Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 10:30

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

And I hate to call a kettle a pot, but if you don’t like us then please don’t read us.

The phrase is pot calling kettle black, because both are on the stove getting blackened by the soot from the fire, and yes you are behaving like aforementioned pot.

Since the rags and posters on these threads don't seem to have their own consciences, I'll keep popping in to remind everybody that the constant new threads and gossiping about three people who are humans just like you is pretty despicable behaviour, and that the better way for you to behave is leave them alone and mind your own beeswax.

scaryteacher · 21/01/2020 11:08

notmoresheep It would be a tad identifying to post photos. Iirc, trying to remove the spurs was a ball at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, when dh was a Lieutenant as was the admiring of the rear end. I also spent part of a ball admiring tri service rear ends when dh was on the staff at JSCSC. One had to be very polite to the wife of the Commandant, indeed, one curtsied given who she and her Mum are.

KeepThosePlatesSpinning · 21/01/2020 11:09

Doesn't he have a 12 month cooling off period so he can go back to his duties in a year if he changes his mind.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/01/2020 11:09

.

BeTheRabbit · 21/01/2020 11:09

I think she has got exactly what she wanted and he has been played like a fool.

Bluntness100 · 21/01/2020 11:10

I very much doubt she alerted the paps, they will be camped out side the property.

OVienna · 21/01/2020 11:11

Good day to you all.

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 11:12

she doesn't "just want to show up somewhere and wave her hand", but get very hands on if her name is attached to it. And I think that really is the crux of the matter. I don't doubt that she does very much care about her causes, probably thought the RF would be a great way to make a difference, but the constraints on how she does charitable work was not her style

The work she did with the Grenfell kitchen and cookbook and the return to work wardrobe was admirable. I think there was a real and worthwhile role for her, but of course it takes time.

I also think the unpleasant and negative press would’ve been silenced by deeds not words, but again over time as both Camilla and Kate have done. No one in the public eye has 100% approval but overwhelming the bad by good is the only way to win I suppose.

Piers Morgan would be the exception, but why on earth anyone watches or reads him is beyond me. I hope people start to boycott anything he’s associated with and I hope the latest hacking cases hit hard where it hurts.

LordOfTheWhys · 21/01/2020 11:18

I think she alerted the paps. It's the same agency as before. (Incidentally an agency that H&M complained about and took to court for breaching their privacy - but now M is posing happily for shots with them - presumably because she set the shots up and will be getting paid this time). She's smiling directly at the camera and wrangling the dogs and baby because it's a better shot not because it's practical.

mrscampbellblackagain · 21/01/2020 11:20

Thing is, it is pretty easy for celebs to fly under the radar if they want too. Many do, especially the proper a list. I mean no one would recognise the Clooney twins for example - I have no idea how old they are or anything as they are very much kept away from the press.

Harry and Meghan could do similar and interest would die down pretty quickly. No photos or leaks for a while and interest would vanish.

So will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks really.

MrsDoubtTried · 21/01/2020 11:21

They are out now. The cachet they had is gone. It would have been like Barack and Michelle deciding after 18 months in the White House that they wanted to step back and take a lesser role as there was too much pressure and scrutiny.

It’s not like that at ALL! Obama was an elected leader of the so called free world, fgs. His wife was First Lady and well known and rated by connection.

In contrast, those two are neither of those things.

(Re a point in the previous thread.)

Wheresthebeach · 21/01/2020 11:22

I thought his speech was in poor taste, complaining that he didn't get the deal he wanted. Every statement from the Queen has been as supportive as could be in the circumstances. Instead of him thanking the RF for being flexible and understanding he's complaining again.

I wonder if he has any idea of what he'd really like? More likely he's just going along with MM and is going to get a nasty shock over the amount of coverage coming their way (orchestrated by MM).

And I'm not okay. Been to doctors, now allergic to another antibiotic. Off for testing to try and find an antibiotic I'm not allergic to as I need them for chest infections/asthma. It may be part of why I'm not feeling so sympathetic for the rich and famous....

MrsDoubtTried · 21/01/2020 11:22

She does look deliriously happy to see the paparazzi.

All very confusing.

MrsDoubtTried · 21/01/2020 11:24

Good taste doesn’t get a look in - in any front. This is unbelievable.

notmoresheep · 21/01/2020 11:24

scaryteacher TL and PA? DUncle knew her because horses, he always said she was terrific.

I still love a man in uniform (unfortunately for DH that doesn’t extend to his cycling lycras)

SingingLily · 21/01/2020 11:26

Julie Burchill in last week’s Spectator suddenly getting it too. Love her even more, now.

She writes in the Sunday Telegraph too and it's one of the highlights of my week, Notmoresheep.

I used to think she was just a stubborn contrarian. Now I think she's mostly right.

I'm getting older, clearly.

MrsDoubtTried · 21/01/2020 11:26

CurlyWurlyTwirly
Have been meaning to say you talk sense.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/01/2020 11:28

I'm not sure Meghan is as highly intelligent as people think. I think she is moderately intelligent, and highly articulate. Those aren't the same thing.

There is no doubt that she is a very hard worker and has boundless energy and enthusiasm for things she's interested in. Both great qualities. I think her powers of reasoning and judgment seem quite flawed though and we are seeing evidence of this time and time again.

bohemia14 · 21/01/2020 11:30

I've just read the Julie Burchill article. Very interesting. The Grabdication!!

notmoresheep · 21/01/2020 11:30

SingingLily as a stubborn contrarian myself (or to quote my elderly DM a ‘cynical arsehole’) I’d go with being always right 😂. And also old.

peridito · 21/01/2020 11:30

Would like to note anyone coming on to chastise about these threads or raise the PA issue please royally fuck off. It’s a thread in the royal family about the former(?) members of that family, go and police other threads with this tcrbiscuit brew

Why so rude ? What's with the swearing ? Why unable to accept that some want to post to say something you don't agree with ?

H& M are real people ,if some of us don't like the criticism they are getting and say so why should we be told to remove ourselves ? Are yours the only voices that must be heard ?

I guess you could add to the title of the thread - Warning ,this is an echo chamber .Dissenting views will not be tolerated

I get that it's not welcome ,but I started reading these threads out of interest but quickly realised how biaised and critical many of the posts are . If I want to comment on that I shall . If I see something I think is unfair/wrong in life I may well decide to comment on it ,talk to the person who I think is misinformed . I dislike being told to ignore things that I think are wrong .

I'm sure many on these threads would not wish to be told that they can't comment on what they think is wrong ,neither do I .
