Thread Nine.

How will they react to this?

I think forbidding them to use their HRHs is a genius move from the Queen, she'll hold their titles like the Sword of Damocles over their heads. One wrong step then they'll be stripped of the HRH. That way, when they divorce Meghan won't even be able to call herself Duchess of Sussex?

ajandjjmum · 18/01/2020 19:27

That is the least of her failings maidenover

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 19:28
  • BP not yet commenting on the subject of Harry and Meghan's security arrangements.

That still needs to be clarified.*

Wonder if the announcement that Andrew's right to royal protection officers was rushed out to set the benchmark?

Bet he's fizzing too.

MrsBrentford · 18/01/2020 19:28

I think it’s sad tbh Xmas Smile

SunsetBoulevard3 · 18/01/2020 19:29

It dodges the question of who will pay for security. How can Harry and Meghan keep their patronages if they are no longer working Royals?
Nothing about making money trading off their former status or selling merchandise.
Nothing about who will fund them going forward.

It looks strong, but not strong enough.
What is the point of keeping Frogmore? They are never going to be there!

MrsBrentford · 18/01/2020 19:29

Sorry meant Sad Blush

Grasspigeons · 18/01/2020 19:29

@picklemepopcorn - There was a time when he wanted a fairly 'normal' life flying helicopters but he is the heir not the spare and duty called. I can see The Sussex branch creating a much nicer life for their children and grandchildren, amassing a huge personal wealth. The USA iscmassive compared to the UK.

Longwhiskers14 · 18/01/2020 19:29

They're still using HRH on their website because the changes don't kick in until Spring 2020 according to the statement.

I think overall it's a win for the Queen. What's more shocking than them losing their titles is them having to "step back from all Royal duties, including military appointments". So Harry will no longer be Captain General of his beloved Marines, a title he took over from Prince Philip and all other honorary military titles. He must really love Meghan to walk away from everything he's held dear for years.

SinglePringle · 18/01/2020 19:29

Bet any one of them that started Dry January has given up.

“Queen Mother sized G&T, Jeeves. Quick fucking smart”

maidenover · 18/01/2020 19:29

@ajandjjmum I think something just went over your head.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 18/01/2020 19:29

Well I must say @TheMustressMhor that I think that is most self indulgent of you. Quite selfish really!

Eating well is one thing, doing so without sharing in such a flagrant manner is very rude and unbecoming for a hostess which is what you became when you started the threadAngry

(are there no scraps left? )

They're going to keep "private patronages".

I imagine Invinctus is a private patronage.

He's going to be known as Harry Duke of Sussex and she'll be known as Meghan Duchess of Sussex.

I don't think they're gonna worry about money. Her book deal will be $$$ and then there'll be the inevitable Netflix/Amazon deal to produce and front/narrate educational documentaries.

They'll have 30 million in 2 years.

I think the question of who pays for security has been dodged for now because initially Canada said it would be prepared to foot bill for when they were living there but there's been a backlash from the public.

I think this is a win for H&M. Nobody in the US cares about the HRH. If they're the duke and duchess, it's game on for the money spinning.

^^
This..... more unedifying money grabbing to follow.

MrsBrentford · 18/01/2020 19:31

I doubt very much she drinks.

Too much of a control freak.

I really doubt that he expected this outcome.

I also doubt that his marriage will survive.

You wanted her to return the £2.5m, they will. You wanted her to step off royal duties completely, she has. You accuse her of using the "racist card" , but her race is at the heart of it all.

You should all be happy then.

Oh as if. Get real. Who do you mean by the collective you?

For the monarchy, the country and the constitution, this is a complex and damaging event, which needs very careful resolution. It looks and sounds like a sideshow but it's absolutely not, for the Crown and for the individuals' lives.

Lunde · 18/01/2020 19:32

I really don't think that they are going to comment publicly on the security issue. If they announce it is being scaled back they will be accused of putting a target on them and inviting attacks.

However I don't doubt that the fact that announcing that PA's security was being scaled back with the motivation that he was no longer carrying out official duties was as close as you will get to a statement that H&M will be getting reduced security. It will be fine for their day to day lives and charity events - but it will limit them if they have ambitions to stage "Royal-style" tours to dangerous parts of the World

Froq · 18/01/2020 19:32

So much for their explanatory website and statement they released a couple of weeks ago Grin that didn’t last long.

strictlymomdancing · 18/01/2020 19:32

Rebecca English says Harry is keeping his HRH but not using it - just as I thought. She also says that by talking about the Queen's values, they are saying they will make money but be careful about how they do it. Not embarrass the queen.

TheMustressMhor · 18/01/2020 19:33

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook

It is with regret that I have to inform you that DH has just eaten the last morsel of the peach crumble.

It was jolly good, even though I say so myself.

SingingLily Grin. Genuinely hadn’t seen that!

And Mrs Brentford it was a joke... although I expect Charlie, William, Harry and HM are seeing the bottom of a decent glass right now.

ajandjjmum · 18/01/2020 19:34

So Meghan won't be turning her journal of meetings with different members of the RF into a book? That's good news.
