Harry and Meghan - "It Has Come To This"

These are the words of Prince Harry. He sounded defeated. He has lost his military patronages. He is no longer living anywhere near his brother or father. He is moving to Canada.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been photographed in the park, with Archie and the dogs, beaming. It seems that she alerted the paparazzi herself. Meghan has truly got what Meghan wants.

I wonder what they said to one another when he got back?

Says who? A source?

They will indeed be reviewing the security as their role has changed.

ThroughTheRoses · 21/01/2020 23:34

If they are no longer to be considered "Royal" (and that is very much an "if" I think - I'm not totally clear on their status going forward), then what is the case for the public to continue funding their security arrangements? Particularly their security arrangements in their private day to day life?

GoFiguire · 21/01/2020 23:35

I’m a bit cross at the BBC, actually, COD that’s my license fee they’re wasting on the Unhappy Couple.

Netflix here I come.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/01/2020 23:35

Poor baby “Merchie“

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/01/2020 23:40

As a pp said, walking in Windsor Great Park Meghan wouldn't have been papped.

Or paid

RonaldMcDonald · 21/01/2020 23:40

They continue to be royal, simply not senior royals.
The protection is seamless and the threat level given some of the loons posting will ensure their that it continues.
I’m unfortunately sure they and Archie will be receiving death threats

MrsBrentford · 21/01/2020 23:40

Woko Ono and Merchie Grin

TheMustressMhor · 21/01/2020 23:46

Bonne nuit, tout le monde.

@RonaldMcDonald ...err the Met have stated that .

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 21/01/2020 23:58

Meghan knows exactly what to do if she didn't want to be papped.

For god sake Kate manages to get out fairly frequently with the children and does not get papped .

October half term she was seen in Sainsburys choosing Halloween outfit for the children. She then paid on the basket till . Her bodyguard just had a quiet polite word with those around not to take photos and hey presto privacy maintained.

Except meghan doesn't want privacy.

choli · 22/01/2020 00:00

Meghan walking in that park - honest to goodness who walks in a park witn a smile like that plastered on their face when they are out on their own (albeit with security).
In Megan's situation I would probably have a huge smile permanently on my face from sheer relief at being out of the UK.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 00:04

Kate has stopped announcing her engagements in advance to prevent being upstaged.

However now Harry’s home, those random photo ops will probably be curtailed.
I think it’s going to be a bit quiet on the photo front until there is a legitimate opportunity.( charity / merchandising)
Megs is going to be going stir crazy in the beautiful peace, quiet and isolation of Vancouver island

Chocpear · 22/01/2020 00:04

By nature of Harry’s birth into the royal family he will always be a security risk whether he has stepped down from royal duties or not, so whatever the thoughts on his choices he and his family require security.

Bouledeneige · 22/01/2020 00:05

The relief wont last. There's no restraint on the press there - no Royal Correspondents code (and anyway they're not Royal Family anymore - tellingly nearly wrote Loyal Family!). Just tons of press from around the world wanting to follow them and pap them. And yet - since she arrived in the UK not a single pap photo. What have they done?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 00:09

Re: the paps; they’ll both be fucked off for different reasons.
Harry because he genuinely wants to escape into privacy and Meghan because she is not being paid for the snaps.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 00:10

Toronto paper has tweeted

I wonder what these “ unpaid debts” are?

BlokeTarget · 22/01/2020 00:15

Happy wife= happy life.

She got what she wanted. The ex-Prince and the life she craved.

Kudos to her , and the empire she has built Grin

missyoumuch · 22/01/2020 00:20

Yes, I'm sick of the British press getting the bloody blame for everything when we know that the North American press is ruthless...National Enquirer anyone?

The National Enquirer is a third rate publication, no one even vaguely respectable would be caught dead reading it or admitting to reading it.

The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror are mainsteam widely read "newspapers" and have a much higher profile.

They cannot be compared.

The only American equivalent to British tabloids is the New York Post, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch as well. But it's mainly regional focusing on New York City gossip.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 00:21

I’ve been reading some of the comments in the Toronto Paper tweet.

The thinking is the papping with Merchie is to make sure they (keep free) security.
The Canadians definitely don’t want to pay for them and they’re probably going to become a political issue for Trudeau.
Meghan owes taxes to the IRS. Probably due to cash she’s been earning from side gigs and channeling through their foundation.
That’s probably why she’s been touting for voice over work; to pay her tax bill.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 00:34

Your debts are no longer paid I’d in reference to them not being paid by the sovereign grant....
Fgs

Again, their security is assessed by government, not them.
This isn’t difficult

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2020 00:37

However, thank you to the link to Toronto paper
The level of poorly informed obsession on there makes this thread seem reasonable and fair

Froq · 22/01/2020 00:45

Yet you not only read but also follow the links posted on a thread you’re not keen on Grin
Ok.

Grandmi · 22/01/2020 00:45

I really do not have any opinions about Meghan and Harry but Meghan looks so much happier and relaxed ...she definitely needed a break from all the criticism !!

MustangsDraggedMeAway · 22/01/2020 00:47

I see 'papers' such as the National Enquirer, the Globe and The Star at the check-outs. I'm not sure they are the same as the DM because I'm too embarrassed to flip through them, but looking at the cover they make the DM look like The Times. Apparently women are getting impregnated by aliens from outer space and other such malarky.
