will happen after.

Hamsterian · 29/03/2020 17:04

“Sweet and humble”? Please. Also I don’t believe for one moment she has been in touch with this charity to send more ideas since she has moved away. Maybe some sort of PR, placeholder email - that I can believe.
That clip from the church just shows how she is always acting, even in real life.
I watched the Youtube where she literally gushes about herself as an 11 year old for four minutes. It’s me,me,me,my impact. And lots of cringey pauses with bambi eye contact to the audience. I don’t understand how people say she is a good public speaker, yes she can deliver a speech but there is nothing natural about the way she does it and also the content itself is always flowery and meaningless.

RosesandIris · 29/03/2020 17:06

I sometimes wonder how she doesn't tire of herself. All that fakery and simpering . It's exhausting to watch, it must be tiring to keep it up.

Mummy195 You were played, by an actress.

chrisseldah1 · 29/03/2020 17:18

11 year old Meghan’s speech made the cut🤣. Gosh would hate any speech my 11 year old daughter uses to be dragged up to assail her character as an adult.

chrisseldah1 · 29/03/2020 17:21

I mostly enjoy these RF threads from a distance, truly curious as to how the security costs are going to be covered and by whom. It’s funny though when the discussion always goes back to Meghan and her fake ness, etc.

wufti · 29/03/2020 17:31

I can live with some fakeness. She puts on a good show and the RF has perhaps upped their game to match.

but hypocrisy - security costs, wanting a quiet life, surviving not thriving, baby showers, private jets - is what most people dislike about H&M. Leaving the RF was always about making megabucks from being a member of the RF. They are always VERY keen to stress they are still HRH, that Harry is 6th in line, that they are internationally protected people …..

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 29/03/2020 17:32

I agree with you Mummy195 about Doria.

She has her own established life in LA which I can't see her wanting to give up. Add to this that she was apparently comfortable being absent during Meghan's teens, which suggests that whatever their relationship, it doesn't suffer from them being apart.

mrscampbellblackagain · 29/03/2020 17:33

I really don't think the RF vilified H&M at all. They seem to have bent over backwards to help them - Meghan got stuff Kate didn't, eg invited for Christmas before she was actually married.

But this is all very bad timing for H&M branching out. Messages on Instagram can only go so far really. It is a very fine line at the moment with lots of celebs as to is actually being helpful and entertaining and the ones who you want to just shut up.

mrscampbellblackagain · 29/03/2020 17:35

I follow an insta account that some of you may do called somanythoughts. She was storying Kate and William's wedding last night and I actually felt really sad to see how obviously close Harry and William were at that to how things are now.

Whatever has happened between them - the outcome is sad.

Hamsterian · 29/03/2020 17:38

@chrisseldah1 I was talking about the speech she made about herself as an 11 year old, not the one she did when she was actually 11 years old

TimeLady · 29/03/2020 17:41

The bill for their security, which includes a roster of nine highly skilled British officers shuttling between the UK and US, is estimated to be as much as £8 million a year and is covered by British taxpayers through the Metropolitan Police budget. They also received support from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

A poll for Good Morning Britain show suggested that more than 90 per cent of the public believed Harry and Meghan should foot the bill themselves – and that was before the couple jetted to LA.
