Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 10:30

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Nah!
I've put a big plaster on.
It's fine
Sniff

The80sweregreat · 21/01/2020 10:52

The Brits don't like her much : not overall. I can't talk for everyone of course , but most people I know are of the ' it won't work out ' camp. The Americans might do more now his over there.
I hope it does. I hope I'm proved wrong.
He needs her to be supportive of him. He looks like a man on the edge at times! Big upheaval for him but he may grow to love it.

Teddy1970 · 21/01/2020 10:52

It's gone too far now for them to be really popular in two years time, everyone's got her number now.

Imstinkyeddie · 21/01/2020 10:52

Didn't they go to Canada house on their (brief) return from their 6 week hols???
Did they get visas then??

peridito · 21/01/2020 10:53

Stop trying to control what other people talk about Rousette. I don't think people like you realise how controlling you're being. It's worrying.

Why does someone saying they think there shouldn't be another thread equate to being controlling ?

There is a difference between seeking to influence someone's behaviour by talking to them ,putting another point of view and controlling someone .

Is it a crime to want to comment on behaviour that you don't agree with ? The suggestion seems to be " if you see something you don't like just look away " .
Rousette nobody is forcing you to look at this thread, or the new one, but I am going to hazard a guess that you will post on it anyway.

By the same token - No one is forcing anyone to watch and read about H&M's behaviour .If you don't like it why don't you ignore it ?

AutumnCrow · 21/01/2020 10:54

It's interesting the way The Firm has punished them in the style of traditional criminal justice. There's the element of retribution; a deterrent effect; and an opportunity for rehabilitation - for Harry.

GuytheBeagle · 21/01/2020 10:55

Spot on autumn !

SingingLily · 21/01/2020 10:56

Did they get visas then??

Good point. Almost certainly.

And of course, I hope you are OK.

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 10:56

I'm not okay.

I have not had breakfast yet.

Autumn hadn’t thought of it like that, but am nodding in agreement

Imstinkyeddie · 21/01/2020 10:57

They have planned this for a long time....

It's a real 2 fingers up to the RF, esp HMQ and their charity patronages and his military patronages.

And lets not forget the 2.4 mill of taxpayers money for a house they don't want to live in and 30 mill for the wedding....

If they genuinely can't see why their recent behaviour rankles somewhat then there's no hope really...
I don't think she will ever come back....

Imstinkyeddie · 21/01/2020 10:57

I've had 2 croissants (but 1 had a bit of blood on....)

The80sweregreat · 21/01/2020 10:58

I bet his family would be happy to have him back one day. It seems to be his dad he has had the biggest rift with though , but who really knows?
He'll be back for things still.

scaryteacher · 21/01/2020 10:59

Mustress Besides having decades worth of experience of wrangling Naval Officer's, I once spent a very enjoyable hour trying to remove the spurs of an RM Officer at a ball, and admiring his rear end in mess kit, at a ball.

notmoresheep · 21/01/2020 10:59

SingingLily Julie Burchill in last week’s Spectator suddenly getting it too. Love her even more, now.

notmoresheep · 21/01/2020 11:00

scaryteacher photos or it didn’t happen.

diddl · 21/01/2020 11:00

How could he think that he could have military patronages from Canada though?

JurassicParkaha · 21/01/2020 11:00

Hello! I've been a long time lurker, first time poster but wanted to add my 2 pence to this thread.

There was an interview in 2016 when MM was still in Suits, that I had really enjoyed as a huge fan of the series. []

She comes across really intelligent, confident and ambitious but it's very telling at 15:33, when she says (About her UN engagements in Africa), that she doesn't "just want to show up somewhere and wave her hand", but get very hands on if her name is attached to it. And I think that really is the crux of the matter. I don't doubt that she does very much care about her causes, probably thought the RF would be a great way to make a difference, but the constraints on how she does charitable work was not her style. She probably thought she could influence the RF to modernise, but they're not the UN - they have a very specific role to play, and it's not the kind she wants.

I don't agree with how she and PH went about the announcement, and I did think the Africa interview was in bad taste (Also the bit where she says that there are no tabloids in North America so she wasn't aware of what to expect...I'm pretty sure the Hollywood paparazzi is notorious!). But mostly I think she and PH are just not a compatible/good match, though they may love another very much. She's very ambitious (something she repeats in that Suits interview), intelligent and used to the freedom of making her own decisions and being accountable for them. He's none of those things, and if he weren't in the RF, he'd definitely be punching.

I think the RF have made the right decision, as have MM and PH. However, I think she will thrive in the new situation and he won't - he's never really had to fend for himself. To that end, I think she was selfish in making it a tough decision he made, between family and wife/child. But again, that is part of her personality and probably what attracted him to her. While I hope things work out for them, I think it's more likely that he will get very unhappy at not receiving the same adulation and respect he gets in the UK (as RF/military), and it will be a struggle as he effectively becomes Mrs. Markle. And will then probably come back to what he knows best. I reckon they're both great separately, it was just a difficult combination to reconcile. It will be interesting to see how their new life does turn out for sure! However, I do appreciate that he has put his wife first, as it's not something a lot of men would do, so even if it all fails, I respect him doing that.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 21/01/2020 11:01

From page 40 of the last thread:

If this was Victoria Beckham the thread would've been pulled. But MM seems to be fair game
Talking of Victoria Beckham, what are people's views on her giving Meghan tips on where to go for hair styling etc in the UK and the info then being out in the public domain?
His did it become public knowledge?

The80sweregreat · 21/01/2020 11:04

So much tittle tattle everywhere with celebs. Must be hard to know who to trust at times.
They make friends then people let them down. Must be a minefield. I would hate it all.

Imstinkyeddie · 21/01/2020 11:05

Good points!

She is def much cleverer than him. And as an American, does things very differently. Not wrongly, but differently.

My eldest son reminded me of a conversation we had a few years ago when I said I thought harry would marry someone from America, possibly a model or actress and it would cause a lot of aggro.

I'm available for functions as "stinkytheincredible". Very cheap 😁

Imstinkyeddie · 21/01/2020 11:06

(I think it was a comvo when &K got wed)

Tricicorn · 21/01/2020 11:07

Shameless place marking. I’m ok apart from being the victim of an awful haircut and feeling dowdy.

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 11:07

How could he think that he could have military patronages from Canada though?

The idea was that they would spend time in Canada and the UK. That still is the idea - but it seems likely that they won't return now.

He will but Meghan will not want to return, IMO.

Interesting that PP is on the press for flogging posh milk to the Chinese today....

Trading on the royal family name is SO crass. Ugh.

Wonder if he wishes his mum had agreed to a title for him!!??
