Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan? Thread 2

I wimped out of the other thread title I planned as I thought it might look goady.

But please let’s keep it as the reality-and-let's-avoid-idle-speculation-and-reliance-on-dodgy-sources thread (thanks Seneca!).

@SenecaFallsRedux so what if the coverage in the US is positive? Harry has never been asked to represent the US and to my knowledge, American taxpayers don't have to pay for him and his family. It's easy for Americans to feel positive about him and his wife.

That's Jessica again, isn't it? She seems to do everything else. Don't know when she sleeps!Wink

I guess it matters to them if they want to build a global brand?

ThroughTheRoses · 26/02/2020 23:39

No idea who runs it Buttery, just pointing out the disconnect between Harry and his PR machine.

rockingchaircandle · 26/02/2020 23:46

we shall have to wait and see this seems very good advice, a lot of the harm comes from the drive for constant speculation I think. I'm sure they're working on their insta, lots of details to work through probably rather than a disconnect to worry about. Given the title of the thread, it seems clear why people would be glad they got positive coverage- they're happy for Harry Smile

ThroughTheRoses · 26/02/2020 23:52

Just offering a different perspective. Wouldn't want this to become an echo chamber would we?

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/02/2020 01:34

so what if the coverage in the US is positive

I was just passing along information that I thought some people on this thread might find interesting. I'm American. I consume American media. There is a lot of interest in the US because Meghan is American.

Roussette · 27/02/2020 06:07

Yes I’m not getting the ‘happy for Harry and Meghan’ vibes I’d hoped for from this thread.

Just bickering so far.

There's a reason for that but I'm far too polite to say....

Anyway I'm glad Harry has popped over and his travel initiative is being well received. I'm happy and no bickering from me.

Roussette · 27/02/2020 06:08

Seneca

Glad to hear about the positivity in the US Smile

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 27/02/2020 06:55

I would actually be okay with that. It's kind the reason I joined this, and the previous, thread. We are surrounded by negativity in the media and numerous threads on here, so a thread of positivity seemed like a great idea.

I'm happy for them and really do wish them well.

Cerseirys · 27/02/2020 07:41

What's the issue with the IG posts? Harry is referred to as the Duke of Sussex (without an HRH) which is his title. He isn't giving up the title, just the HRH. It's how any titled person would get referred to, regardless of whether they say "call me XYZ" in person.

Butterymuffin · 27/02/2020 07:53

Well, they could choose to refer to themselves as 'Harry and Meghan' if they wished. The wording of the Instagram is up to them.

Cerseirys · 27/02/2020 07:57

Up to them I suppose but really not something to get worked up over. Plus there's the SEO factor to consider - "Harry" is too general, "Duke of Sussex" is specific.

RancidOldHag · 27/02/2020 08:04

What does SEO stand for?

I thought his visit has been unexceptional so far

Cerseirys · 27/02/2020 08:11

Search engine optimisation.

Butterymuffin · 27/02/2020 08:13

Search Engine Optimisation. True, but you could still include the words in the site but refer to yourself as Harry in the body of the text to get the effect, I would think? But I'm not an expert.

No one's worked up. Just commenting with interest. And happy! Smile

RancidOldHag · 27/02/2020 08:16

Thanks!

Cerseirys · 27/02/2020 08:42

I think it works slightly differently on IG @Butterymuffin.

LaMarschallin · 27/02/2020 09:18

Pleased to have discovered what SEO means. Somebody mentioned it when asked about their job on Pointless.
Alexander Armstrong sort of glazed over and immediately asked about their hobbies so DH and I were no wiser.

Sorry to veer off topic (but the queen is rumoured to watch Pointless).

FelicityFebruary · 27/02/2020 09:22

Pity H and M is taken.

I think I will refer to the pair as Hennes and Mauritz in future!

peridito · 27/02/2020 09:24

I don't think you need to worry too much about veering off topic LaM .this thread seems to tolerate a fair bit of meandering .And there's not much to say about H&M .

It all seems much more peaceful on here I'm glad to say .

Precisely.

peridito · 27/02/2020 10:03

Seneca I was glad to hear that the US coverage is positive ,great to hear good reportage of the couple .The constant sniping in some parts of the media gets tedious and depressing .

It's almost as if pleasure is derived in trying to find fault .

Samcro · 27/02/2020 11:02

i always wonder how many people in rl care. even on MN there are only really the same people talking about them.
maybe they are not really hated, and most people just wish them well.

Butterymuffin · 27/02/2020 11:05

maybe they are not really hated, and most people just wish them well.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle for most people - they don't hate them, they are broadly well disposed towards them, but don't want to pay for them at a huge cost to do what they want. That is the sticking point for many.
