Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Mmmm do wonder who she was looking at if the photographer was in the bushes - anyway bum move threatening to sue - I'd ride it out and see if interest wanes naturally - or wear the same tracky bottoms constantly so they can only get the same style of shot - me walking the dogs, me walking the dogs again and again and again Wink

I'm still laughing at the guy doing an impression of Meghan

'They were like Meghan Markle, don't high five the waiter'
" I was like, Why not? These are bomb arse zucchini chips'

I'm not comparing them, it's Harry and Meghans anti British press obsession that gets me, do they think North America is going to be a utopian dream of no paps? The British press have struck deals with the RF and to be fair they have been largely left alone, George and Charlotte get taken to school everyday by William or Catherine and yet not one British tabloid has ever printed a photo of them doing it, (apart from the official first day ones) I imagine it wouldn't be difficult to do so, but they don't.

You will not find the Enquirer even in the US top 10.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 01:07

The British press have been utterly vile toward Meghan Markle and to a lesser extent Harry. I imagine they will increase their hatred of Harry now
Had they been a tiny bit fair or honest about them perhaps this would not have happened.
Saying that they have an arrangement makes it seem as though they went easy on them somehow. It was a calculated campaign of lies, to feed the worst in society and orchestrated to have them bow to them and drop their legal case to get them off their backs.
They did not do so and I’m glad

There are idiots everywhere claiming their baby is a doll or that she and e aren’t in Canada
They need protection from how the media have manipulated public opinion

Chocpear · 22/01/2020 01:18

The British tabloids stuck to the agreement for the British press not to publish unauthorised pictures of any of the Royal family including Meghan and Harry but their coverage has been increasingly vitriolic for the last year towards Meghan. I don’t know why, perhaps she annoyed them, perhaps they knew it would sell papers...

Teddy1970 · 22/01/2020 01:29

Meghan hasn't exactly helped herself though, the ridiculously expensive baby shower in NY, clearing an area at Wimbledon so she didn't have to sit next to the plebs, getting one of her minders to stop taking photos of her when he clearly wasn't, of course it's going to piss people off, anyway got to be up in the morning so nighty night!

Chocpear · 22/01/2020 01:37

Fair points Teddy and may explain why the tabloids used this to pursue the MM is precious narrative which was vicious and I suspect not proportionate to whatever she was perceived to be doing.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 01:42

Her baby shower was noone’s business, first of all
Secondly it was wildly wrongly reported, in both cost and attendance
The innocent photographer would have put anyone off and we would have queried her protection had he not spoken to him.
The laughable excuse of getting that close to photograph something else was the oldest, photo a celeb, trick in the book
Imagine people thinking that is okay?

You were there then?

chaineater · 22/01/2020 02:40

In the photo he’s literally taking a selfie, @RonaldMcDonald which somewhat disproves your point!

SpanishLady · 22/01/2020 02:43

To be fair Ronald - the Seats/rows at Wimbledon are narrow so if you wanted to take a selfie of you and the court you would need to hold your arms out like that - but generally I felt this was all a storm in a tea cup - she can't really think people aren't looking at her and people really can't think she is more interesting than the tennis esp if Serena playing!!

Touché - Alexa

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 03:39

@AlexaAmbidextra no, it is a matter of document as it is part of the case against the Mail
But - actually even if it were true, which it isn’t, what does it matter what someone’s friends spend on them? How is it ever our business? Struggling unless it is based around jealousy

I have been to Wimbledon, I’m aware of the seating. I don’t believe for a moment he wasn’t going to flip the lense.
Even if I were not a public person I wouldn’t like a man to come up that close to me and my girlfriends and seem to be taking pictures.
You’re pretending if you say otherwise.

