Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Toronto paper is quite unhinged.

AuntieStella · 22/01/2020 07:11

The Duchess of Cambridge is in the news this morning, as she is visiting a number of places over the coming days icw children's mental health (I think - only half listening, but it's definitely children's welfare of some sort)

Planeplane · 22/01/2020 07:13

Morning all! Hope everyone is ok.
Just couldn't let this one go...

Milli Hill, bestselling author of The Positive Birth Book who is appearing at The Baby Show in London next month, said:

I wouldn't listen to a word she says, I think she's an actual bully. She's been a Meghan cheerleader since M said all that about not wanting male drs at her birth. I used to be on twitter and dared to enter a discussion on natural birth just to say that I was grateful for the quick medical intervention that saved my life and she organised such a pile on of all her supporters that I ended up deleting my account. I've seen it happen to other people too.

Ah well. Impressed with Kate's new study on early years development. Pity it's been pushed right down the news. Wonder if we'll see anything new today.

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 07:21

Just checking in again after a busy day yesterday.

Also to mention that MWX Trading was registered on 22 August at Companies House. The directors are Natalie Campbell (who resigned as a director of the Sussex Royal Foundation the same day) and Gerrard Tyrrell who is a “media and defamation lawyer”.

The “person with significant control” of MWX Trading is the Sussex Royal Foundation with 75% of the shares and 75% of the votes.

Why the interest?

It's the timing. 22 August was just three days after H&M returned from Elton John's modest little pied-a-terre in the South of France. The fourth journey by private jet in eleven days. All this at a time when H&M declined HMQ's invitation to spend some time at Balmoral insisting that Archie was "too young to travel".

I'm of the view that it's not what people say that tells you who they are, it's what they do.

The Great Escape has been planned for a long time. Is there any reason to believe that this post-escape period has not also been planned?

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 07:22

Oops sorry, forgot to ask if everyone was OK.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 22/01/2020 07:24

Duchess of Cambridge was second headline on BBC breakfast this morning.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/01/2020 07:26

That's very interesting, @SingingLily.

I share your philosophy btw.

OVienna · 22/01/2020 07:29

SingingLady apart from another night of shouting from the cat, I'm fine. Also, DH owned up to the fact that he wasn't totally sure what bird it was the barber shot. I had meant to get a photo but he'd carved. Def avian though.

Please can the next three be called: "what the barber shot?"

Excellent CH work btw.

OVienna · 22/01/2020 07:30

"Thred" sorry.

Aloha, to the rest of you. Hope you're OK, too.

Berrymuch · 22/01/2020 07:32

I think if they had said that they wanted to leave in order to bring Archie up away from public glare and be a family with some privacy then fair enough. But they want to build a brand which relies solely on who they are, and maintaining a presence in the press helps that, but yet they moan and threaten to sue when that happens. The same as the baby shower and private jets, they could have lived a life of luxury, but because they were doing speeches about thinking of the poor and saving the planet, people were annoyed by it. I think Meghan is beautiful, intelligent, she seems passionate about causes, and I'm guessing plenty of other attributes, but it's not hard to see why people are a bit sick of the hypocrisy and wanting the cake and eating it. Even the A list will become annoyed if they think they are above the paparazzi (who are all scum), because it's always been seen as acceptable to hound them as it's 'part of the job', wrongly.

Berrymuch · 22/01/2020 07:34

Harry is a grown man who is capable of making his own decisions, not sure why everyone blames Meghan. Although if it was the other way round and people perceived Harry as being the one to lead leaving (he might have been of course anyway); I wonder if people would have been touring her as supportive, and how wonderful it was that she was being supportive. Because that's what women are supposed to do apparently.

cathyandclare · 22/01/2020 07:34

as ZP used her non-Royal equestrian career as springboard to commercial deal (in one with what other equestrians and sports people get) it would be absolutely fine for MM to have deals similar to those held by actors of her screen CV.

I think it's impossible to use simple screen/ riding CVs as an indication of worth for Zara, Meghan or indeed anyone else. Profile always comes into it.

Pippa Funnel for example gets great equestrian and other sponsorship, but nothing to compare to the Landrover and Rolex dealss* that Zara negotiated.

For actresses, beauty and fame make a massive difference. I mean If Liz Hurley hadn't gone out with Hugh Grant and worn that dress she wouldn't have had an Estée Lauder deal.

