A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

Taken from an article with a QC explaining the laws surrounding privacy in Canada:

“Indeed, one easy way for Harry and Meghan to significantly reduce their attractiveness as a target to photographers and increase their legal right to privacy would be to allow their profiles to fade, but that seems unlikely. Their wish to earn an income appears impossible to uncouple from their celebrity.

The irony of all this is that by far the most comfortable place for Harry and Meghan to be, in terms of minimizing hated media scrutiny and harassment, is in the U.K., where a series of delicate truces have been negotiated with the press since Diana’s death.

An astonishing fact is that since the date of their marriage until the pictures of Meghan in the park appeared, not one unauthorized picture of Harry and Meghan doing anything privately has been published by the U.K press.”

Yet here they are, ‘driven out by the UK press’.

Froq · 24/01/2020 14:35

“This stands, despite the fact that they are regularly seen out and about at venues such as Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire and at various restaurants and bars, and cam-phone pictures of the couple are regularly offered to Fleet Street picture desks.

Last year, for example, unusually clear footage of Harry and Meghan sitting down to eat at a country pub shortly after Archie’s birth was hawked around the U.K. papers, none of whom touched it.”

@cacacois I loved Snobs, Fellows is just brilliant at the intricacies of 'high society'. I am far from that world but find it all so fascinating just as an observer

EleanorTopaz · 24/01/2020 14:41

Looking at the list of merchandise listed on the DM website that this pair of weasels want to sell under the SussexRoyal trademark, makes my blood boil. Bandanas and gloves!

Sussex is a county in England, and Royal is a status they have rejected. why can they not call themselves WindsorMarkle, or somesuch name that is truly theirs.

I am glad the Australian doctor is trying to block their trademark, using it feels to me like they are dragging the Royal Family and the UK into DelBoy's flat and marketing anything that moves. Where's their dignity?

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 14:42

Froq I wonder if advisers have pointed this out to Harry...

Also BrokenPagoda summed it up nicely. I hope Mustress and Vees come back, and welcome to delurkers who share their take on the H&M saga.

As always, don’t get dragged in circular pointless arguments and don’t feel the need to explain yourselves to the same several posters for the 10th time.

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 14:44

I don't think you should have to be a non-celebrity to expect not to be followed by paparazzi all the time!

And the press that Meghan and Harry objected to wasn't just pap photos, it was the way she was reported about. There has been a lot of analysis about the your of headlines she got etc

Jillyhilly · 24/01/2020 14:47

Yes to what 7Worfs said. I’m mainly lurking wirh no time to post, but catching up with these threads - when I can - has been really interesting and enjoyable.

Nobody will ever win the circular pointless arguments so just don’t bother!

www.royalcollectionshop.co.uk

Is this undignified?

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 14:51

I agree with Pagoda. I am here for diversion and some light gossip.

I have spent quite some time correcting my children’s comprehension work and and argumentative Creative writing recently. I have also commented on their language, picked holes in their argumentation and showed them exactly why they cannot draw certain conclusions from the evidence they have provided. However a) I had to do it because it was school work b) they are my children and c) I don’t ever think I asked them to have a good look at their own (sensitive) issues to properly examine why they thought certain things....

< dons tin hat, runs for cover >

LaMarschallin · 24/01/2020 14:51

why can they not call themselves WindsorMarkle, or somesuch name that is truly theirs.

Given that Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, was keen to talk about William and Harry's "blood family" ie Diana's family (surely there's Windsor blood in both of them too?), perhaps Harry may wish to distance himself further from the royals.

Which is a long-winded way of suggesting "Markle's and Spencer's" for their brand name.

"They're not just bandanas, they're...etc"

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 14:52

@7Worfs

Just so long as we're not back to trying to silence people you disagree with. 'pointless arguments' sounds like it could be! It's a discussion forum and you don't get to decide what points are worthy...

EcocabbyRickShaw · 24/01/2020 14:56

rockingchaircandle

In my opinion, it is undignified, yes! especially the soft toy corgi and the shower cap with a crest on Grin

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 14:56

Markle's and Spencer's

Lol, brilliant!

Also where are you reading updates on Charles? Link please Smile

Encyclo · 24/01/2020 14:57

It's not just the reporting though is it? It's the manner in which it's being reported. It's been vicious at times. Even the most intensely anti H&M crowd can surely see this?

Most if not all of that commentary has originated in the UK, so I can see why they'd want to leave.

If they decamped to Balmoral or Sandringham and stayed hidden, that wouldn't suit the masses either. It would be "Why are we paying for these two to live in the lap of luxury in a grand Estate?"

Whatever they did, it would piss people off so they may as well do what's best for them.

Froq · 24/01/2020 14:58

As always, don’t get dragged in circular pointless arguments and don’t feel the need to explain yourselves to the same several posters for the 10th time.

Yes it makes for difficult reading which is then off putting. But I guess that’s their motive - kill the conversation and thread.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 24/01/2020 14:59

Loving Markle's and Spencer's Grin

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 14:59

Froq I am sitting on my hands not to reply to deliberately obtuse questions and get sucked in.
It’s hard and no one is asking if I’m ok. Sad

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 15:00

Good point froq, the media seem to have given them quite a bit of privacy in the U.K. Those pap pictures were the first for quite a while

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 15:01

@EcocabbyRickshaw

Smile true! My favourite is the George IV sleep mask, that's genuinely pushing the boundaries of novelty gifts!

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 15:02

7Worfs, are you ok? It is important that you are able to thrive on this thread

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 15:05

@7Worfs @Froq

How about you say something directly to me. Which clearly outlines what I'm supposed to have done. Or you give over with all this passive aggressive stuff if you can't be direct. It's childish and I think that derails more than any points I've made!

EcocabbyRickShaw · 24/01/2020 15:06

God, rockingchair I didn't see that!!!

Is it wrong that I almost want one? DD insists sleeping with the landing light on and I like the dark Hmm

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 15:06

My dear GracefulHippo we have all been surviving the last 24h on the thread, and it’s not enough! We’ve got thrive!
I trust this message finds you all well.

Weetabollocks · 24/01/2020 15:08

Oh look, a thread full of people drawn together to collectively gossip and bitch about a 3rd party they barely consider to be human is imploding in on itself because people are bitching Hmm

TheBrokenPagoda · 24/01/2020 15:08

They could do a refresh on 'Harry's Bar' maybe with that twee little crown above the H. Signature cocktail 'Thrive'