This was again part of absolute nonsense put about to smear Meghan, she does not tell her protection staff how to behave. When Kate was shopping and her protection asked for no photographs, it was classy Kate. There is very definitely an agenda.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/01/2020 03:51

To be fair there was a lot of vitriolic press coverage aimed at Meghan which on the whole was unfair & uncalled for.
In fact most of the female members of the Royal Family have been targeted in their early days & it's been expected that they put up & shut up, which is also wrong.

Now regardless of whether Meghan was the most kindest warm hearted person out there or the most vainest self centred person out there, the press nastiness was uncalled for.
e.g to report that the part of LA Meghan grew up in is just normal not a super swanky rich part of LA, & she lived in a modest apartment with her Mom is truthful & not nasty or critical.
But to embellish & twist it & write that Meghan grew up in a dive above a garage in a gang controlled ghetto full of drugs & violence etc is just not true & nasty.

I'm referring to this straight out of Compton rubbish as she didn't live in Compton, it was a few miles away.
This is like inferring the Queen used to live in a notorious red light district full of drugs & crime as Buckingham Palace is less than 4 miles away from Kings Cross Station. (Pre Kings X regeneration)

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/01/2020 03:58

Finally if it is true that Meghan is not courting the press/playing cat & mouse with them, then yes the press need to be held to account.
But then if Meghan is arranging all her pap coverage/playing cat & mouse then she can't moan about it.

We'll all find out the truth eventually.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 03:59

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

SpanishLady · 22/01/2020 04:16

Ultimately supposition Ronald - you simply don't know he was going to switch the lens. So please consider that when criticising other people also making suppositions! Which we all do everyday 🧐

In terms of FACTS - he was taking a selfie and someone on her behalf (doesn't mean her instruction) thought he was photographing her and asked him not to.

I don't know the Compton stuff - shall look it up

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/01/2020 05:36

The Compton comment was appalling, no question. I've never seen anyone trying to defend it. The other really objectionable comment was about her "exotic" DNA being added to the royal bloodline. Again, DM.

Re the man taking the Wimbledon photo, the image WAS flipped, there was a close up of his screen clearly showing the court, not Meghan.

@CurlyWurlyTwirly exactly.

She is a master manipulator.

SpanishLady · 22/01/2020 06:11

Are we sure the baby carrier people are not using her? Abit like STOW (travel wallet) the orange organiser thingy she's been pictured carrying - doesn't it sometimes work as:

I am famous and wearing a certain shirt

Shirt makers start using my photo or name to sell more

Or/

I am famous and someone sends me something I like so wear it

Makers start using my image/name

Happens with George and Charlottesville clothes all the time.

Of course diff story if being paid to appear to have chosen to wear/use etc but nice if you get something for free and actually do like it 👍

I don't mind her being paid to wear the baby carrier -(if even true) that's more about her being a high profile mum than royal per se

If the stuff about asking vic beck for freebies/discounts is true that's again not of itself outrageous but for someone supposedly your friend abit Blush but that's just me....

SpanishLady · 22/01/2020 06:12

Auto correct - it's just Charlotte

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/01/2020 06:25

I agree @SpanishLady, I don't mind what they sell as long as they don't describe themselves as royal when doing so. As private citizens they are welcome to make money any way they like.

It still irks me that we are expected to pay for their security. I suppose Merchie needs protecting but honestly who's going to kidnap M&A and expect to get a ransom now? Hopefully that will be part of future negotiations as they move out of the royal orbit completely.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/01/2020 06:27

*M&H, not M&A

missyoumuch · 22/01/2020 06:44

Who the hell is “TorontoPaper” and why is he/she a trusted source?

I wish I’d never clicked that link, people on Twitter are disgusting.

WinnieTheW0rm · 22/01/2020 06:50

If the only source of merchandising claims is that Twitter feed, I'd take it with a huge pinch of salt. Many of the claims on there are deleted from this thread.

And yes, just as ZP used her non-Royal equestrian career as springboard to commercial deal (in one with what other equestrians and sports people get) it would be absolutely fine for MM to have deals similar to those held by actors of her screen CV.