If I were a make-up or skincare brand I'd definitely think of signing Meghan. She's stunning, she glows and she's one of the most famous/Googled women in the world.

SingingLily · 22/01/2020 07:41

Morning all, morning OVienna,

apart from another night of shouting from the cat, I'm fine.

I don't like to boast, but my shouting cat gave me the luxury of a lie-in this morning. He woke me up at 5.21 instead of 5.16.

This is why I have time on my hands to search the CH website.

Excellent suggestion for the next thread title but could we add "and shouting cats"?

And yes, I do realise that someone will be along to scold me later for my levity. Grin

WineOrGinOrBoth · 22/01/2020 07:44

IIRC Hugh Grant said in a programme that they had asked a lot of designers for an outfit for Liz Hurley to wear. The only dress forthcoming was ‘that dress’.

I hope the paps lay off now - I don’t know if it was staged or not but I’m getting increasingly uncomfortable with the whole thing. Too reminiscent of Diana for me.

I also wonder whether it the younger people who think H&M are great for walking away whilst some of us older & wiser ones are more about duty. Just my view.

Nikhedonia · 22/01/2020 07:45

I can't believe how like him Meghan was before she had her nose job

She's had a nose job? The side profile shows a very bumpy nose?

phpolly · 22/01/2020 07:53

I believe she's had her nose thinned/narrowed - it used to be more bulbous at the end (like her father's)

Rinoachicken · 22/01/2020 08:19

I am very pleased that the BBC has dropped their coverage of Harry and Meghan’s latest legal game off their news app completely, in favour of promoting Kate’s launch of an early years national survey.

Surely that’s only doing ‘what they wanted’. And Kate works hard on her projects and she and those who work behind the scenes with her deserve for them to get the recognition and promotion they deserve.

MeghanMountbattenSausage · 22/01/2020 08:22

Morning.

I think they ought to stay put on Vancouver island and not come out for a couple of months.

Coronavirus has now arrived in North America. So I reckon those pap jaunts ought to be kept to a minimum.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 08:23

Meghan has posted on Sussex a Royal Instagram again

This visit to the Mayhew, was 2 weeks ago before she left the UK.
Looking at the clothes she is wearing, it was also the day she went to the National theatre and took the flight back to Canada.

I suspect now that Harry is back there won’t be pap opportunities.
Maybe I’ve misjudged him and he’s called her bluff, threatened a legal letter, because there are elements of the new lifestyle he does want to make work:
Peace & Privacy; earning his own money in a legitimate way.
He’s got a TV show on mental health with Oprah on Apple TV.

Butterymuffin · 22/01/2020 08:24

I can't believe how like him Meghan was before she had her nose job

I'm very like my dad, including the nose, and I imagine if I'd aspired to a career on screen I'd probably have had a nose job Grin That's one of her very understandable decisions.

Agree that she would be a great face of a make up or skincare brand. Her skin is just amazing.

Haven't seen Kate's project yet but good to see things about the wellbeing of young children getting attention.

StartupRepair · 22/01/2020 08:27

Great timing to drop another Sussex photo just as Kate's initiative gets going.

MeghanMountbattenSausage · 22/01/2020 08:33

@CurlyWurlyTwirly

Why post on Instagram about something that happened weeks ago? Because no pap opportunities in Vancouver today and they want to keep those adoring comments coming.

Eventually they're going to start running out of "Royal" photos and have to start re-posting stuff from the Royal Wedding.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 22/01/2020 08:38

The Duchess of Cambridge is in the news this morning, as she is visiting a number of places over the coming days icw children's mental health (I think - only half listening, but it's definitely children's welfare of some sort)
She is in the news because she has launched a Childhood survey for under 5s and has just performed 4 engagements in the past 24 hours in relation to it.
Just as well it wasn't publicised in advance as Meghan would probably have gone for another walk and tipped off paps to try and knock Kate off today's papers.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/01/2020 08:42

That's done it for me now. And there was I hoping the naysayers were wrong.
But I've finally flipped to the other side.
There was no bloody need to post anything on the Sussex Instagram today apart from a cheer supporting Kate's early years initiative.
Oh look at me aren't I bloody fabulous, the Mayhew story could have waited until tomorrow if it wasn't considered important enough to have been released the other week.
Now that's just plain malicious jealousy at play.
What is she 5?
