Well here we are, another thread for those who wish to discuss. We are not nasty, but we do call account on what is going on, and and what taxpayers pay for.

OP posts:
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/02/2020 13:28

You're quite right, yolo. My job was connected to but not in the charitable sector and I was constantly humbled by the selflessness of some of the people I met and the amazing work they did. The trouble is, it doesn't look that inviting on paper.

TheNavigator · 10/02/2020 13:34

To claim that H&M and W&Ks activities are the same is ridiculous

How is it so ridiculous? William isn't doing it for the good of his health, you know, it is to maintain his ridiculously over privileged lifestyle. I do not get this deference to the royals, it is entirely illogical.

ajandjjmum · 10/02/2020 14:11

But he isn't being paid up to $1million for his presence!

If you can't see the difference, then I wonder........

7salmonswimming · 10/02/2020 14:21

Isn't this just the essence of the problem? They have big notions of changing the world and being known as great philanthropists and change makers but they expect to do it at others' expense whilst picking up all the credit.

It’s worse than that. The JP Morgan gig, if we are to believe what’s written, was British, Canadian and US taxpayers paying for their security, JP Morgan paying them a $1m+ fee, and the so-called philanthropists in the audience maybe giving something at some point to whichever tax break suits them best.

Look at it like this: the fee that JP Morgan paid and the money that the audience members could give to worthy causes (eg the impoverished community members MM stood amongst whilst saying she wants to thrive and not just live) instead went to H&M’s pockets, on paying for a private jet and on security for them.

Nobody has DEFINITELY benefited from the event, other than JPM (kudos) and H&M (hard cash).

It’s mercenary and immoral and hypocritical - by THEIR OWN standards, never mind anyone else’s.

It’s actually even more worse than that Wink

The JP Morgan event they intended did NOT have a philanthropy focus. It’s been confused in the media with a separate event held the next day, guest hosted by an organisation at the JP Morgan conference. The event they spoke at was about alternative investments.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 10/02/2020 15:35

That’s disgusting

DandyDuchess · 10/02/2020 15:50

Yes. Harry spoke after dinner at JP Morgan’s Alternative Investment summit, which is a wealth summit. Gayle King hosted that dinner. She also then hosted an event by the Reform Alliance (a charity) at the JP Morgan the next day, to discuss charitable endeavours, but that was separate to the dinner and Haitch & M were not at that.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/02/2020 16:31

What I'm hoping is that the money from these events is being put aside for their charitable entity. That they are taking nothing from it at all and instead are surviving, indeed thriving, on their own considerable resources (given that they would seem to have very little in the way of expenses at the moment).

At some point the accounts of the charitable entity will be public, and then all will be revealed.

DateLoaf · 10/02/2020 17:09

I think it’s a bit gross that we now have to wonder about how much personally Harry and Meghan are making from their various events, appearances, paparazzi shots or whatever they are posting about on their IG.

We should be able to know when they are making money for their charity projects or not- when they are just being private people.

It’s not how leaders of big charities behave to have this question mark over their speeches and appearances. It’s not transparent and professional unless they are going to issue a big balance sheet listing it all out, but they won’t be doing that will they?

The bottom line is they are not professional charity people. They’re only getting these bookings because of his family background.
It’s blurring boundaries unnecessarily and quite naively.

Can they be already raising money for their new charity or project or whatever it is? I thought they hadn’t said what it is or launched it yet. I’d have imagined they would have said so on their Insta if that’s what they were doing.

7Worfs · 10/02/2020 17:18

The money went into their pockets.
If they’d raised 1mil for charity with a short speech it would have been shouted from the rooftops.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 10/02/2020 17:51

I'm actually getting really angry about this.

yolofish · 10/02/2020 17:57

agreed 7 and sunset. It's just so... tacky.

Did we agree on a new title as new fred will be here soon? I like 'he's not the messiah' but dont want to upset anyone.

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 10/02/2020 18:28

I think the posters unhappy with 'he's not the Messiah' would probably be unhappy with whatever title was chosen tbh yolo.

And yes, they can't really be raising money for a cause they haven't announced yet. Not without looking a bit 'the money was just resting in my account', anyway.

7Worfs · 10/02/2020 18:29

I also liked Dandy’s Spring Is Coming

Or I dunno, Malarkey & Hubris fits after the JPM stint.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 10/02/2020 18:53

I love Malarkey and Hubris!!

yolofish · 10/02/2020 19:00

ooh Marlarkey & Hubris! classic 7 shall I start it or would you like to?

OP posts:
DandyDuchess · 10/02/2020 19:01

I love Malarkey & Hubris too. Fabulous. Star

How about a combo so I can get Spring is Coming before it’s obsolete?

“Spring is Coming for Hubris & Malarkey”

(I changed order of names as I thought it scanned better but feel free to ignore Grin)

yolofish · 10/02/2020 19:02

excellent work dandy do you want to start it?

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 10/02/2020 19:15

7Worfs
Agree - if they were donating this to charity, we'd have all heard about it!

IsntCoffeeWonderful · 10/02/2020 19:21

Apparently the venal two are being hoiked back to attend Commonwealth day.

Commonwealth indeed...

Baby Archie will be back in the uk then.
Humm.

Butterymuffin · 10/02/2020 19:25

They won't bring Archie. He'll stay behind so they have a reason to hot foot it back.

7Worfs · 10/02/2020 19:28

yolo feels like too much responsibility for me, if you don't mind please host us again Halo

annielouise · 10/02/2020 19:31

Oh no! I wanted He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy. Never mind Smile

Agree with whoever said if they'd raised $1m for charity it would have been shouted from the rooftops. I checked the IG page earlier and nothing.

Just blatant greed. Of course, if/when questioned it'll be some nonsensical rubbish from H about having to secure their security first and there must be an opportunity for that before they can then concentrate on what really motivates them, helping others.

ajandjjmum · 10/02/2020 19:35

Wonder if they will come back for the Commonwealth Service - or just Haitch?

annielouise · 10/02/2020 19:39

M will have to surely? It won't be pleasant facing the family or the country I'm sure but they did come out with that rubbish about continuing to honour and serve her Maj or whatever they said. If she doesn't and then doesn't come back for Beatrice's wedding either then what does that say? That she doesn't want to know H's family? It won't look good.
