Let’s strive to keep on topic and not engage with posts designed to disrupt.

The only thing I care about in all of this and will be following for developments is the cost of the security.

Fair enough we pay for it when they’re here. But It’s totally outrageous that taxpayers are paying for their overseas security and they’re putting that huge strain on the Met.

For them not to have offered to split the cost in any way tells me all I need to know about their priorities and respect (or lack of) of the citizens of the country they’re abandoning, however justified their reason for leaving.

I’m furious that the Queen has allowed this and very pleased to see MPs speaking up about it. I hope the decision changes.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/02/2020 16:00

You could think they've been disrespectful, don't deserve a penny and explain it without any racism, misogyny or spite

Indeed, but sadly there remains a type of mindset - and certainly not just on here - for whom any criticism's unthinkable, no matter how thoughtful or well put. It appears that one of the worst, constantly deleted derailers has been banned now, but still the accusations continue even when there's clearly little need for them

That said, I've just had the appalling realisation that nobody on Mumsnet has ever called me racist ... I don't know whether to feel pleased or excluded Confused

Bluntness100 · 27/02/2020 16:05

Dandy, I think that’s good point, if they had offered to split the cost, pay for the increase, people would have been more forgiving.

Sunshineand · 27/02/2020 16:06

Who has critiqued her figure? She, like every other woman on the planet, has a particular body type. For some reason, she’s chosen to ignore that in making clothing choices.

LOL @Winterlife
I'm sure you look like a supermodel 🤣

rockingchaircandle · 27/02/2020 16:06

I've challenged posts clearly if you mean me puzzled? I've been clear what I've found problematic and acted within the guidelines.

Can you please leave the racism stuff alone though? It can lead to people feeling excluded, for real, it's happened from these threads and it's just not funny.

PelicanPie · 27/02/2020 16:08

Those photos are great. That’s Harry at his best. Such a waste that he won’t be doing those things any longer. I think he always looks much happier and more relaxed when he’s doing these things without Meghan. When they’re together they cling to each other all the time and he looks miserable.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/02/2020 16:09

It might be more helpful if we had an updated version of the talk guidelines

That's actually not a bad idea, Froq. Last night we were told that "persistent derailers" would be taken down rather than whole threads, yet today there's a note that this one might go because a number of deletions have caused HQ to "hover over the delete button"

Obviously it's their forum and their decision to make, but I just wonder if some clarification might be useful?

HarryDaylight · 27/02/2020 16:14

Funnily enough, I've just been reading the talk guidlines, as I've noticed some blatant rudeness and in my humble opinion, goady remarks , that appear to go unchallanged by MNHQ.

Sunshineand · 27/02/2020 16:15

Why is everyone so obsessed with harry and Meghan and particularly with slagging them off? It's weird and pointless and some people seem totally obsessed with them to the point of derangement. Am I missing something?

I know...Ive been reading this thread in absolute morbid curiosity of people spending hours of their lives obsessing over them. I mean, do any of you actually work or have children to look after? Hopefully not. The person talking about their menopausal belly made me think wow, a middle-aged woman doing this?! It's fascinating.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/02/2020 16:15

No, I didn't mean you personally, rockingchaircandle. Generally I'll tag a poster's name if I wish to address them, but otherwise I try to stick to principles - or at least just posts - rather than personalities

I believe HQ call it playing the ball rather than the person ...

DeRigueurMortis · 27/02/2020 16:16

I'm just going back to a point re: "just call me Harry" vs. all the Royal "mentions" on the website.

To be fair, the Palace's decision to stop them using the "Sussex Royal" brand is fairly recent (though I would have thought predicable to anyone outside of the H&M bubble).

We don't know what finally made H&M agree to this concession, but we do know that the Palace had a number of "bargaining chips":

  • access to the Duchy funding;
  • constitutional law;
  • the option to remove all titles including (the not to be used) HRH.

Now that's been conceded by H&M their brand/marketing/website is playing catch up.

They obviously didn't foresee this outcome and made no contingency for it - thus I think we will have a while where they change PR tactics ("call me Harry") that don't reflect the content they've made public to date.

