I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

RethpoDad

What happened to the other thread? I watch Ben Fogle then bam 💥

Certainly happens to me when I watch Ben Fogle.

Possibly for different reasons though Blush

Just like some people obviously want the marriage to fail, which is horrible.

I find that absolutely dreadful I must say.

However it’s an interesting insight into what might be motivating the nastiness.

Encyclo · 25/02/2020 22:29

He might not be dreading it at all, thinking all is fine. We don't know. I expect he just wants it all over with to get on with his new life.

Intense media scrutiny drove him away in the first place, I think he's dreading it

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:30

Pinkpeone: He was such a popular prince a couple of years ago and it would be horrible for him to have a different reception and having to process that. He's given up so much. Yes, you got it right, he has given up a lot. It has all happened so quickly, the change in his popularity.

rockingchaircandle · 25/02/2020 22:36

I do like the positivity on this thread

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:37

I find it strange that they didn't realise that they'll always get intense media coverage wherever they go if they plan, as they do, on being public figures. It just seems they've swapped one country for another but taken the problem with them.

Encyclo · 25/02/2020 22:38

Harry is still popular. According to Yougov he ranks fourth.

Many people are happy for them, can make up their own minds and don't take their views directly from MSM.

bluebell34567 · 25/02/2020 22:39

nice to see you here annielouise Grin

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/02/2020 22:40

But the media climate is different in North America. We don't have the kind of tabloid culture that exists in the UK.

bluebell34567 · 25/02/2020 22:40

i forgot to make bold
nice to see you here annielouise Grin

bluebell34567 · 25/02/2020 22:41

i missed all the people Grin

I wonder if they could have 'retired' quietly from public life in the UK, which might have lessened to intense media scrutiny. I think one of the Queen's cousins did - was it the wife of the Duke of Kent? She became a music teacher I believe but obviously wasn't in the public eye as much as H is now but in time they would have be left in more peace. The problem is they didn't want to retire from public life completely so I don't know how they'll control the press, especially the press outside of the UK.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 22:42

Well he has landed in Scotland

Cerseirys · 25/02/2020 22:43

Indeed @SenecaFallsRedux. And no one takes the likes of The National Enquirer seriously.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:45

Oh hi, bluebell Smile

Encyclo · 25/02/2020 22:45

I don't think they wanted to retire and sit around in a random Palace eating bonbons

Based on the charities they support I believe they want to do some good I t the world.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 22:46

So how does it work when they travel by regular planes? Obviously first class but do they book off all the seats round them too or can Joe public be sitting nearby? Same with the train, I know the Queen gets a whole carriage but would they just be on the train?

He's had a long day if he flew into London then got the train up to Edinburgh station. That's quite a slow train when I've looked to book previously.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 22:48

And how many protection officers do they have I wonder separating them from Joe Public on the train / plane.

It seems weird (but right) for him no be flying commercial airlines and must be a security risk.

Encyclo · 25/02/2020 22:52

My friend flew back from NYC two rows behind them a few years ago. He sent us a surreptitious pic of them both. He was two rows back in business I think.

FelicityFebruary · 25/02/2020 22:53

The Duchess of Kent certainly didn't retire to sit in a palace eating bonbons.

She was quite prominent at one time. She "did" Wimbledon for years and famously hugged Jana Novotna.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 22:53

Look at the pic in the link I posted and see if you can spot the goon(s).

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:54

I think they book out a few rows, Shoe. Probably take First Class on the train, perhaps they book that out too, or a section of it, but not sure how big First Class is.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:55

Although I think W has been photographed on low-cost airlines before where there isn't really a first class.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 22:57

oh, yes, you're right february, just reading about Katharine, Duchess of Kent now. For some reason I remember the bit about her becoming a music teacher at a primary school but it was much later in her life.
