Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 10:30

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Give it a rest peridito.

I am not "speaking for everyone", as I already said.

I am giving my own, personal opinion. Nobody need agree.

These threads are getting boring

Then don't read them.

I have a feeling that this story is not going to go away. There are always peaks and troughs in people's lives.

I think Natalie Campbell is starting a new job with a water company.

Apparently she originally came from the Cambridges.

OVienna · 22/01/2020 11:37

My cat is fucking amazing and should be shown!

peridito · 22/01/2020 11:37

Apologies - mislead by the certainty of the statement "I'm not in danger of being accused of trying to control .."

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 11:37

I think I need to follow my own advice about SCOLDS and just ignore this one.

OVienna, I'm crushed by my cat conversation being deemed boring.

It wasn't flaming boring when he woke me up at 5.21 this morning. In fact, I was about as far from bored as you can get.

You have my total sympathy.

7Worfs · 22/01/2020 11:42

Kate arriving in Cardiff, has front pages for now.
I shall complete her questionnaire later tonight.
Hope no more distractions appear today, especially around 2pm when North America wakes up.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 11:42

Please don't be crushed SingingLily as many of us are fascinated by your cat's sleeping habits.

waiting to hear that this is me trying to control the thread

I wonder who the Royal source was?

And what form the legal notice took? Because I suppose that as their step back is meant to be taking effect from some unspecified date in the spring, they want the British press to continue to uphold the 'don't publish pap shots' voluntary agreement. Wouid they really have a strong legal case to inhibit the publication of a photograph widely in the public domain, taken when the subjects are in a place where there would be no expectation of privacy?

The Sun ran the naked Harry Vegas pix, which were not pap but were taken at a private party, after they had been widely circulated in US and elsewhere and were freely available online, citing their readily availability as part of the justification, With increased interest in North America, there may well be more pap interest and non-British publication, and that international coverage may well replay here and when they officially step back (is there a set date?) they might need to renegotiate their own 'press hold back' agreements

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 11:46

I wonder if there actually are any "Press hold back" agreements?

OP posts:
Wheresthebeach · 22/01/2020 11:46

I do wonder if all sorts of pics that have been held back will start popping up...

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 22/01/2020 11:47

Does anyone know whether 2 Protection Officers for a dog walk is the norm? Obviously I don't understand the risk assessment but 2 POs seems excessive for day to day duties? If so that souls explain why the estimated security bills are so huge. Does that also mean Harry has 2 at all times? Does that then mean they take 4 when out together doing normal things?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/01/2020 11:49

I thought "Merchie" was a very funny comment in the moment, and he is an eight month old baby who will neither know or care. I don't think it should or will stick, and I'm sure the poster didn't intend it to.

I'm not keen on nicknames generally as I think they can encourage bullying even if not intended by the originator.

It took me a long time to stop calling MM the Duchess of Sussex as I thought using her pre-married name sounded a bit dismissive. However I think Meghan Markle is the name she is best identified by now and that's what I'm going with.

MarySidney · 22/01/2020 11:52

One for Meghan and one for Archie, perhaps? Or one for backup in case the first one is incapacitated?

mpsw · 22/01/2020 11:55

No one will provide that level of detail on close protection measures, MummyOfBoyAndGirl

They have a very high standard of protectin, and tactical decisions on who does what (and in what numbers) on any articulate day will be decided by them.

People want to know how our hard-earned taxes are spent, so something of the big picture of how much it costs is a far public interest. The public might be curious about the details of how that security is delivered, but we really don't need to know a level that could compromise effectiveness. This set up is new, and I think they are right to keep operational detail private (at least until it all settles down, by which point it will have become more obvious as it will have been seen in action)

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 11:59

The agreement between the British press and the Royal Family is - as far as I know - a voluntary agreement. Even so, it must contain a definition of those to whom it applies.

Do H&M still have protection under that agreement? And even if they do, does it apply to reproducing foreign pap shots? Especially if - and it's still an "if" - the subject of the pap shot might have arranged it?

That's a potential court case on a par with the one against the MoS. It might result in a technical win for H&M but an awful lot of dirty laundry would be aired publicly in the process.

No one but a self-obsessed self-absorbed self-indulgent fame-seeker would even go there.

Mustress, how can you be accused of being controlling when you can't even stop your cat from waking you up at some ungodly hour this morning? I think you are being maligned.

bluebell34567 · 22/01/2020 12:04

'listen to my version, sorry it has come to this, we wanted to do this but they didnt let us', blah, blah, blah.
me, me, me. look at me how beaautiful i am. all for to make to a billion dollars, nothing else. good for them.

I just love that the royal reporters are highlighting these things now.

Newspapers too.

The gloves are definitely off.

Wheresthebeach · 22/01/2020 12:21

This is a great comment:
Her friends quoted her, "she will visit many small Canadian charities as she wants to be embraced by the community, which she wasn't in the UK." Her core essence & drive exposed: She wants to BE embraced; not 'she wants to embrace the causes & charities'. Important distinction.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 12:23

Unfortunately it’s a thread too late, but Prince Charles will be arriving at the Davos Summit in an Electric Car

Who knew he was a mumsnetter ? and is giving us a sign Grin

GlitchStitch · 22/01/2020 12:26

As soon as I saw the Kate headlines I went straight to the Sussex Instagram, I just knew there would be something new. The fact it's been sat on for at least a week surely suggests deliberate timing?

I've just filled out Kate's survey anyway, it's a good initiative and deserves support.

user1471590586 · 22/01/2020 12:32

I can't get my head around the fact that Meghan will remain a Duchess of a country that she isn't actually a citizen of. She clearly won't spend enough time in the UK to qualify for citizenship. I also think if they ever did split then Archie would remain in Canada/ US with Meghan as that's where his life is. Can't see Harry ever coming back here and leaving his child.

MrsDoubtTried · 22/01/2020 12:35

I’m seriously miffed at these thrashy, attention-whoring attempts to hijack the spotlight.

You have to pity people who behave like this, really. I think the opposite effect will be achieved, in fact. The serious Royals are continuing to do things in the way they have always been done - and one or two childish, sulky attempts to grab a tiny bit of limelight are not going to inflict any damage.
