I'm undermining your pap walk narrative with actual facts about the paps in question and their previous run ins with H&M

Not quite, Encyclo; you said they'd both sued the pap agency, whereas according to the BBC and the reported palace statement this doesn't seem to be so

And whatever arrangements or court cases Harry may have been involved with don't necessarily bind his wife where her own choices are concerned

'The Duchess of Sussex has moved her business to a US state used by the super-rich to protect their interests from scrutiny.'

It must surely cost more to send UK police to Canada than to deploy them at home. Assuming there are two on duty at once, doing eight hour shifts with no days off - that would be six experienced officers at a minimum. Would they be posted to Canada permanently, or on a rotating basis? Would their families be expected to move to Canada? Would they be OK?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/01/2020 21:16

@JulietJanuary Some people were suggesting they will not be able to use the term Sussex Royal

I think it's a cheek to expect your security bills paid by the country you claim is racist and you don't even want to live there and may never want to go back to (in the case of M) and are not doing duties in.

But then I also think I would have enough dignity to stop accepting cash from my dad, or FiL

derxa · 23/01/2020 21:17

There’s another prog on the Royals on ITV now. I love the old footage.
I don't know why everyone is arguing over a pair of spoilt twats who don't give a shit about the little people.

7Worfs · 23/01/2020 21:17

Thanks, katie.
This is one to watch - will Harry join the business, or leave everything to his savvy wife.

*Today Thomas Markle was exposed as having told a large and elaborate lie about Meghan, his past relationship with her, and about his past financial circumstances.

He claimed to have paid for Meghan's first wedding by selling $20,000 worth of Facebook shares. Except Meghan got married eight months before Facebook first became a publicly traded company (meaning Facebook shares literally did not exist at the time of her wedding).

Thomas Markle just sold a story to the world's press claiming something that is literally impossible without access to a time machine. To lie so blatantly casts every single thing he's ever said into doubt, IMO.

The man seems to have absolutely no concept of truth or reality at all.*

Just seen the above in another thread

The80sweregreat · 23/01/2020 21:22

It is wrong that any country had to foot the bills for their safety , but what can be done?
If anything happened to them then that would also be horrible too.
I'm sure the royals will fudge it somehow to keep everyone happy but someone has to pay and it will be more over there than here , unless they hire Canadian security?
It is cheeky and I bet neither of them gave it much thought at the time.

Froq · 23/01/2020 21:24

@Encyclo your previous post states H was unhappy, not M. I also saw no mention of the substantial damages you’re banging on about.

It does seem ridiculous but then I’m sure the same was said about Diana when she complained about the press intrusion. Only for it to be revealed afterwards that she was the one tipping them off.

yolofish · 23/01/2020 21:25

Just to go back to the paps/Splash. M has used them before; she probably has good contacts there; she can 'trust' them as far as anyone can trust a pap; H wasnt in the country when the pics were taken; she will get a cut of the profits. Splash wont shop her because then they risk losing all their other 'clients'.

When I'm walking the dog and hear someone call my name I dont actually turn round with a radiant glowing smile, I'm more likely to frown and think 'who the fuck is that?' (but maybe that's just me).

If I was megafamous and someone did that I'd hide behind my security!

derxa · 23/01/2020 21:27

Encyclo · 23/01/2020 21:28

From Observer.com. I can't post the link.

Make no mistake: The royals do not mess around when it comes to their privacy. Prince Harryy and Meghan Marklee took a paparazzi news agency to High Court after aerial photos were taken of the couple’s Cotswolds home, and now the Sussexes have been awarded substantial damages and a public apology.
This means we now know why the Duke and Duchess of Sussexx made an early departure from the country estatee. They signed a two-year lease on the propertyy shortly before their wedding, but abruptly moved out earlier this yearr. It was all the more surprising due to how much time Prince Harry and Meghan spent in the Cotswolds after renovating and decorating the estatee_.

rockingchaircandle · 23/01/2020 21:28

Harry's been a royal from birth. He had no choice, and now he needs security because of that. He has the right to step back surely, and the country has obligations for his family's security.

I think the whole concept is outdated and would love to see the back of it/ massively slimmed down. And I can see how royals themselves would want out. But I think they can't just get cut off straight away, ethically.

rockingchaircandle · 23/01/2020 21:31

I'm confused as to how much is known about the baby sling papping incident. We don't know anyone called her name do we?! Lots of criticisms seen founded on this.

yolofish · 23/01/2020 21:33

Hang on, have I got this right? They spent lots of money on renovating a rental property in the Cotswolds before this? Then they spent a fortune on Frogmore?

Wonder who paid for the rental house works? (We know about Frogmore obvs...)

Where did they live between the Cotswolds and Frogmore?

derxa · 23/01/2020 21:34

They never lived at Frogmore

Weirdly it's me as well @yolofish no radiant smiles.

And whenever I was out with my baby I was especially sensitive to any sort of stranger danger.

Maybe we're both just strange birds eh?

katiegoestoaldi · 23/01/2020 21:36

Where did they go after leaving the Cotswolds early? Back to their cottage at Kensington Palace?

OVienna · 23/01/2020 21:38

I might even deploy my vulgar bitch face, Catherine. It's a stroke of good fortune I if no interest to paps. Couldn't bear the sight of my face on things.

colouringinpro · 23/01/2020 21:38

katie which thread? v interesting, especially after last night's programme!

Encyclo · 23/01/2020 21:40

I believe it was a SCOLD who suggested someone had called her name and that's why she was smiling, as opposed to smiling because she knew a pap was going to be there

This again? Can't we just debate points back and forth?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/01/2020 21:40

@OVienna Grin

StubbleTurnips · 23/01/2020 21:40

You’re not alone Yolo my resting bitch face turns to angry red faced woman if someone shouts me, espesh if I’ve forgotten my glasses on a dog walk.

Watching ITV now, interesting that it noted Princess Di liking to upstage her husband.
