A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

Maybe we should have a pact on this thread not to tag people? (Ive no idea how to do it anyway.) Alternatively I guess we can all alter our settings(which I must have done as I get no notifications, yay) I can't understand why people would allow notifications in their mums net settings, bloody Mumsnet is not exactly important in life!

callmeadoctor · 24/01/2020 19:13

Meant to put a grin on my post! Grin

Butterymuffin · 24/01/2020 19:13

Everyone reply to whatever they want to. No one has a right to insist others reply to them, engage with their point, or justify an opinion previously stated, if a poster does not want to do so.

The point about 'collaborate' being a less loaded word for American audiences is a good one. But then I think: surely Harry ought to have picked up on that? Maybe the editing was done in a hurry, as there were other references IIRC to wanting to continue to 'serve' which had a much more deferential tone.

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 19:13

Wendy yes - no context, no info about charity and beneficiaries, just MM smiling benevolently over the less fortunate.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 19:15

Phew. Wendy, I can see why it is an argument for it being banned. I have no plans to get drunk though.... just a mini bottle of wine or can of G&T. As I sadly don’t travel first class, it is bring-my-own....

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 19:16

I just read this comment:-

"She should be careful. You can break an arm while patting yourself on the back".

Made me smirk 😏

MrsJoshNavidi · 24/01/2020 19:16

I’m* not American and not really a fan of the RF but think M is great - just what the RF needed but unfortunately now not to be.*

Not American, but I agree it's a pity MM couldn't find the grit and tenacity to hang in there and become a role model to other young people, of any race, and support the RF in becoming relevant in the 21st century.

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 19:17

I doubt Harry signs off press releases. Iirc their website person is a young American so it's likely they used typical corporate speech not realising that there is a entire different protocol for the RF. If they'd used their UK PR team, the language would have been more suited to an UK audience (but apparently the UK team weren't informed about the statement at all).

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 19:18

Oh I definitely didn't mean to imply you'd get 🥴 and antisocial gracefulhippo! You can get mini bottles of prosecco in Sainsbury's - I got some for Christmas. That might work 🍾

Froq · 24/01/2020 19:19

Re the Instagram posts, the Cambs must have had a press release due.

It’s utterly pointless, just reads like her CV.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 19:19

Buttery, maybe PH just read it through quickly and trusted that the PR firm did their job?

I have come across some unfortunate spelling mistakes and choice of words in published materials, mainly due to someone not having that extra cup of coffee and taking an hour to read through something terribly dull..

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 19:20

I'm imagining a graceful hippo drunk on a plane now, thank you Grin

NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 19:20

I’m not American and not really a fan of the RF but think M is great - just what the RF needed but unfortunately now not to be.

Same. But i've gone off the pair of them like a ton of bricks. I thought they made a really cute couple and could add a bit of fun and glitz to the Royals, an improvement on the wooden William and Kate.

I was wrong about the election result as well...Blush

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 19:21

May I apologise to anyone I've inadvertently annoyed by tagging them. I'm not a Twitter user and had no idea it was poor MN etiquette. It's just easier on the app as you get name prompts if you add the @ sign.

From now on I'll try and remember to use the bold facility.

Every day's a school day...

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 19:22

I use the @ function to get the name I want then take the @ out of it and bold what's left. Slightly easier.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2020 19:24

Thank you Wendy, that's what I'll do too!

roisinagusniamh · 24/01/2020 19:24

I think the main problem Meghan had with fitting in with her in-laws was class related.
Because she is American we tend to think it's a cultural thing but I think, if she was English with the same background, she would have had similar problems and the DM would have shamed her for that too.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 19:24

Love the tipsy emoji Wendy Grin. It looks like it has a lot of fun. Maybe I should get tipsy 🥴 < found it, very proud >

Parker231 · 24/01/2020 19:25

I’m the opposite, they have gone up in my estimation since they have decided to live their own lives. They have put up with some horrible times and I wish them well.

RozHuntleysStump · 24/01/2020 19:27

To hell with it. I’m ordering that cup.

Butterymuffin · 24/01/2020 19:27

Graceful maybe. But this was arguably the most significant statement he might ever make about how he wants to live his life. And he left the wording of that in the hands of others? I'd have been checking it and editing obsessively before it went out. Perhaps he really didn't think it would attract the kind of analysis it has - but again..

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/01/2020 19:27

I can't see anything wrong with the Sussex insta post re International Day of Education.
And I have criticised some of Meghan's previous actions. I was generally a Meghan supporter until recently (when M posted that animal charity thing when Kate was doing her 5 Big Questions thing)
However since the Thomas Markle interview & funnily enough the generally thoughtful & kind critique of the programme by this thread, I'm beginning to think Meghan (although she doesn't help herself) can get a hard time.
I don't think Harry is completely innocent or as much a hen pecked husband as we think we is.
And I don't think Doria is as 'perfect' as made out to be.
Though the whole situation is unfolding like a car crash in slow motion.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 19:29

Maybe she tweaked it and quickly pressed send while he was in the shower Wink

Encyclo · 24/01/2020 19:29

Not American either, I like MM and I've always lioved dear old Harry, as Charles called him on his wedding day.

I still support them, think they've had a really shit time from the press and the comments sections. I only wish them well and believe they will prevail.
