You'd think the royal family would have learnt their lesson after the last American who married in and caused havoc! light hearted comment

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 21:14

Prince Charles has actually quite a strong opinion on climate change, I can't see him flying over once a month.

He understands that some of his job comes with carbon footprint but tries to minimise his own personal footprint apparently. William is said to have the same attitude.

GoFiguire · 19/01/2020 21:15

So what happens now?

GlitchStitch · 19/01/2020 21:18

Yes I know Charles can go and visit, it was more a comment on the fact that having been out of the country for 7 weeks they then left Archie there rather than bring him back with them so he could see his extended family/ grandparents for a couple of days.

SecondRatePony · 19/01/2020 21:18

If anything the RF have taught us recently it is you are in or you are out. There is no halfway house

Which prompts an interesting question... if the rumours about HMQ retiring at 95 were true, does this mess make that less possible because it might feel too much like a repeat? - obviously though that vastly different circumstances and after many, many more years of service.

Has H&Ms decision locked the Queen into working until she drops?

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 19/01/2020 21:21

So what happens now?

Not much.

The Duke has some meetings in Britain this week, and at some point will fly to Canada. Between now and the start of the next tax year, there may or may not be public appearances. Then in spring, they cease to be working royals, and at some point their new endeavours will become apparent

StartupRepair · 19/01/2020 21:21

Does keeping their patronages in UK mean that they can pop back for a fully funded visit whenever they feel like it on the grounds of checking in with their patronages? Nice deal.

Chocpear · 19/01/2020 21:26

@StartupRepair, I don’t think so as it says they can only keep their private patronages which will not be considered to be royal duties?

FlickingVees · 19/01/2020 21:34

Back to PA. I think he can’t be served papers or arrested when he’s in the presence of HMtQ. So he’s clinging to her like a limpet- he has said however that he’ll answer questions, here on UK soil.
Remember he hasn’t been charged with anything. Innocent till proven guilty

I don’t want to have the thread deleted by saying how I feel about him, and his wife’s grabby, grubby shenanigans. I doubt Beatrice or Eugenie will be promoted. They haven’t got the chops for it... Beatrice especially.

I did like Eugeine and Jack’s wedding, and both her dresses, and was horrified at CF mardy cah MM’s rude coat flick announcement on their big day, but I think they’re better off just working for a living... too many bad associations with their parents I’m afraid.

Hope everyone is OK this evening?

GoFiguire · 19/01/2020 21:37

Meanwhile, in Piers Morgan’s bedroom...

When I think about it, we might respect the RF, well some do! But realistically we don't really care or see what they do, a lot of it is local and low key apart from the big occasions.

So when this all dies down, they will just revert to type, do their understated duties and go and have a lie down and say, thank God that's done for today, my hand is sore from shaking it with so many + a plastered on smile.

The next generation RF is slowly ever so slowly removing itself from this I think. Times are changing anyway. Too much intrusion from SM and so on. No escape.

Will be interesting to see how they work it out.

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 21:39

SecondRatePoney HMQ will not step down. I think towards the end like with any monarch she will be kept inside and comfortable whilst her heirs carry on with their duty. PC will take over duties like the opening of parliament if she is too unwell to attend.

She won't retire, she will literally just become too unwell to attend things. I can't see any formal retirement or Prince Regent business happening.

ajandjjmum · 19/01/2020 21:43

CallmeAngelina
You're the first person I've heard/seen mention that - I thought exactly the same.

kinsss · 19/01/2020 21:55

King Charles is next for vitriol and exposure. But I don't give a fk. Someone will still iron his newspapers whilst he and Camilla live in separate houses. Best recipe for a long relationship!

I doubt Anne is living the dream with her second husband either. But I don't know.

The RF is just like the rest of us, ups, downs, difficulties, happy days now and then. But they are buffetted by their fortune and PR gurus and all the rest of it.

I think their days are numbered quite frankly.

FlickingVees · 19/01/2020 22:04

Ha ha GoFigure.
Hell hath no fury like a fellow-narc ghosted.

Hepsibar · 19/01/2020 22:05

It will all be a sad little blip. Even if they do a massive talkshow expedition, once theyve done a few no one will be interested. I hope the y really do want to live anonymously and enjoy their new life pattern.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 19/01/2020 22:06

Slight diversion but one of dhs friends has been married for over 30 years. His wife says the secret of their happy & long marriage is - separate homes & seeing each other at weekends only. They don’t talk to each other every day either. Clearly it works for them!!

FlickingVees · 19/01/2020 22:09

Oh I think M&H will buy a few holiday homes for the newspapers yet Kinsss.

I don’t think the vitriol for them will end just cos they’re not in the UK to receive it personally with their eggs and soldiers.

I doubt anyone else will be in their crosshairs here for quite sometime, as their main ‘source’ has fled!

There’s so much to dig up on Markle, they’ll be busy in that trench for years.

strictlymomdancing · 19/01/2020 22:10

BULLSHIT HARRY!

"no other option", "didn't have a choice" (source bbc news)

You've been planning it for months! touting for business! It was always meghans your plan to make money.

You barely gave it a chance.

KeepCookingWithGas · 19/01/2020 22:11

Oh god. Can't they just stop it now?

Froq · 19/01/2020 22:12

BBC news (tv) reporting now on a speech given by PH at a charity event this evening. Apparently he expressed his disappointment at the plans going forward.

colouringinpro · 19/01/2020 22:12

Witchell on BBC 1 - Harry not happy with how it's worked out. Apparently at a Sentebale dinner this eve he spoke saying he's hoped to be able to continue his work with the military and I think his patronages, but that it was not possible.

Froq · 19/01/2020 22:12

did he have "no other choice" when asking Disney for voiceover work?
