Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan? Thread 2

I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

@Mummy195 why don’t you set up your own thread comparing the treatment of Meghan v Kate instead of shoe-horning it into other threads? You could even specify it’s to be “pro-Meghan only” if you don’t want your opinions challenged.

I think that's a good idea.

I've followed this thread but have been very careful not to post anything negative re H&M on it, in deference to the thread title (and if anyone has noticed - which I very much doubt as I'm an occasional poster and not very interesting - I'm what you may call "H&M Sceptic").

I feel this because so much of this thread has been taken up with squabbles between pro's and anti's; observing and reporting back on what the "Nasty Thread" has said, and posts saying "Well, Other People did it so it's fine!", that there's been very little actual happiness for H&M.

This thread has grown relatively slowly, compared with the 21plus (lost track of numbers, sorry) of the other thread, suggesting that maybe fewer people are happy for H&M?
This thread grew rapidly when the other thread was closed down. And is now a bit slow again.

So - yes! Start a thread exclusively for those who think H&M are doing the right thing.
And, hopefully, there'll be multiple joyful threads about them following on.

If that's what everybody out there feels.

Roussette · 01/03/2020 19:22

I think what you are suggesting is what we are doing to be honest! AFAIC this thread is for people who think H&M are doing the right thing. The first thread of this title was continual posts saying 'I don't blame them' and 'good luck to them'

Yes, the thread grew rapidly when one of the other ones was closed down, but it wasn't posters who were happy for them was it? I'm not worried about slow, personally!

I know! Which is why I haven't said anything anti them here (even when asked to).

No - quite.

I'm just wondering where all the happy-for-them posters are (as opposed to just arguing with those who think they're doing the wrong thing).

I would suggest somebody set up an AIBU thread with voting to see what people think, but it would be closed down before the first 50 posts Smile

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 01/03/2020 19:34

Start a thread exclusively for those who think H&M are doing the right thing.

I thought that that was what this thread was supposed to be about?

Roussette · 01/03/2020 19:36

Probably would be closed down!

I think it is like anything. If you don't like it, feel strongly about it, are irritated about it... whatever 'it' is... you are more likely to post.

If you are fairly OK with that subject, really don't mind, or are positive, you are not so likely to post.

I don't think we can take number of posters as a measure of who finds what H&M do OK, and who doesn't, as far as general public Smile

Roussette · 01/03/2020 19:37

SetPhasers

It is indeed.

PortiaCastis · 01/03/2020 19:37

This thread is for those of us who are happy that H&M are getting away from the circus

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/03/2020 19:39

This thread has grown relatively slowly, compared with the 21plus (lost track of numbers, sorry) of the other thread, suggesting that maybe fewer people are happy for H&M?

I think it just as likely that the negative posters are more intent on perpetuating the negativity. Many of those threads are the same people saying the same things over and over.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 01/03/2020 19:40

That's what I thought. I stayed away when the arguing started.

Also I'm enjoying the posts from Mummy195.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 01/03/2020 19:44

The other threads aren't particularly negative, if you actually read them rather than make assumptions about them. The shitty post sets are roundly condemned by the regulars - not so different to exchanges here

There were 20 in the original series, and there are now 2 in the new one.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 01/03/2020 19:46

And they're popular and vigorous in part because of all the little diversions into other Royal info and trivia.

Tiara, anyone? Crown

I'm sorry, but this thread seems to me to be also peopled by the same people saying the same things over and over.

Just fewer of them.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/03/2020 19:51

I've read them all. The early ones in particular are full of vitriol and also mocking styles of posting: are you OK?, talking about "thriving" in a mocking way, and links to all sorts of other nastiness.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/03/2020 19:53

One of the reasons that some of us have been repeating ourselves is that after the numbered threads got shut down, a few of their regulars migrated over here to continue the discussion.

SenecaFallsRedux

One of the reasons that some of us have been repeating ourselves is that after the numbered threads got shut down, a few of their regulars migrated over here to continue the discussion.

So, would this thread have grown even more slowly without those discussions?

Or did those posters somehow block the new positive posts that would have been made otherwise?

I'm going to stop posting on this thread for a while now because otherwise I'm breaking my own rule of trying to keep to the spirit of the thread title.

So!
Positively speaking!

AFAIK, at least Harry hasn't inflicted his singing on us Smile

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:31

The other threads aren't particularly negative

Yeah Hmm

suggesting that maybe fewer people are happy for H&M?

Negativity tends to evoke more obsessive behaviour

Samcro · 01/03/2020 20:33

Who is starting the new thread?

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:33

I'm not sure exactly what the point is in Meghan returning to the UK at all?

Because she has committed to engagements and she’s honouring that commitment.

It would be great if the media laid the fuck off her though, just this once.

Encyclo · 01/03/2020 20:36

Has Davecoaches left us then?

Any of us can do it in her absence.

DandyAF · 01/03/2020 20:50

Negativity tends to evoke more obsessive behaviour

It does indeed. You and others certainly seem obsessed with monitoring the other threads then trashing them here. Why, as mentioned before, there’s even Reddit threads set up to slag off posters from the other threads, with comments by a few people who were banned by MN but have set up new accounts using VPNs .

Not that any of you on here are involved in this Reddit business. Smile

LaurieMarlow · 01/03/2020 20:55

I haven’t been near the other threads in a while. They were certainly vile when I paid attention to them. I can only hope for everyone’s sake they’re better.

Not that any of you on here are involved in this Reddit business.

Personally I’m not on Reddit. Nothing to do with me mate.

Samcro · 01/03/2020 20:58

The other thread was really interesting yesterday, lots of chat about titles, i learnt lots.

DandyAF · 01/03/2020 20:59

I’m sure it’s not to do with you Laurie. But I hope you agree it’s obsessive behaviour. And vile.

You can ask Seneca if the last thread was vile. She was possibly on it more than me. We tend to run a broad church over there.
