Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Questions to ask yourself:

Why was that particular shot published?
Do we know when it was taken?
What story is the media trying to tell?

There could have been plenty of shots where she's not smiling that could have just as easily been chosen to say look how miserable they both are and they are on the verge of splitting up. But they chose a different angle yesterday which was Meghan is alright jack and Harry is unhappy.

It's really not difficult. Once you remember that the media is no longer is required to tell (or portray the truth) and is simply trying to sell papers, get clicks and make money, it's much easier to not get taken in by it all.

Greetings, CatherineOfAragon.

I am sure that you are okay. We are having curry tonight (made by me) before you ask.

My 88 year-old neighbour told me yesterday that she was worried about electric cars, as she would not be able to hear them coming.

I told her that the cars of the future have sensors which stop them knocking old ladies down (some already do) but she did not believe me.

Then she handed me the Saturday Mail, which she thinks DH and I enjoy, and disappeared.

It was the work of a moment to throw the paper in the recycling. I cannot bring myself to tell her our real thoughts about this rag.

Just popping a cheeky placemeark here. Looking forward to a good read later. Finding the whole Debarkle fascinating.

What I find so awful, is the notion that it’s allegedly all about their ‘family’ (MH and Archie). M has no family loyalty to her own, and in order to prove Harry’s to her, she’s making him walk away from his. Forget the duties, the titles etc. The loss Harry will surely feel, is not seeing his ageing grandparents in their latter years. His relationship with his father, his only brother, and the opportunity for his own son to grow close with his brother’s children. His lack of back bone to stand by all that, is nothing short of pitiful. Those who say that Diana would be so proud, I believe couldn’t be further from the truth.

The RF had no choice but to cut them lose. The idea that he and Megan could force the hand of the family, with some petulant ill thought out announcement on their website, is short sighted indeed. It’s exactly Harrys inability to refrain from such outbursts, that has led to the severance. He’s clearly controlled by Megan, and she clearly has no regard for the RF. There was no other option. I don’t know what he thought would happen?

I’m sure there will be much interest in HM at first, just as there was in Sarah Ferguson when she went to America. But with no real Royal connection, it will fade. Fergie ended up the face of fat fighters.... what will Megan become the face of?
I agree with many others in here, that eventually Harry will be back. (hope) However, Megan will not, and no doubt she will try and live off her son’s blood line. He will be Royal by blood, but with a Mid Atlantic accent, and no idea of Royal life...

Oh Harry... what have you done?

GlitchStitch · 21/01/2020 12:21

Meghan is articulate but she sounds rehearsed and a lot of what she says is a bit contrived and vacuous. I said on a previous thread that I was very surprised to hear how articulate Samantha Markle is, and off the cuff too. I expected something very different!

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 12:23

That Alexis Ohanian Twitter thread is very interesting.

I suspect a certain amount of Serena's 'stepping back' could be down to irritation. I mean, Serena nearly died in childbirth and received poor care. She's faced absolutely vile racism again and again. She's an incredibly talented women who has worked unbelievably hard to get to the top and I bet it's bloody annoying to hear someone like Meghan act as if she's been hard done by. Plus Serena loves Wimbledon, it must be annoying to hear Britai labelled as racist when she's always enjoyed her time here.

dottiedodah · 21/01/2020 12:25

I think for so many people saying "so what" and its up to them ,they miss the point that the RF is part of Britain. Our Dearly loved Queen was on holiday in Africa with PP when the king died . She was expected to stand and do her duty ,which she has done so well for so long l.When PC becomes King he will in effect be missing one of his Sons!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 21/01/2020 12:27

One only has to imagine themselves in the same position:

Your husband is dealing with an incredibly difficult challenge. One that will involve him giving up his lifes work and will affect him deeply as well as affect the future of your child.

Your husband is featured on the TV stumbling through a speech in which he appears vulnerable and it is obvious how difficult he is finding the compromises he has to make. You are not there to comfort him and give him support.

Your husband is making these sacrifices because he hates how you've been treated by the press. He knows you want and need more privacy

Your husband is soon to fly homr. You don't know what state he will be in.

So would you.....

Arrange for the papparazzi to be present while you go for a walk. Knowing they are there and will sell the pictures to the worlds press which includes the British tabloids that have made your life hell, make eye contact and smile into the camera?

Or would you

Lie low, be anxious about what your husband is going through. Tell the paps to go fuck themselves and order your security to ensure there's no opportunist paps around, because the LAST thing you can deal with right now is any press intrusion at all?

I actually would like to think its some sort of mistake as well.

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 12:29

By the time Prince Charles becomes King, Harry will have separated from Meghan and will be back with the RF.

Just looking at the place where they are staying makes me wonder why she needs to go out in the public gaze to walk the dogs?

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 12:32

I actually would like to think its some sort of mistake as well.

But unfortunately we know that it isn't a mistake.

This is Meghan, still in leggings and a jumper, striding along, beaming for the cameras, not caring two hoots about her husband's feelings and wellbeing.

This is the writing on the wall.

Have lurked since the first of these threads; not entirely sure why I have been finding the situation so fascinating. History in the making, I guess. Have nothing to add, except – in reference to the Prince Garry typos on previous threads – his name is actually Prince Garry in Russia! (And possibly/presumably other countries using the Cyrillic alphabet too.)

There is no direct equivalent of the letter 'H' in Cyrillic. Closest alternatives are Х (pronounced in the back of the throat as 'kh') or Г (hard 'g'). Orally the former sounds closer, but the Russian press have always (AFAIK) used the latter. Same for the Potter character. This is a link to a Russian-language article on the BBC website, where you can see the transliteration of both their names in the title: Prints Garri / Megan.

notmoresheep · 21/01/2020 12:49

“ Just looking at the place where they are staying makes me wonder why she needs to go out in the public gaze to walk the dogs?” yes and have herself papped with a baby that they didn’t want to release an official photograph of because privacy. Odd, isn’t it?

yolofish · 21/01/2020 12:53

ah, I cant be doing with either of them anymore. He is a weak man I think; she knows how to press his buttons. Yet there is a terrible fascination in watching them self implode without it seems much care for anyone else caught up in it all. Car crash.

Pin this post: we will see them in the Oscars 2020 or at the Vanity Fair party.
If not this year, it will be in 2021.

OVienna · 21/01/2020 12:57

I hadn't considered Meghan's trip to see Serena play in that light before.

didofido · 21/01/2020 13:03

It seems to me that H's Sentabale speech was written by someone who speaks American English - "gotten" for instance,

Did M write it, or has H adopted her style & vocabulary?

eminencegrise · 21/01/2020 13:05

I think Harry wanted to have the last word with that speech, but it was rude and Ill thought out, just as the whole situation has been.

And it's not the first time he's done that in speeches. Good riddance to him! He's a fool. She is as transparent as glass.

ajandjjmum · 21/01/2020 13:05

Bit of both I would think. I did think the way that he said words to the effect of 'Diana's 2nd son got hitched, hurrah', was totally without feeling. Also the fact that he spoke of his 'mum' (why not!), but maybe not what he would normally do?

SpanishLady · 21/01/2020 13:08

Ah cmon - she can go for a walk with her child!

Now if she'd been at the SAG awards that might have been odd

Pic quality suggests a member of the public took her pic
