I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

Is there four protection officers in that Mirror photo? The two behind him look like protection officers, not 100% sure of the two infront.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 25/02/2020 22:59

Harry and William have flown budget before.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 22:59

They must hate travelling commercially. And it's a long journey on the train day from the Gatwick Express. Shows perhaps they are listening to public opinion to have done the plane / train.

Although they could have flown into Bhx perhaps. Still not the most comfortable journey for one used to having such convenience.

MissEliza · 25/02/2020 23:00

@Skierrdery Waverley is the train station in Edinburgh. International flights do go to Edinburgh airport. It's not a backwater. However I believe transatlantic flights only go to Glasgow airport.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:01

Yes, H is still 4th most popular right now, Enclyco. Wonder if he still will be with a 63% popularity rating in the next survey though. All this business in the media might not have helped. We shall see though. They've all gone through ups and downs on that front - none more so than his dad, PC.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 25/02/2020 23:01

It's just over 5 hours Kings Cross to Waverley.

FelicityFebruary · 25/02/2020 23:03

I did read that she was recently working with kids from the Grenfell Tower area annielouise, but only on a fan blog thing, couldn't see anything else online.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 23:05

Imagine getting on a Ryan Air flight and sitting next to the future king of England!

We live near Stansted and have had RAF fighter planes going supersonic this last year (massive boom!) to escort a budget airline plane down due to rowdy passengers, mistakenly thought to be terrorists. No they were just drunk and the whole exercise cost over half a million pounds!

I would have thought that's a risk too much.

Generally any foreign presidents / prime ministers etc fly to Stansted as it's the safest runway and capable of handling emergencies the best.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 25/02/2020 23:07

Pretty sure transatlantic flights go in and out of Edinburgh.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 23:08

I think all 4 were his too.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 23:09

He's in Edinburgh tomorrow for something or another.

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2020 23:10

To answer the question in the OP - yes, I'm enjoying a thread where we can be happy for Harry and Meghan.

I'm not a Royalist and would happily see the whole shebang dismantled, but she attracted me from the start with her fizz and feist and that dazzling prettiness - I thought she might bring a bit of modernity to that creaky old institution - and I admire Harry for taking his wife and baby away from the disappointing and frankly unpleasant attitudes she's had to face.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 23:10

They wouldn't be allowed to get that close to him if they weren't.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:10

Encyclo: Based on the charities they support I believe they want to do some good I t the world.

Let's hope so. Funding is the issue though. They've now got to find a way to be financially independent in such a way that isn't a conflict of interest with charitable pursuits. Time might also be a pressing matter - becoming financially independent might take up a lot of time, especially if they were to take on some of their security costs.

There seems to have been some confusion about what charity work they'll do. I for some reason thought it a foundation, now it seems not. I should imagine a foundation in terms of time and money will absorb a lot so perhaps that's why that's changed, if it has. So what form will these charity works take? Shining the odd light on things? Something that doesn't take too much commitment in terms of time? It'll be interesting to see. They do seem to have had a lot of criticism about the JP Morgan thing though. Can they carry on doing that kind of thing and still be respected for any charity work they do, I wonder.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 23:13

But the point is, he got the train from A? airport so that's either because he had no one to pick him up in a 4x4 or he is listening to what people are saying re his travel arrangements and the environmental impact.

Wonder if he hailed a cab from the station!!!! Or maybe the night bus or maybe even walked Grin

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:14

I read about that Shoe and saw a video. Scary stuff. I think the woman that cause the problem has gone to prison? There have a been a few different incidents on planes recently.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:18

I think he must be listening. I don't think he can't afford attracting any more criticism right now over private flights. I hope so anyway. It did look bad. It's one thing taking private flights if you don't talk to others about the environment and be seen as lecturing, it's another taking a private flight and being perceived as lecturing as it opens you up to being a hypocrite. Hopefully he's learnt his lesson on that, especially if he wants to be taken seriously.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 23:26

@annielouise it was certainly loud, we thought an earthquake.

Everyone is just so jumpy on planes these days!

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:35

I hate flying these days, Shoe. The whole rigmarole of it. I do like travel though so needs must. I can see the temptation of going private if you can afford it but if you want to be taken seriously as having a voice regarding environmental issues you can't do it. H&M's security situation will also be bumping up the environmental impact too, which isn't good.

rocking: I do like the positivity on this thread. Positivity is good, yes, when due, realism is good too and of course avoiding "echo chambers" as mentioned many times is important.

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:42

As a child we'd come out of Waverley station and catch a taxi. The front seat next to the driver used to have no door and would be a small area where the suitcases would go. The driver would sometimes let me sit there, exposed to the elements Grin It's a wonder it was allowed. I don't think the small fold-down seat had a seatbelt. Wouldn't be allowed now. I doubt they've even got that type of taxi now. I loved it.

RoseAndRose · 25/02/2020 23:46

"They do seem to have had a lot of criticism about the JP Morgan thing though. Can they carry on doing that kind of thing and still be respected for any charity work they do"

JP Morgan was Epstein-linked. They could have chosen better (I'm assuming they have plenty to choose from).

annielouise · 25/02/2020 23:49

Was it Epstein linked? I didn't know that.

Shoeshelpplease · 25/02/2020 23:49

But there isn't a direct link between Edinburgh airport and the station without a train and tram.

Now that's a lot of public transport at a time many people knew he would be in Edinburgh and his image is at an all time low / profile high.

I just wonder he is taking security risks too far in the light of all the scrutiny.

My understanding is celebs and commercial flights. They are first out the plane and normally whisked through a separate exit to a waiting car.

They don't start getting on buses, trams, trains etc.
