Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

GreenTulips I can link to that for the misguided amongst us...

I'd love someone to justify this...

Nobody can know what happens or what is said in private and that is why batshit folks shouldn't print or post words that haven't been said. Slander and libel are not reserved just for the press and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of lawsuits are in the offing besides the two that are already mentioned hopefully one that will destroy that arsehole Piers muck raker Morgan.
People will only take so much abuse before they fight back and nobody had the right to spout abuse they wouldn't like spewed back at them.

KenDodd · 17/01/2020 19:52

I am! Completely indifferent to M&H, no idea what they're like. The press and some of the public have treated them appallingly though.

TeaAddict235 · 17/01/2020 19:57

Did anyone see how Piers Morgan absolutely horrendously attacked the Professor and journalist Afua Hirsch over her defence of Meghan on good morning Britain? He was offensive! He asked lots of questions then attacked Afua personally concerning race. What a god forsaken person! There is no place deep enough in hell for him.

Afua should have seen that it would all be about race when she was asked her stance on their departure. Piers saw a young attractive out of his league black woman and got pissed that he hadn't a chance in neither heaven nor hell, so verbally assulted Afua. He defended the media's assessment of Meghan (comparing their baby to an animal ain't racist- no, just poorly thought out).

The interview has been titled as male white privilege at its finest on a few other forums.

Roussette · 17/01/2020 20:02

Tea I can't watch the whole thing, the clip I saw was enough.

Vile.

Trouble is... there's all these people cheering him on.

TeaAddict235 · 17/01/2020 20:09

"I'm amazed that MNHQ seem to be allowing the worst of the threads (with the behaviour on them) to stand." @Topseyt

MNHQ is very close to the Telegraph editors etc, who have been the staunch anti-Meghan opposers. That telegraph editor who was interviewed by Holly Willboughy and Paul (?), loathed to admit that Meghan had received ANY racism. Yes of course from your position and life long experience, blah, racism was buried loooong ago. She couldn't even say the word. Who was that American author who said that racism will be destroyed when white people say it and call it out. Bless him.

LittleSweet · 17/01/2020 20:13

I can't believe that people are more upset about this than Prince Andrew being close friends with a convicted paedophile and his attitude to us mere mortals. And the things he's allegedly done. And the royal family inviting JE to functions.
I think H and M are taking the piss accepting money from the Canadian government for their security. They are hugely rich they should pay for themselves.
I'm not surprised in the light of PA and the Queen obviously not thinking anything he did was wrong that they want to be as far away as possible. If you don't accept abuse from your own family, you're less likely to accept it from your in laws. I think as Armistead Maupin wrote, they are finding their 'logical family '.

WinnieTheW0rm · 17/01/2020 20:14

There are deletions on those threads, including all posts by some problematic posters.

I've noted

a) some contributors on both this thread and the others
b) posters here claiming they haven't read any of the others, but assume they are hateful

I don't think the other threads are remotely how they are described here. And indeed any/all of the posts here would not be out of place there

Frequency · 17/01/2020 20:14

@Sausagewrole summed up my feelings way up there on page one.

AuntieStella · 17/01/2020 20:16

"can't believe that people are more upset about this than Prince Andrew being close friends with"

Suggest you kick one of the several PA threads back into life then. There was extensive posting about it (hard to find, as lost in AIBU rather than in the topics but Advanced Search will probably turn them up).

EdithWeston · 17/01/2020 20:17

"MNHQ is very close to the Telegraph editors etc"

???

Isn't it The Guardian they are close to?

wonderstuff · 17/01/2020 20:24

I'd do the same in their position. They're multi millionaires some distance from the throne, why on earth should they put up with the nonsense the British press is spouting.

I'd love for us to become a socialist republic myself, but that's not going to happen so why shouldn't they just have whatever life they want? I think both of them have had a pretty crap time of it growing up, I wish them happiness.

RuffleCrow · 17/01/2020 20:24

I would!

I've felt glad for them, mainly, since i found out. It's obvious they were drawn to each other because of their highly dysfunctional backgrounds and having Archie has probably made them both realise they can't allow the toxic cycle to continue. Especially with Prince Andrew lurking around.

If i'm allowed to say this, the Royal family is majorly effed up, (and always has been!) and so are the Markles.

The past few years have seen a lot of us Stately Homes types struggling to disentangle ourselves from those who gave us messed up upbringings and who then try to inflict the same patterns on us as adults and on our dcs.

I think it's a real time of awakening for many people in their thirties and forties particularly, and personally i see Meghan and Harry as part of that trend.

This isn't about claiming the pair of them are somehow perfect and they're going to go off and live happily ever after. If anything the next few years may be a process of them both having counselling and working on their own flaws, as well as working through the past. At least, that's what i'd recommend.

Roussette · 17/01/2020 20:24

I'm not more upset about this than PA. I have been banging on, on every thread on here about him and what he's been up to. And the attempt to draw a line under it. And his cashing in on the RF and thinking he is impenetrable.

I am furious about both.

Reginabambina · 17/01/2020 20:26

I was happy but it seems to be becoming increasingly apparent that they’re not going to step out of the public sphere so I don’t see what the point was.

Grandmi · 17/01/2020 20:28

Agree with posters that William,Kate and Charles could have been more publicly supportive!! Their silence was deafening regardless of whatever has gone on behind the scenes . I hope Archie has a happy life whatever his parents end up doing.

BrexitBingoGenerator · 17/01/2020 20:28

@TSSDNCOP obviously this is true and thus I have contradicted myself and am therefore also batshit

I think the really fascinating thing about all of this is the strange goings on between all the press offices and the tabloid press. I bet there are all sorts of deals and negotiations that go on that we never know about.

Roussette · 17/01/2020 20:29

RuffleCrow

Yes yes yes. Totally agree. The RF are fucked up. As are the Markles.

Good on H&M - go for it, make a difference. I said this on another thread. I honestly honestly think my DCs will look back on this 'episode' as the time that the RF changed (I'm too old to see it in my lifetime)

AnnieOH1 · 17/01/2020 20:34

Having watched Suits for longer than they've known each other, I said in the very beginning "I wish he'd just go and become an actress's husband in the states" - I am really happy for them :)

Inkanta · 17/01/2020 20:35

Yes - my thoughts too! Step in the right direction I think.

BonnesVacances · 17/01/2020 20:37

What do people mean when they say H&M are continuing to earn money? I thought the whole point is they won't/can't be funded by taxpayers as they're not going to be full time royals, so don't earn the salary. Are they not allowed to have any income from elsewhere either? Confused

PortiaCastis · 17/01/2020 20:39

Well where is Harry's Father and what is he doing to support his son dil and grandson, hopefully they have a lot of support but something like that is not spoken about by the media as it's positive and not the usual muck raking and personal destruction of the Duchess

hamstersarse · 17/01/2020 20:40

I’m happy for them. When I think about it, Meghan was always way too independent to ever embrace ‘duty’

And I respect that in her

BonnesVacances · 17/01/2020 20:51

I agree Hamster. I told MIL (who was complaining about Meghan and poor Harry Hmm) that I thought Meghan was a good role model for young girls, and that standing up to bullying and untruthful reporting is vital these days. It certainly shouldn't be seen as being too sensitive and being full of oneself. Hmm

peridito · 17/01/2020 21:00

Apparently the whole raison d'etre behind H&M's actions is to "monetise their titles ".

There seems to be an assumption that H&M think they will become billionaires by giving speeches and selling merchandise .

I don't know why ppl think this is what is in H&M's minds ,but they do .
