Grin

JulietJanuary · 24/01/2020 21:10

I can imagine it's quite the hot topic..or not!

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 21:13

Do you mean the local paper in Vancouver Island juliet?

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 21:13

Right, I'm at the checkout and my basket comes up to 118.70 of mostly sweets(!), please help me trim it down, I'm too greedy. I've got:

Windsor Castle apron - 19.95
Buckingham Palace Imperial State Crown decoration - 25.00
Buckingham Palace Christmas Tree decoration - 14.95
Buckingham Palace Hazelnut and Chocolate Chip biscuit tube - 5.95
Coat of Arms Shortbread biscuit tin - 12.95
Buckingham Palace English Rose and Violet creams - 14.95
Buckingham Palace Handmade English Chocolate selection - 24.95

JulietJanuary · 24/01/2020 21:18

No Dumbarton, west of Scotland.

The Earldom of which was given to Harry by his Grandmother, whence cometh aaksoall his global commercial attributes..

JulietJanuary · 24/01/2020 21:19

"also all" that should have read. Sorry.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 21:20

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite I didn't think of him having an in front of camera role but yes, I could see that. Well, good luck to them if they can make it work. But then you would wonder why they would want to stay part time royals at all, and indeed how they thought it was going to work.

StubbleTurnips · 24/01/2020 21:21

7Worfs I can not help as I’m so close to buying a mini crown in a box for my desk, plus a throne Xmas tree decoration.

Nanasueathome · 24/01/2020 21:21

You need to trim your basket...a long way
I’ve been on the Buckingham Palace tour and whilst the house and contents are excellent I have to say that the shop and marquee tea room did leave a lot to be desired
My son and I had coffee and a pastry in the marquee and, although this was several years ago, he still regularly brings up the fact that I tipped my coffee on the royal lawn as it (the coffee) was disgusting

queenofarles · 24/01/2020 21:22

Class Is a big factor. Carole really knew how to get her daughters into an exclusive circle, and they just grew into to it , no idea if they were high achievers but I think both girls were very popular and sociable which again helped .
I think if Kate didn’t Marry William she’d end up marrying someone titled or with old money.

Meghan didn’t have that, and always looked lost and very insecure when she was with RF.
Meghan really knew nothing about the UK she thought Piers was special Grin!
I think she got zero guidance from Harry.

goldierocks · 24/01/2020 21:22

I think you should get the lot 7Worfs. Check if this discount code is still working - it was for 25% off and free delivery - EBBD9

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 21:22

7Worfs you do have a dilemma, because those all seem like essential to me.

katiegoestoaldi · 24/01/2020 21:25

I'm really, really loving how this thread has morphed into wish lists and shopping lists from The Royal Collection 😁

yolofish · 24/01/2020 21:27

What global position does the Queen hold?

oh cmon rockinchair you're being disingenous now! OK, she is HMQ of GB and the Commonwealth, that's her official position. But she is globally recognised as the person that every other world leader wants to meet, I'd call that a global position wouldnt you?

PS, 7worfs you need more biccies in that basket!!

NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 21:29

Rose and Violet creams??

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 21:33

StubbleTurnips I don't know why but reading your items made me chuckle, must be the grand names Crown Grin

Nanasueathome I know, I can't possibly blow 60 on chocolates, but they look so good

goldierocks That would have been so good, but it doesn't work anymore

Myimaginarycathasfleas Gosh! Do you want anything while I'm at it? Crown Grin

yolofish · 24/01/2020 21:34

Actually, and this is bang on topic being royal 'n all.

When I was 20 and freshly out of secretarial college (which was what nice but not terribly bright and/or lazy gels did back then) I went for an interview at Buck Pal.

The job was secretary to the secretary to HMQ secretary. So I went for the interview, was walked across the palace frontage, and into a door on the front right. Inside was like being in a stately home but without the ropes. I was offered the job, at £4k a year but as I was already earning £4.5k a year I turned it down.

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 21:35

But NiceGuyNeddie they come highly recommended from a PP upthread and they DO look good. Have you tried them?

Alsohuman · 24/01/2020 21:36

7worfs, you’ll be sick with that lot. I can’t believe those chocolates are worth £25.

yolofish · 24/01/2020 21:38

The Royal Mews is a good visit if anyone is interested - horses, cars and carriages. And a gift shop - cant believe the prices!

OP posts:
NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 21:39

7Worfs No I haven't tried them...I mean..they're rose and violet ..creams Bleuurghh

Sorry, i'm such a riff raff, cadburys turkish delight is as exotic as i go Grin (wonders how many turkish delights could get for £14.95..)

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 21:43

Good point, I usually dodge creams.

Speaking of class and to keep it on topic, every time I go shopping (Sainsbury's), I remember the old "Thank God for Sainsbury's, to keep the riff-raff out of Waitrose".
Where do you think Carole Middleton shops?

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 21:43

7worfs, what did you get? I would have added a mug and discarded the Christmas tree decoration, but I am badly organised and Christmas is far away for me Grin

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 21:45

@yolofish not being disingenuous, I couldn't picture what a global position was- thanks for explaining your definition! "globally recognised as the person that every other world leader wants to meet" -not every other, but a lot want to bag a photo op. Not convinced it's a reason why Harry shouldn't be allowed to step back, as it's disrespectful to her and her position, as his grandma or 'global leader'

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/01/2020 21:46

I bought a tea caddy when I went to Kensington Palace and a tea towel with a screen print of HMs face. ( I wanted to make a cushion cover with it....)
