A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

I’m a remainer, Labour voter and republican though respect HMQ. I was happy for H&M at first but think they have behaved badly - and don't think they are particularly well suited as a couple.

peridito · 24/01/2020 13:17

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook if you must extend this

on the last thread there were 15 uses of the word bitch /bitchy /bitchiness.

Most of these (10) were posters describing themselves or using it in a playful way
Best fun, gossippy, mad, cat filled, dare I say now and then (bitchy) thread I've seen.

5 uses were by you and Rocking

RockingHorse said I don't feel the need to bitch about any of this family

you replied So what? And what's with the term 'bitch'? Assuming motives to posters, but you're not a SCOLD Plus (assuming) I want to bitch who are you to tell me, a grown woman not to?

your view then hardened into this
and since every time someone proffers the said explanation(s) as they see it, they get accused of being bitchy, best not bother anymore

Rocking's other use of the word are here

.It's weird how you think you deserve privacy to bitch (my opinion of course!) about this family on an open discussion forum you signed up to, but the family in question deserve none.

I think you are getting this out of proportion .

GoFiguire · 24/01/2020 13:19

In the absence of any IG posts, I present to you Piers Morgan in his underwear.

ajandjjmum · 24/01/2020 13:24

That's enough to guarantee nightmares! Grin

TheBrokenPagoda · 24/01/2020 13:25

@rockingchaircandle you obviously don't know many actresses GrinGrinGrin

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 13:27

I agree entirely with all your posts @CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook. I really do feel that disengaging is the best policy here though. Actually sit on your hands if you must Grin

Still no news from Vancouver I see. I was in Vancouver actually, in August last year, it's a lovely place. Never made it out to the island though. I liked the poutine and had it almost every day. For what is essentially chips and gravy they sure do a good job of it!

Snugglepiggy · 24/01/2020 13:27

I agree they need continued protection but the money? It does seem greedy. PC sounds like he is going to ensure they don't go short to start with. Some shrewd investment with the millions they have -they won't be short of expert advice.
At the risk of sounding harsh they have more money than most people could dream of.Not enough to maintain the current lifestyle Maybe, but still a very good one.And plenty of celeb friends and a family back in the UK with several country estates for free holidays with in built protection.Lots of people lose their businesses, get made redundant from a job that's all they have ever known and have to start from scratch.Harry is known for a deep love of Africa, and has said he would love to work in conservation. But I doubt Meghan would give it all up to live in an exclusive game reserve .

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 13:28

I would guess the absence of Heghxit news may be down to PC doing a very important Middle East visit, focusing on bringing faiths together. I think even H&M realise it would be a massive own goal to upstage PC today when he is drawing attention to an issue so close to his heart.

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 13:29

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook

I don't understand, do you object to the term 'bitching'. I wouldn't call someone a bitch, lightly, but I've never seen the use of 'to bitch' as a verb, as offensive. Apologies if you don't like it. Stand by the sentiment of both comments though, maybe if I changed the wording?

"I don't feel the need to say mean things about any of this family"

"It's weird how you think you deserve privacy to gossip about/dissect and criticise the actions about this family on an open discussion forum you signed up to, but the family in question deserve none?"

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 13:32

@CleansUpDragonPoo the stollen was very unsprouty thankfully and delicious. I also have some very vintage chestnuts I might have to freeze till next year...Grin

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 13:36

I love that picture. And that reminds me, someone asked about him on the other threads. The artist @ColdWarSteve is brilliant, I follow him on Twitter. Has an excellent jigsaw!

@TheBrokenPagoda I don't know any famous ones, no! My point was that it seemed a bit of a clutching at straws thing to bring up the fact that Harry's ex did well in a TV show, like pitting women against each other.

yolofish · 24/01/2020 13:41

Charles has been in the middle east, and seemingly doing a very good job. Pissing off the man who holds your finances in his hands upstaging him by taking the baby out for lunch would NOT be a good idea.

I agree with hulo its not so much the fact that H&M wanted to step back, its the way they went about it. They could have done it with grace and been in a far better position and with far more sympathy.

Demographics: 58, remainer but now resigned. Neither monarchist nor republican. Think HMQ has done a bloody good job; have a soft spot for the DoE even though he has some terrible faults. Like W&K, think they seem to try. Was pleased for H&M; think she is stunningly beautiful; not sure I would get on with her in real life!

As pretty much a bystander, I think the issue with this thread is that it attracts two very different types of people.

I view all this from a quite a frivolous, gossipy standpoint- comments are made 'tongue in cheek'. I love a bit of drama and no offence is intended and I think there are a lot of others who are similar. The Royals are fair game I think. They have being doing the same at Court for centuries.

Others seem to take comments very literally- as though personal attacks are being made. I think intention on both sides can be misinterpreted when just words on a page.

I really don't think the majority here mean any ill will to the Sussexes- they just happen to make spectacularly good subjects of gossip

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 13:50

"Charles has been in the middle east, and seemingly doing a very good job."

He might fancy someone upstaging him, after the bad press in Israel!

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 13:52

I think you've got it just right BrokenPagoda.

hellsbells99 · 24/01/2020 13:53

TheBrokenPagoda totally agree!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 13:55

Also we are a very diverse group of posters. There will be people posting on these threads who are more confrontational and direct in their daily interactions than others. It takes me aback when people are aggressive in their posts as I'm just not used to it, but it probably means nothing to them.

Onwards and upwards...

I think PC's visit has been welcomed by the Palestinians as Trump has aligned himself so firmly to the Israeli side. I admire him for trying to bring peace, not sure how effective he can be as a non politician but find him admirable for trying.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 24/01/2020 13:56

I agree brokenpagoda. I'm just here enjoying the gossip because H&M seem to have behaved in such a gossip-worthy way recently. It's become a soap opera and therefore I see it as fair game for a bit of innocent chat and (I admit it) speculation in a 'what the fuck were they thinking?' kind of way. I wasn't even remotely interested in either of them until about three weeks ago.

And definitely NO 'hate'. Not from me, anyway.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 14:03

I am wondering why so many people are identifying themselves as pro or anti Brexit and Labour voters. That has nothing to do with this thread. It’s irrelevant.

phpolly · 24/01/2020 14:05

BrokenPagoda is spot on

@Myimaginarycathasfleas

That is incredibly hypocritical after your treatment of me this morning! " It takes me aback when people are aggressive in their posts as I'm just not used to it, but it probably means nothing to them." Amazing! I really think your nowhere near the moral high ground. Also, the harshest, least 'light hearted' posts have been those criticising Meghan and her family.

I was thinking of Prince Charles' interaction with Mike Pence yesterday. Where there was widespread outrage over PC snubbing MP, when in context they'd been very friendly with each other, before and after. Outraged speculation on insufficient evidence can really trip you up!

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 14:07

@TheBrokenPagoda

I agree too

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 14:09

I was listening to a podcast yesterday (the New York Times Daily), and they did a special episode on Meghan and Harry. The correspondent was arguing that despite the tabloid gossip aspect of all this, there is a deeper question about British Identity and institutions. He suggested that the pro/anti Harry and Meghan divide was well mapped onto the Brexit divide.*

Does anyone else agree with this? Personally, I'm a remainer but not a fan of Meghan and Harry, but there is a Daily Mail / Piers Morgan element to the anti-Megxit sentiment. What do you reckon?

It's interesting to look at why there might be different perspectives.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 14:12

Has anyone read the book ‘Snobs’ by Jullian Fellows ?

No, but you've just reminded me I have seen it somewhere on my Kindle. Probably bought it on a whim or by accident. Will have to give it a go.
