A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

I wonder if Oprah did something wrong or if Ellen just offered more money Confused Maybe Oprah's original lukewarm response to their decision to leave sealed her fate. Although if I was H&M and having to earn my own income from being famous, I'd opt for whoever paid the most too.

derxa · 24/01/2020 17:25

I think Tommy Lascelles is a great character and Pip Torrens plays him so well. Love him

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 24/01/2020 17:26

I don't mean to sound thick but is tagging where you put '@' followed by a username? What is the effect of doing that? I do it frequently but am worried now that I'm bugging the heck out of people.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 17:27

I’ve just seen that the Ellen thing has been denied.

katiegoestoaldi · 24/01/2020 17:27

Someone asked about dinner. We're having a Thai takeaway

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 17:27

Sunset I guess it seems more intrusive because if someone tags you, you get a notification. Whereas when we didn't have tagging, you'd only know if someone had referenced you if you were back, engaging on the thread anyway.
I think it's becoming much more common to use tags though. I don't have a strong preference either way.although I realise I haven't used them in these posts but I figure you're active on the thread and will see this without me tagging you Grin

peridito · 24/01/2020 17:28

Sunset if by "tagging" ppl mean @SunsetBoulevard3 then I think the tagged recipient gets an email .So possibly intrusive ?

Nikhedonia · 24/01/2020 17:28

Lord yes, but we have tagging now! Why can't we use it? Sad it's rare that I would tag someone to 'call them onto' the thread

colouringinpro · 24/01/2020 17:28

catching up!

Nikhedonia · 24/01/2020 17:29

Sunset I've noticed so many snarky posts.

Fainne · 24/01/2020 17:30

The only way Meghan will have gone with Ellen vs Oprah is if Oprah doesn't want the interview. I think Oprah has enormous respect for the elderly in our society, so perhaps she doesn't agree with what they've chosen to do. You don't need to be British to know that it's a FUCK you to Britain and the Royal Family. The Queen is 93 ffs. She's not 60 or 70. She is an elderly lady and should be treated with respect. She wasn't imo.

goldierocks · 24/01/2020 17:30

If you put @ followed by username the person gets an email from Mumsnet to say they've been mentioned on a thread.

Fainne · 24/01/2020 17:31

It's to clarify who you're speaking to.

emzey · 24/01/2020 17:31

Ok I'll go and cook my garlic chicken in pitta breads. Then I will discuss time travel or Meghan markle withe the family, poor sods.
Have a lovely peaceful evening ladiesSmile

Fainne · 24/01/2020 17:32

Canadians think it's great! They've chosen Canada over the great Kingdom!

Encyclo · 24/01/2020 17:32

Camilla, Fergie, Kate and Diana all got it in the neck from the press but without the racism
Obviously.

What did the Royal Family do to protect or defend her? From Harry's standpoint I bet it's precious little.

I can't blame him for removing himself and his family.

Parker231 · 24/01/2020 17:33

@TheMustressMhor - surely HMQ’s priority is that her grandson and his family are happy and live the life of their choosing? Can’t see where any disrespect comes into it?

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 17:35

@Nikhedonia lots of people use it. I don't think there's a rule not to use it. I was just explaining why some posters don't.
I think the other issue is that some posters who have been here for all the DOS attacks, etc, have an email just for MN so they don't check it and miss all the tags I just checked mine and had over 20 emails about tags but I never check that email so hadn't seen them

yolofish · 24/01/2020 17:35

encyclo Flowers for you and your son. What an awful thing.

We are having Iceland mixed spicy shrimp with fresh tagliatelle. Iceland is bloody brilliant, cant recommend it highly enough!

I hope HMQs cold is better...

I don't mind the Queen but I don't get why people keep saying he's being disrespectful. Is it just because he's stepped with, with his family? Yes, she's old but if he waited till she'd died that would be a lead balloon too.

eggandonion · 24/01/2020 17:37

Mustress, glad to see you, enjoy your dinner!

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 24/01/2020 17:37

Fainne

Oprah has expressed her support for H&M in the past couple of days.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 24/01/2020 17:37

Ah thanks for the clarification on the tagging thing. I understand now. I never get notified though? It’s it a case of choosing not to be notified in your settings?

Jonb6 · 24/01/2020 17:37

Just because Camilla, Catherine, Diana and Fergie all also had vitriol from the press at sometime doesn't mean it is acceptable for this to also happen to Meghan. I don't think it is racist, I think it is misogynist. If you look at the press Tim Laurence received and Mike Tindall upon joining the family, there are relatively few if aany nasty vitriolic bullying posts. The worst was comments on Mike Tindall's nose. Which in fairness was pretty bad and he has since had it fixed. Why can't we just say you know what, the press needs taking to task and forced to stop all this crap against women. It isn't just the RF, look at what happened to Mary Beard. The trolling was horrendous. The only way we can stop discrimination, bullying and this crap and focus on irrelevant stuff about whether a dress fits properly or not, is to stop. Cannot we please as women say enough . . .?

Fainne · 24/01/2020 17:39

Because it's an institution she has carried on her shoulders for almost 70 years. Rejection of it, is a rejection of her and all she's spent her life upholding. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't sometimes think - why the fuck do I even bother (in politer more regal terms of course).
