Roz I am about to start browsing... will post what I'm choosing.
No china though, I am thinking of buying a Royal Albert tea set eventually.

TheNavigator · 24/01/2020 19:32

I’m the opposite, they have gone up in my estimation since they have decided to live their own lives. They have put up with some horrible times and I wish them well.

In so far as I care, I feel the same. Meghanmay have been able to stick it out for herself, but I think when she could see how the people could turn on Archie it was too much. The Danny Baker chimp post was dreadful, yet he got a standing ovation at his next gig. Like Laurence Fox, he painted himself as the victim. Why should anyone put up with that? I admire them for having the gumption to push back.

RozHuntleysStump · 24/01/2020 19:32

This cup. There’s also some rather nice jewellery.

@roisinagusniamh I agree class has a lot to do with it. KM, although her dps have money, wasn't of that class either but worked hard at adopting the habits of the aristocracy eg shooting and at befriending people in those circles. That's how she managed to fit in over time. MM didn't.
I also have wondered if MM had a less than welcoming reception from certain members of the RF because of that eg Andrew the arse. I can just imagine how some people would look down their nose at her.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 19:35

I wonder if the Royal collection shop has stopped selling Sussex things to let them benefit financially from items related to them?

If so, does the demographic they target buy royal collection things? I think the Sussexes appeal to a different demographic than the Queen (and probably PC and W&K).

DulciUke · 24/01/2020 19:38

I wonder what the agenda is for Americans posting on this thread because
I wonder if the nuances of British society and the way the RF works is something which needs some explanation, that’s all. I wonder if there is a bias to feeling more positive towards M because she is American. It’s a different value system. I don’t mean that in a disparaging way.

I'm an American and I don't have an agenda. I originally thought that Meghan might be a "breath of fresh air" etc. and that she might be a good addition to the Royal Family. I had never even heard of her before she started dating Prince Harry and was neutral to her as a person. Not being in the UK, I only heard snippets of bad press comments about her, many of which seemed rather snobbishly anti-American more than anything. That got me on her side, for a while at least. Those days are over because I have been reading mumsnet for months, and I do think that I have a handle on what her role was expected to be and how she flouted it. And while I do think that at this point that there is nothing that she can now that won't get a negative reaction, that's kind of the bed that she has made for herself. I do think that she is a fame whore and she is following that path. She wants to be a celebrity, end of. Have no idea how this is going to work out with them. Maybe she'll end up a minor, faded celebrity. Maybe she'll end up up a Kardashian (shudder). Anyway, you are right in that most Americans have no clue of the ins and outs of the royal situation and are probably on her side. Because, y'all are big meanies, dontcha know. (Kidding)

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 19:39

For avoidance of doubt, royal collection items with faces of royals on them, or other items

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 19:40

DulciUke this is exact summary of what I thought/think of MM and I have lived in the UK for a decade. You've excellent grasp from thousands of miles away.

Parker231 · 24/01/2020 19:43

I wouldn’t use Mn as your basis for factual evidence!

NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 19:44

When Meghan made the comment about her friends saying the British Tabloids would destroy her life if she married Harry - I thought, well why did you then?

There was no need for them to get into a big engagement announcement and huge showbiz wedding with all the world's press standing by. We know how careful Madge and Charles are/were of Harry and if he had said he didn't want that it would have been fine.
It was their choice

They are both coming across as hypocritical, fake and disrespectful

Aridane · 24/01/2020 19:47

May I apologise to anyone I've inadvertently annoyed by tagging them. I'm not a Twitter user and had no idea it was poor MN etiquette. It's just easier on the app as you get name prompts if you add the @ sign

Nah - it's not poor etiquette, it's a functionality of the site. You only get email notifications if you chose that in your settings (ie because you obsessively want to see when you're name checked).

It is, however, considered an egregious breach of all that is holy to @someone in FWR

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 19:48

I love that quote Over

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 19:51

Even if Charles and the Queen had been happy for them to have a quiet wedding, they'd probably have got it in the neck from the press and some of the public too. Meghan denying people, not knowing how it's done etc!

And really, why should they have to forgo a "big engagement announcement and huge showbiz wedding" to try to appease the press? And definitely glad she didn't let fear of the tabloids so her marrying him at all!

Alsohuman · 24/01/2020 19:54

These threads are turning into the most quarrelsome on MN. Can we ALL just draw a line under the squabbling?

JulietJanuary · 24/01/2020 19:55

Maybe George Michael read Pope!

lesleyw1953 · 24/01/2020 20:05

I predict that the next event will be Megan doing an up-market Jeremy Kyle effort pity party. Maybe with Harry.
She will flog voice overs and he will sit being royal and they will make shed loads of money.
Eventually she will divorce him

roisinagusniamh · 24/01/2020 20:08

MissEliza, I agree re the class issue. I remember my FIL saying, when Kate M married William, that she comes from a lower Middle class background and that they were 'trade' 😅
He added that if her parents had at least, had University educations they would be more 'respectable' I kid you not!

Roussette · 24/01/2020 20:09

Nice!

Jillyhilly · 24/01/2020 20:09

That cup is bloody gorgeous Roz ans I was sorely tempted. But £35!! I just don’t think I can be trusted with such a thing.

Please report back when it arrives.

Parker231 · 24/01/2020 20:10

Why would you think they would divorce - they appear a very happy couple, a cute baby and a new life ahead of them.

That's not going to happen.

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 20:12

I'm still deep in the royal collection shop - I want to sample all the biscuits! Any recommendations? I've seen only the lemon shortbreads mentioned upthread.

JulietJanuary · 24/01/2020 20:14

I believe Meghan does do voiceovers.

SingingLily · 24/01/2020 20:15

Evening, all,

I'll catch up on the thread in a bit but I'm just popping in briefly to let you know that TheMustressMhor has had positive news at the hospital and all, thank goodness, is well.

Mustress thanks all of you who have sent best wishes - there were many kind and thoughtful PMs - and she has asked me to respond to you all on her behalf as there have been so many, and she and DH are in need of a quiet evening after the events of the day.

It's times like this that the spirit of the Mumsnet community shines through - thank you.

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 20:16

7Worfs not biscuits but the rose and violet creams in the chocolate section are very good. They remind me of the very posh chocolates that my elderly aunt used to keep as a treat.
