I can't see them lasting much longer in the oligarch's mansion on Vancouver island. I've been to Vancouver Island. It's small, one road runs around it, they'd be very visible and conspicuous if they were out and about. And there are bears. I saw one by the roadside.

I hope we keep hearing nothing about them, and that they find happiness in rustication (assuming their stated aims of stepping back and ridding themselves of intrusion are what they mean).

It might be worth them making a few v quiet trips back to UK and soon - first is bound to draw attention, but if they are short, frequent and private interest will die down quickly. So get it over with.

"rustication" is a marvellous word!

I keep wondering (well not constantly, because I'm not obsessive) what they actually DO all day? I'd be going stir crazy living in someone else's house all that time. It's not like you can re-arrange the furniture, or paint a wall, or do something in the garden. You can't play with a 9 month old all day, and I'm assuming there are household staff, nanny and however many protection offficers, so cooking and cleaning would be out the window. Not many shops around, no friends locally.

Wonder if it will turn out like that Agatha Christie novel where people at a hotel on an island get bumped off one by one! (I wont name the book).

Since seeing the thread title, I've been thinking about why "'H' as I call him " is so irritating.

And what I've come up with is:

A lot of us call our partners by pet names or diminutives. So, imagine if Mr LaM was called "James" and an important person. I might call him "Jimmy", "Jim" or "J", say.*

If I was taking about him to friends, I might naturally call him any of those.
If I was talking about him in a more formal context (eg to his employees or just people who don't know him personally) I'd probably call him "James" or even "Mr LaM".

If I said him "J (that's what I call him) ", the implication would be, imo, that I know he's important but I, LaM, get to call him by a pet name.
You must call him "HRH", "Sir", prince Harry or whatever.
Massively over-thinking, I realise, but I do question my own motives and had been wondering why H-as-I-call-him makes me wince.


*The thought of Mr LaM as an important person is making me smile a bit.


**Obviously, I call him "Lord-and-master lion", as is correct and proper.

We were on Vancouver Island for the day, earlier this year. Beautiful - but certainly not an LA vibe! I suppose if you choose that environment as 'home', you would be a person who loves the outdoors and a quiet life. Remains to be seen if that suits H & M.

Oh, and another thing -

it was confirmed they have 15 officers at their disposal, who work on 2 weeks on/off rota.
Daily shifts weren’t specified, but I guess they have 2-3 on duty RPO at any given moment.

Anyway. It’s safe to assume officers fly back on their fortnight off. So that’s 26 round trips x 15 annually. Reader, 780 transatlantic flights a year, just for their security! I think it’s safe to say that H&M green credentials are out the window. Not even going to discuss monetary cost.

They've made the classic misjudgment of thinking that the holiday destination it was lovely to spend a few weeks in would be even more lovely to live in all round.

yolofish I agree. They must be spending a lot of time on the phone and internet I assume trying to drum up 'work'. Or moaning to friends about what a hard time they're having/had and how terribly hard it is for them. Also the nanny will be around all day with Archie so privacy will be limited I assume, even in a huge house. I would be going stark staring mad. I would guess they aren't going for long walks now either as the paps are everywhere. It truly must be a gilded cage.

There's an awful lot of mothers that say that's a full time job.
Possibly the same ones that say they lost loads of weight "running after" the children. Who are toddlers.

My legs aren't excessively long but I can outpace a toddler with ease. Especially as they fall down a lot.
