A marshmallow gin, that sounds wonderful and terrible at the same time

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 24/01/2020 18:00

Encyclo

Camilla, Fergie, Kate and Diana all got it in the neck from the press but without the racism
Have the British press actually engaged in racism? Or are you referring to below the line comments, responding to their articles, being racist?

What did the Royal Family do to protect or defend her? From Harry's standpoint I bet it's precious little.
How can the RF protect Meghan from racist comments? They can only protect their own families from things they can control. What kind of things would you expect them to do, to have done?

PH's idea of protecting Thomas Markle was to tell him not to talk to the press. Maybe he should advise Meghan not to read about herself on social media?

Wheresthebeach · 24/01/2020 18:01

Have you looked on mygin.co.uk?

goldierocks · 24/01/2020 18:04

I also thought that using "....as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen..." was a terrible choice of wording.

We usually have a takeaway on Fridays, although I'm seriously considering making the chinese chicken dish with the diet coke sauce from the Pinch of Nom cookbook. It's really nice and doesn't taste like cola at all.

derxa · 24/01/2020 18:04

The Queen is a human, the head of an institution, why couldn't she collaborate? But it's for the Queen to decide to 'collaborate' or initiate it. 'Collaborate' suggests an equal footing.

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 18:05

@Jonb6 I do think there has been racism, but also a lot of misogyny as you highlight about Mary Beard etc. So I totally agree with you when you say "The only information we have is that put out by a nasty vitriolic uncontrolled press."

I don't think people are recognising the influence of the press, or the fact that when people lap it up, it feeds back and gets worse.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:07

It’s like a junior clerk in a bank deciding to ‘collaborate’ with the Governor of the Bank of England . How Harry ever out his name to that piece of absolute ridiculousness I do not know.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:08

Put not out

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 18:09

Wheres I hadn't. Thanks. They have a blue one. The one I tried was a very pale pink. I think it must have been one of the unicorn ones but there are about seven different brands of unicorn marshmallow gin who knew?! Maybe I just need to buy a bottle of each in the interests of research.

Nikhedonia · 24/01/2020 18:09

The "collaborate with the Queen" line was a really poor choice of words.

Originalyellowbelly · 24/01/2020 18:10

Turkish delight gin is lovely, as is Blackberry gin with elderflower tonic.

RozHuntleysStump · 24/01/2020 18:11

Thanks for posting that royal souvenir site! I’m now toying with the idea of ordering a £35 coffee cup and a Buckingham palace tea towel. 😩😩😩

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:12

I think it demonstrated that Meghan still has no idea how the hierarchy works in the RF. even after marrying into it. The fact she has to be told to face forwards and shut up for the National Anthem is an indication of that.

Encyclo · 24/01/2020 18:13

Noteverything. Yes the press have engaged in racism. The almost straight outta Compton remark. The notorious "exotic DNA" article by Rachel Johnson and the comparison of Archie to a chimp By Danny Baker springs immediately to mind.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:14

Oh Christ. Not this gain.

LilyMumsnet · 24/01/2020 18:15

Hi folks,

We're just swinging by to let you know that attempts of pushing people off of the thread (including calling people scolds) really isn't on, and will likely end with the thread getting deleted.

Please play nicely - if you don't like a post, scroll on by. If you have concerns about a post, please report it using the report button so that we can take a look.

Thanks.

Peace and love. Flowers

Yes, because the great unwashed are too thick and ignorant to observe and come to their own conclusions. If we hold a negative opinion of M it's because we are so thick that we unquestioningly allow ourselves to be spoon fed unpleasant misogyny and racism by the press without question and then spew it all back out uncontrollably - like many of us on this thread yes? That's been the thrust of your argument throughout, that we are believing whatever we are told like a herd of dumb cattle and applying no critical thinking whatsoever. If we don't agree that YOU are right it's because we are bitchy, jealous, unhinged women with nothing better to do. HAS to be that doesn't it, otherwise we'd be agreeing with YOU because YOU are right and it's just so frustrating that we can't see it.

Do you not see how you are positioning yourselves as a superior moral authority on public matters we are ALL entitled to observe, absorb information and comment on? Is it for our own good, us thickos that just can't see it? Honestly do you not see why so many would be offended even enraged by that? Then you wonder why no one wants to engage with you on this thread.

diddl · 24/01/2020 18:17

I quite fancy the Union Flag blanket & handbag shortbread (for emergenciesGrin)

Lemon shortbread sounds nice-is it available in supermarkets?

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 18:17

But she's a human who can collaborate! Not some deity who is above such things. Seems weird to see it as disrespectful. It's 2020!

@noteverything I think the royal family could have done a lot more in terms of openly condemning the abuse Meghan was getting. What more do you think Harry should have done for Meghan's dad? Whatever that was, the royal family could have done that too, no?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:18

Wendy
Very well said

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 18:19

@rockingchaircandle
Are you British?

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 18:19

I can totally see why if you were moving country because of the media you would move to a country with less media controls than the UK, would spend quite a large proportion of your first statement highlighting how you're going to work with the media and that you'd hold up the American media as superior to the UK media. That's the American media that includes the National Enquirer; Fox News; Howard Stern, etc, etc. That's the American media that broke the story of H serving in Afghanistan when the UK media had agreed a news blackout with the RF. Hmm

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/01/2020 18:20

@LilyMumsnet tbf the scolds thing has stopped. I can't see who is being pushed off the thread tbh. People are trying to scroll by and ignore and not engage in arguments then being told they're mean girls for doing it. I really hope that you're looking at all the posts and seeing this and not just the ones moaning about being ignored and how it's bullying.

Thanks for your input though Smile

Encyclo · 24/01/2020 18:21

Oh and her charity cookbook supports terrorism

rockingchaircandle · 24/01/2020 18:21

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling

My point was that the media influence opinion! You think they don't? The only access we have to these people is through the media and how they present people. Can't you just engage with the point, rather than having a go at me personally again?
