I hope I've got what everyone wants in the title of this, the twelfth thread in the series.

Scolds makes me think of dropped scones.
Random observation btw

The80sweregreat · 22/01/2020 18:00

I feel a bit sorry for Mr Markle as I think he meant well but the press snookered him over that suit buying thing and the stress did make him poorly. Going no contact with family is horrible and they were close once I believe. It's a poor situation all round. It's also sad his never met his son in law or his new grandchild. Whatever your thoughts on the man , it's still very upsetting for all of these people.
Only one that seems alright is her mum and she is keeping out of it all. Wise woman.

crispysausagerolls · 22/01/2020 18:08

What is a SCOLD?

What channel is doc?

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 18:09

I think it helps to remind everyone that there are real people behind the keyboards. With real feelings

I did indeed say that, Peridito, and I am happy to have this opportunity to remind everyone of the context in which I said it.

It was in response to a handful of posters who were highly critical - indeed on some occasions, quite brusquely so - of those who made reference to such wide-ranging everyday topics such as dinners, cats and health concerns and who scoffed at the notion that we were forming a community (as people generally do) by gently joking with each other.

That's why I'm so thrilled with the thread title. We can talk about dinners and cats with impunity.

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 18:10

Oh, and barbers.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 18:12

crispysausagerolls

The documentary is on Channel 5 this evening.

A "scold" is someone who tells you off.

What is a SCOLD?

People like me, who point out that this thread is a Meghan bashing thread and that calling their son "Merchie" is over the line.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 18:14

And plucking pheasants.

OP posts:
crispysausagerolls · 22/01/2020 18:15

Oh it’s literally the usual meaning of “scold”! The capitals made me think it was an acronym 🙈

MurrayTheMonk · 22/01/2020 18:15

I can't decide wether to watch Love island or Markle senior live...which will bring the most drama...

I have had two of those Chicago town pizzas for tea, washed down with some 'wine' (a sort of strawberry flavoured Rose).
DP is working away and the DC are at their Dads. On Wednesdays I have an extremely royal standard tea clearly... one up from last Wednesday when I had a packet of cheese straws and some Houmous...not even sorry really.
I'm about to have my pudding which is a macaroon from the very posh local shop. Touch of class.
As for Cats, we are getting a new kitten at the end of Feb, to replace my dearly loved old boy, who died last Easter and who is sorely missed...worried about how the Dogs will react to the kitten, (who shall be called Pablo).

Lots of love to those having tests and medical things... I hope the threads are a welcome distraction...

crispysausagerolls · 22/01/2020 18:15

I thought Merchie was quite funny...

I know a lot of people love the title of this new thread but I wonder if we could ask MN to change the H & M to their actual names in case people don't know who it is about. Obviously if people come to this board they will figure it out but if it appears in Trending Now they won't have a clue.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 18:15

Suggest that nobody engages.

Ah yes, I forgot about the plucking pheasants bit, Mustress.

And Argyll.

Encyclo, I would ask you politely not refer to Archie by that name and point out that you are the only poster on this thread to have used the word...but I won't. Because I don't want to be a Scold.

goldierocks · 22/01/2020 18:19

Does anyone else remember learning about the Scold's Bridle at school?

They have one at the Tower of London, it's a fearsome looking thing!

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 18:19

Sorry, Mustress.

You are quite right.

I meant newcomers to this topic.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 18:22

The Scold's Bridle was used to chastise wives who had the temerity to argue with their husbands.

The very idea.

I'm just explaining the definition of SCOLD as it applied to me. Good to see, in the cold light of day, some of you realise how despicable that man was though.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/01/2020 18:25

And until 1967 the offence of common scold was still on the law statute & applied to both men & women.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 18:25

I can think of a good acronym for SCOLD, crispysausagerolls.