I think we will see a massive redesign of the website and re-branding and if H's statement is anything to go by it will be a shift towards them being important in their own right rather than royal credentials (though ironically those credentials are the only reason why anyone knows who "just Harry" is). It also has the added benefit of a not so subtle dig at the Palace for not letting them be "Royal".

Time will tell....

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 27/02/2020 16:19

You all just need to keep on topic. Talk about guidelines, goading posters, etc just make this thread more likely to get deleted. If you don’t agree with something don’t engage just keep on topic and ignore baiting if you think that is what someone is doing. I know it’s hard but we teach our kids to ignore mischief makers so maybe we should do the same.

PelicanPie · 27/02/2020 16:20

Agree all I want.
Just keep on track and leave the buns alone.

Tough. They can whine all they like, or use another of their “strategies” but the fact remains: they have given up the right to use the Royal prefix.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 27/02/2020 16:40

Off topic but I love this

Fair point, alliwant Smile

I agree this is possible but was surprised, among all the negative comments on Instagram, to see a sudden influx of posts of a completely different style to earlier, positive ones - they're all rows and rows of emojis which didn't seem to happen before

It's almost as if a completely new contingent of posters have arrived on there, and I just wondered why that was

Harry risks leaving the family on even worse terms after diary clash

Dickie Arbiter, a former press secretary, said it was not a surprise. “For the last two years they have been clashing. People are not talking to each other. We used to have communication between all the households, so there weren’t clashes,” he said.

I don’t think it is deliberate [by Harry and Meghan]. It is a desire to do things their way, without telling anybody else what they are doing until they do it.

That last bit sounds like their approach to this entire mess so far: ‘hey we’re going part time, keeping the security and helping Liz out now and then BYEEE’

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 27/02/2020 17:15

Doesn’t Harry attend the Endeavour Awards every year?

A quick google shows that he and Meghan attended the last two years. In fact, correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the first year when Kate was heavily pregnant and they were overseas in Sweden and Norway. I don’t think there should be an issue of them all being out at the same time.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/02/2020 17:21

Re: the diary clash tbh I say let them have their last hurrah.

W&K will still get lots of publicity and that will continue into the future.

As for H&M, as I've previously posted I think they have massively over estimated the size and longevity of their influence as private individuals.

Yes they may be in demand now, largely due to their notoriety, but a few years down the line they'll just be another middle aged couple on the speaking circuit who lack the money, life experience and gravitas to mix in the circles they aspire to - circles they only came into contact with due to a Royal status they have chosen to forgo.

It's a shame because I truly believe if they had stuck it out, they could have been a very positive force for good and change wrt their Commonwealth roles.

Froq · 27/02/2020 17:23

It sounds like the point is a lack of communication between the two camps, not so much the diary clash itself.

It might work to their advantage, fewer reporters maybe?

Froq · 27/02/2020 17:26

Canada will not pay for Prince Harry and Meghan's security after March

www.cbc.ca/news/politics/harry-meghan-security-costs-rcmp-canada-1.5478022

The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status.

Yet the UK has to continue?

Winterlife · 27/02/2020 17:50

Canada was providing security to a working royal. That ceases March 31.

I don’t know what obligations the U.K. has to a member of the RF who is no longer a working royal.

Ritascornershop · 27/02/2020 17:51

Thank goodness for that! I think most of us in Canada were not thrilled to be lumbered with the cost. Perhaps it is because they are moving to the US? The flight from LA to London is 1 hour longer than from Vancouver - I wouldn’t fancy a 10 hour flight every few weeks. Perhaps after March they’ll not fly quite as much. Even if I was lucky enough to fly first class I’d find it wearing.

Ritascornershop · 27/02/2020 17:52

Ah, that makes sense Winterlife. Not that they were doing anything for us while they’ve been here (I’m in BC).

7Worfs · 27/02/2020 17:52

Agreed, DeRig

I’m back, so did we find out if the Just Meghan online shop was an elaborate parody? 😏
