Well we knew about Tiggy as she was photographed driving to the christening.

It was figured that with a ceremony that intimate, only godparents would be attending.

bohemia14 · 19/01/2020 11:28

I'm no fan of Andrew but he hasn't actually been charged or convicted of any crime. There are no doubt questions to answer of course. He's stepped down from his Royal position. I can't actually see that accompanying his elderly mother to church is a bad thing to do.

CleansUpDragonPoo · 19/01/2020 11:28

"I do wonder whether - well I am pretty sure really - that the rift between the brothers was caused by William knowing that in his generation, his family are pretty much on their own. "

Eh? What you on about, @Catrescue1971?

TwentyViginti · 19/01/2020 11:31

There are many threads on MN I scroll through and find I have zero interest in. I don't march in, say STFU, insult posters and try to disrail the thread. I just find something else of interest to me.

I really do not understand the posters trying to police what is written here as long as we post within MN guidelines.

TwentyViginti · 19/01/2020 11:34

I love black pudding! I only have eggs in atm for my brunch though and CBA to go out shopping Sad

I feel an omelette coming on......

SusanneLinder · 19/01/2020 11:34

@mateysmum, what you said sums it up perfectly.
I don't hate MM or certainly PH. In fact I was delighted when they got married ( and I am not even that keen on the RF). I thought Meghan was a breath of fresh air. But it appeared she really did not want to conform in anyway to the restrictions put on her on any kind, by being a member of the Royal Family. When Harry said "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets", was very telling. And she seemed happy enough to court the Press when it suited her, but as soon as anything negative was written about her, different matter. I also forgot she announced her pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding Hmm. MN usually goes into overdrive if anyone does that in RL.
I watched a YouTube video last night from someone who used to run her fansite. Very interesting opinions.

Personally, I hope the press completely ignore them now, as in completely. And whilst it is up to PC if he gives them money from the Duchy of Cornwall, it's hardly promoting the Independence they appear so desperate for. It's sad that PW and Harry are now not close, apparently because PW asked him if he was sure he was doing the right thing. Think the Queen has done well, by not giving them what they want. I suspect for Harry at least, this new lifestyle will be completely alien to him.
Catrescue1971 · 19/01/2020 11:34

I mean that in a decade or so when Charles' siblings are too old, William and their family won't have much support with royal engagements!

can somebody explain to me WHY so many people are falling over themselves pretending that Harry, the filthy rich scion of a 1000 year ruling dynasty born into the best connections no money can buy is supposedly the partner without agency in this marriage?
have you guys ever been married?
do you know how power and agency works?

Planeplane · 19/01/2020 11:40

bohemia14

I agree with you.

Iamdobby63 · 19/01/2020 11:41

SusanneLinder Personally, I hope the press completely ignore them now, as in completely.

I agree but they won’t want that... whatever they do they will need to media to promote it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/01/2020 11:42

They haven’t done anything wrong!!

Sickening - though I suppose it makes a change from "they've done nothing that every other RF member doesn't do"

I wonder what the Queen really thinks of a military engagement being jettisoned for the opportunity to - in their own words - "pitch" for themselves. I wonder, too, if the removal of such duties was actually at the request of the military themselves

Then again, considering HM's just done another photo op with Andrew at church, another "wonder" is whether there's any judgement within this family at all Hmm

Planeplane · 19/01/2020 11:45

do you know how power and agency works?

People can be vulnerable no matter how much money and how many connections they have.

Grasspigeons · 19/01/2020 11:45

Catrescue1971
I agree - i think we will see more of Beatrice and Eugenie.

TwentyViginti · 19/01/2020 11:50

It's unfortunate timing for Andrew to rock up at church but as HMQ is 93, I suppose she's making the most of still being active, and showing the world they are still a united family and she still has the support of her DC.

extrastrongnosugar · 19/01/2020 11:52

@planeplane
I'd think the person with the dysfunctional family selling her out at every turn, the way smaller bank account and the one trying to find her way in a very different culture would be pretty vulnerable herself.

any empathy for that one?

TheMustressMhor · 19/01/2020 11:53

I have to say that it is difficult to have empathy for people who are not themselves empathetic.

notmoresheep · 19/01/2020 11:56

@TwentyViginti because you’re not a scold.

@extrastrongnosugar that’s a very good question. Can’t speak for anyone else but even if you dislike the idea of our constitutional monarchy, HMQ is imbued with duty, service, the responsibility to the institution which has stood for 1000 years, she is all about country before self. Through her own dedication to a position she was not born to hold she is respected and stands as a symbol of unity across every part of society. PH was an important part of that, now he’s not. That’s his choice and as a 35 year old man that’s fine, who wants their adult DC living at home and relying on handouts? The way they went public is appalling and disrespectful, again, his choice but you can’t expect people to salute him for it.

MM OTOH, doesn’t give a crap about any of that. She may have cleverly tapped into the progressive notions of the Insta generation (who quickly ping likes at the illusion without giving too much thought to substance), but she doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, her behaviour is self-serving, attention seeking and shockingly frivolous and expensive (how much for a baby shower!). The cries of ‘whatever makes them happy’ might be fine for those who consider the constantly shifting, shallow wants of the individual above all else and even see it as some kind of moral high ground. These are the type of perpetually dissatisfied people who get what they want then realise they no longer want it or only want more so ultimately struggle to be happy. All evidence shows MM lacks the capacity to sustain long term relationships/friendships/family bonds but doesn’t appear to lack agency.

I’ll get back to the pithy one liners now.

extrastrongnosugar · 19/01/2020 11:56

@themustressmhor
ah, so you're saying "she deserves to be completely torn apart by a whole countries yellow press and the people that believe that shite the wicked wench?*"

*even though none of us know what's really going on in her life

people are really telling on themselves here

SunsetBoulevard3 · 19/01/2020 12:00

Despite marketing herself as a humanitarian.

MarySidney · 19/01/2020 12:01

He's choosing to walk away from all that. And the Queen, I think, is trying to make it clear, to him and everyone else, that he can't expect to continue to enjoy the perks and privileges of being royal if he's not prepared to put in the work.

And once you take away the royal glamour, what's left? What exactly is he going to be doing in their new independent life?

SingingLily · 19/01/2020 12:02

Extrastrongnosugar, I'm not sure many people believe or support everything said in the tabloids (I take it that's what was meant by "the yellow press") and certainly not TheMustressMhor who has consistently shown sympathy for what the RF are going through as a family.

As well as boasting about her fabulous homemade food, of course.

Which she refuses to share.

extrastrongnosugar · 19/01/2020 12:03

@marysidney a guy. that loves his wife. and has a cute kid.

I'd say that's a lot and he obvs thinks the same.
good luck to them.

bluebell34567 · 19/01/2020 12:03

they didnt get a bad deal, in fact a good one.
them giving back Frogmore expenses (if they really do) is to stop talks about future security expenses i think.
H will be Prince still but without HRH, like Diana.
