I agree that two possible coronations within 20 years or something would be a waste of time but governments always find money for big Royal events and would happily pay out for all the pomp! They think it cheers us up ( and takes our eye off other things)
I doubt P Charles would let his son become King without him having a go first! His been waiting a long time.

MangoFeverDream · 19/01/2020 19:55

Not to do with Nicole Cliffe making it up as a story behind the reason Kate fell out with Rose Hanbury?

I think the timeline is wrong on this. William’s affair (or the turnip toffs story) came out long before Cliffe’s Twitter thread. What she did was suggest that the brothers were falling out because of his affair (and not because of Meghan).

However, we know now it was because of Meghan. But William’s affair is very likely true because of how the UK press reported on it. Very subtle so cannot be sued (while the foreign press has a field day)

I think Andrew appearing at church was a way of testing the water. The RF have form for those sticking in the public gullet making well-spaced cameo appearances. See Camilla's gradual introduction as Charles's squeeze.

Foe PP saying they think Charles's reign will be short, I agreee. I read recently he plans to occupy the throne for a short while then hand over to William. At the end of the day he's de facto sovereign now.

BackyardChickens · 19/01/2020 19:55

Thank you everyone :)

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 19:58

I think Charles will reign till his death just like his mother.

It allows William and his family just that little bit more freedom for as long as possible. Also it's the "done thing".

If anything the RF have taught us recently it is you are in or you are out. There is no halfway house.

Think it has been well documented that HM has a very soft spot for Harry and would have welcomed Meghan into the family. However the Queen is very much a traditionalist and whilst she has moved with the times, she is a stickler for Royal Protocol and wasn't allowing either of them to get away with stuff. Both Meghan and Kate were taken to task a couple of times for shoes, nail polish etc. Think Meghan got very frustrated at the stuffy Royal Protocol and got a bit bored with Royal Life. Which is fine, but don't marry a Royal then.
I actually like Princess Anne. She just gets on with stuff, recycles her clothes ( someone showed her recycling an outfit from 20 years ago), has no time for glamour and brought her kids up out of the spotlight.
I don't think she has much time for fripperies.GrinI actually like Zara Tindall too.
However , is Harry going to enjoy this new life, away from his family, with Meghan's friends, Meghan's family ( well her mum) etc. Only time will tell. Wonder if William and Harry have resolved their issues in any way.

The80sweregreat · 19/01/2020 20:01

I'm sure Archie will be fine actually.
Lots of parents emigrate and their children are ok : he will probably have a lovely life in Canada as it does look nice over there.
As long as his cared for and loved that's all that matters.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/01/2020 20:03

I am sorry for the queen - her and Philip won’t see him much (if at all) will they?

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 20:10

Archie is hardly going to have a quiet life having emigrated and raised by "normal" parents is he?

He was left with a nanny whilst his parents flew to the UK, No normal person does that or has that type of experience with their family. And it will be a norm for him to be left behind like many a list celebrity children.

The children of Hollywood grow up so centered and down to earth don't they. Said nobody ever.

MissEliza · 19/01/2020 20:12

People emigrate and maintain close relationships because they care. My dd is close to her cousins despite living in a different country because we made the effort.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/01/2020 20:13

Thomas Markle has given an interview for Channel 5, a clip of which is on the BBC news website. He doesn't seem quite himself. God knows what will happen if he takes the stand.

I sincerely hope H&M let the law suit go, or at least let the Palace intervene and negotiate a settlement. Surely nothing good can come out of pursuing it so publicly.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/01/2020 20:14

It doesn’t seem to be many a ‘Hollywood celeb’ child who ends up happy. So often the sad stories of substance abuse, hectic lifestyles and one drama after another. It would probably be better for him if they ditched the whole lot, bought an ordinary house and got ordinaryish jobs.

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 20:17

lord yes, yes it would, and to be honest they would be fully supported to do that. I don't think anybody would have a bad word to say if they bought a 6-7 million dollar home and lived off their money quietly in the suburbs.

My god I'd envy them to the ends of the earth 🤣

bohemia14 · 19/01/2020 20:18

The queen and Philip are in their 90s and Archie is their great grandchild. I think they probably know they will never, in any circumstances, spend much time with him. It's Charles, his grandad, who will possibly miss out.

One of the things that makes me most sad is Charles's loving gesture of welcoming Meghan into the family when he took her arm at the screen in St George's Chapel and led her down the aisle. And then the way he took her mum's arm as they went to sign the register. It's sad that it's all gone so wrong, so soon.

MissEliza · 19/01/2020 20:19

Oh my word their website still refers to the as 'their royal highnesses'

GlitchStitch · 19/01/2020 20:20

Not bringing Archie back with them so his grandparents could see him, given how ill Prince Philip has been and that they knew they intended to move away ASAP, was unkind I think. They hadn't seen him for a long time at that point, I'm not sure Philip ever will again.

Longwhiskers14 · 19/01/2020 20:21

MissEliza That's because they will remain HRHs until the spring, when their new lives kick in.

SeperatedSwans · 19/01/2020 20:25

I feel blessed in a way that my DS age 5, sees his great grandmother and grandmother daily. He has no father but has 3 generations of women in his life as all the males have passed away/no longer part of the family. The only male role model he has is my brother who he sees twice/three times a month as he live a 2 hour drive away with his family.

My grandmother (DS great grandmother) would be crushed if she didn't see him. I know the RF a rent a "normal" family, but still it must be a dissapointment.

CallmeAngelina · 19/01/2020 20:39

And then the way he took her mum's arm as they went to sign the register.
It's a minor point, and irrelevant to the discussion in hand (as I agree that Meghan and her family were warmly welcomed into the family), but actually if you look carefully at the footage, he didn't take her arm. He put his arm out as if to say, "after you," and guide her from behind. She misunderstood the gesture and took his hand.

kinsss · 19/01/2020 20:43

Charlie will become King when he is 80 odd I think, as Madge will live on like her late mother did.

So if Charlie survives 15-20 years as King, then William will be 55 or so, great age to become King, kids all grown up and all that.

Now that H and M have exited stage left, this is what I'm interested in!

Hope you are all doing fine.

CameronG · 19/01/2020 20:51

I just think it’s all so terribly sad. I loved Harry. Still do. He’ll be missed. I think he has struggled to find his place in the world and I’m not remotely convinced this is it.

I hope I am wrong.

theThreeofWeevils · 19/01/2020 20:56

Not bringing Archie back with them so his grandparents could see him, given how ill Prince Philip has been and that they knew they intended to move away ASAP, was unkind I think. They hadn't seen him for a long time at that point, I'm not sure Philip ever will again

I can't imagine the DoE (or indeed HMQ) gives that much of a stuff about that, really. Seen one great grandchild, you've seen 'em all.

GlitchStitch · 19/01/2020 20:58

I thought Charles was lovely at the wedding, it made me blub when he walked her down the aisle. He seems to have tried very hard to support them both, it must be upsetting for him to have been blindsided by all this- not that they wanted to leave, but the way they went about it. Leaving Archie overseas, announcing via Instagram, Meghan flying off straight away. I bet he is very hurt.

CallmeAngelina · 19/01/2020 21:00

Agree, the way they went about it was a big "fuck you."

kinsss · 19/01/2020 21:01

All this talk about Charlie not seeing his youngest grandchild is rubbish. He can visit them in Canada any time he wishes. If he decides not to, that's his issue IMO.

Anyway, the RF is toast when Madge goes. The kids coming up will not want to live in a gilded cage at all will they? The times they are a changing!
